If you want to hit your fairway woods and hybrids like this, that is such a good shot. Look at the height on that. Then I have three simple golf tips that are going to transform how you hit your fairwaywoods and hybrids off the deck. Here’s why you struggle hitting your fairway woods and hybrids so much. Number one is strike location. Amateurs struggle with hitting the ball off the bottom of the club too often. Now, why is that a problem? Fairwoods and hybrids have a thing called roll and bulge. So, the face isn’t flat like you see your irons. My fivewood here is 18° of loft, which it is in the middle of the club. It will be a higher loft up the top and lower down the bottom. And if you’re hitting it low on the face all the time, that ball’s not going to launch up in the air, get the carry distance you’re after, and you’re just going to struggle. So, number one, we need to get that strike higher on the face. And this video is going to tell you exactly how to do it. And the thing I see with fairway woods and hybrids is because it looks like a driver, people put their ball position way too far forward. We want to sneak that ball position back slightly behind our lead armpit. I like to see it sort of on the left hand side of your face. That’s where I want to see ball position. Now, depending on camera angle and the direction that I’m hitting, it might not look like that on the screen, but my ball position is on the left hand side of my face. That’s going to make sure that my low point is slightly in front of that golf ball. I’m going to start hitting down on the ball slightly. I’m going to now start hitting that ball higher on the face, getting it to launch higher. Oh, and hitting careeries like that. The next thing that I want you to think about when it comes to fairway woods is again something in your setup. People tend to think, right, I need to get this ball up in the air again because you’re probably hitting it low on the face. You think I need to hit that ball higher and people tend to start tilting back too much and trying to get that golf ball in the air. I need you to start thinking fairway woods and hybrids are much more like your irons than they are driver. Again, this is just going to help you with that angle of attack hitting slightly down instead of level to maybe slightly up. Set yourself up like you’re going to hit the golf ball. Get your stance width and things like that. And then just stand straight up. Grab your club in front of you and have it parallel to the floor. And then try and have your spine pretty straight up and address the ball that way. Try and feel a lot more like your irons. Honestly, you’ll start again hitting down on the golf ball a little bit. Now, I’m not saying we need to hit down loads on it. 1 2° something like that. It’s not massive. But these little subtle changes are going to have those subtle impacts on your delivery. Again, hitting slightly down, striking that ball higher on the face, launching it. And you’ll be able to do this off fairways, off T-shots, into par threes, fours, or fives. And the final thing that I want you to check mainly again in your setup, and this is a big one because again, this is playing a massive part on where you’re striking the ball on the face. I see far too many people again because they think they need to launch this high, they get their handle back too far. Again, you think about driver. You put that ball position forward and your hands start to move back and you start to add loft to hit that ball up in the air. If I start to move my handle back, what’s going to happen to this club? The back of it is going to hit the ground first. And also, if I start to move that back and the ball’s here, I’m going to hit that ball lower on the face again. So, to achieve that higher strike location, put those hands slightly forward. Get them up to more toward your lead leg. Again, more like your iron setup. Ball position on the left side of my face. I’m tilting not away from the target. I’m setting up more like my iron and I have my hand slightly forward. All three things are going to help that ball hit higher on the face. Launching your fairway wood. That is such a good shot. Look at the height on that. Fairway woods hybrids just became a lot easier. I hope these simple tips help you improve your fairway woods and hybrids. Let me know in the comments section down below if one, two, or all three help you transform hitting your fairway woods off the deck. I would love to know. Little reminder for you all as well. If you’re not subscribed to the channel, come on, do me a favor and hit that subscribe button. It helps me to continue make free content just like this to help you lower your scores. 1. if so many amateur suffer from roll & bulge on a FW wood off the deck, some company should make one without any. Nice niche club like the Ping Bunkr. I would buy one. Gotta love those eccentric clubs. Joking aside, I can actually hit my wood (5w is the only one I dare use off the turf) like my driver, because I can't hit up on my driver, LOL. For me it works best if I take a relative narrow stance, 50/50 weight and just feel like I rotate around to get a 0 degree AoA. Which usually then ends up minus one. My pitfall is arc depth, taking a larger divot than the AoA would suggest I'd take.

  2. Nice video – thanks 👏

I am a high handicapper and I much prefer my hybrids and fairway woods compared to my irons and it always surprises me that some people find them harder to hit than irons. I think it’s because they are more forgiving when I do have a shallow swing and sweep it a bit. I still get a decent, straight shot even if I do hit a bit low on the face, albeit a lower, shorter shot than I’d like; these are the poor shots that I’d duff/top with my irons. I’m aware that these comments probably highlight all sorts of problems with my swing! 😂

  3. I've been struggling with this very thing, this Friday past I tried moving the ball back in my stance a little and WOW what a difference. I was able to get up and over a tall tree and carry the corner back to the fairway. Awesome gain if I can just repeat it.
