This Is The MOST COMMON Driver Fault I See!
it is one of the best drills that you can do to change your attack angle and change your path in the region of 75 80 yards longer through the air so if we’re looking to change attack angle very often we have to change paths [Music] okay let’s start this video with me hitting a shot with trackman putting some daydream on the screen and i want to see if you can pull out what would be the most common fault what i say far too often which is holding so many golfers back just before i do that drop down below give this channel a subscribe if you’re not already comments box down there and give this a like if you did find some value in this video green keeper’s just gone that gives me the chance to hit this drive so let’s go ahead hit it and we’ll see we can have a look at the data and pull out what we want wasn’t a bad drive kind of down there so you can see you can see the data that’s on the screen at the moment um you know carrie was pretty short it was 187 yards launch angle at 60 degrees dynamic loft it’s just well 6.7 degrees ball speed of 170. so the one number and hopefully you’ve pulled this out and you’ve recognized it is the attack angle the attack angle is minus six degrees that’s not what we want that’s what i see a lot so what that really means is that when my club hit the golf ball it was traveling downwards towards the ground now if you just look at what that does to the loft it will generally in most cases it will take loft off the golf club not always but in most cases so that’s why we get dynamic loft which is how much loft is the club got just under seven degrees that’s really low that means the launch angle is down at just under six degrees and if you saw the ball flight it was very very low so whilst i can hit fairways that way with a ball speed of 170 miles an hour i shouldn’t really be carrying the ball 187 yards that’s way down now on the screen at the bottom you can see a little chart and i’ve just done that chart for a club head speed of 100 miles an hour and what you can see is that it gives an idea of what distance you can achieve based on different attack angles hitting down hitting level hitting up and you can see there how hitting up on the ball just gives you so much more distance and that distance is not through more swinging speed it’s just through how the club is delivered to the ball so if we’re looking to change this attack angle this minor six which is really really common and get it to a positive number it’s gonna be a couple of things we’re gonna look at setup and i’m gonna give you a couple of drills that you can do within your swing setup is key ball position relative to the middle of you that’s the zip the buttons your chin your nose middle of you not your feet i want that ball to be significantly forward of the middle of you and you can see how as i drop that club down the wider i have my stance the more behind the ball this club gets or the middle of me gets so that’s why with the drive we like this nice wide stance we also want that ball teed up relatively high so you can see here that i’ve got that ball nicely high in the peg around about half the ball above the top of the club is a great guide now when i stand with my feet this wide and my body is positioned behind the ball the ball tends to be opposite that lead heel so that’s a secondary reference point but it really is where it is relative to your upper body that’s key and that setup there should mean that i’m going to hit the ball much later in the goal seeing it doesn’t always work that way there’s lots of golfers who when viewed from the front view have these perfect driver setups and still hit down on the golf ball and that’s very often because from the top they’ll make this type of movement and the club still comes crashing down and they have that negative attack angle so here’s a little drill i want you to do you’re going to take a head cover you’re going to place it just outside the golf ball so what that does is it means that from set up my club is able to move away from the golf ball without touching the head cover and it should mean that i’m able to deliver the club back to the golf ball again without hitting the head cover the club path which is what this little exercise is addressing is really really closely related to the attack angle if i swing to the left of target really common to also hit down on the golf ball and if i swing to the right of the target really common to hit up on the golf ball so if we’re looking to change attack angle very often we have to change path this drill is going to help you do that when you’re hitting golf balls what i’d love you to do once you’ve got your setup correct head covers in place i’d love it to use your upper body rotate and start with the golf club on the ground around about some two feet behind the golf ball i’ve done this drill in previous videos i make no apologies about doing it again it is one of the best drills that you can do to change your attack angle and change your path so from here i’m going to start my golfing with the sole objective being to miss the head cover and really sense that my club is at its lowest point around about this area here where i started with the golf club now i’m not sure if trackman will pick these numbers up because the head cover is a little in the way but we should be able to see my attack angle change significantly based on this setup and this little exercise so completely different ball flight i’m not sure if they picked that up and we did get some numbers and you can see there that the attack angle well almost completely changed that’s 5.8 degrees up so 60 degrees up and the carry went up to 260 yards so way more carry and the ball actually came with the face slower so that ball came off the face slower than the first shot and went in the region of 6 75 80 yards longer through the air incredible changes in distance and we can see that that’s not through speed it wasn’t because i swung faster i hit it harder i just optimized my delivery so getting your attack angle positive with the driver will give you more distance if you currently hit down on the golf ball it’s something that i would encourage everybody to test to check and work towards because it is free distance you just need to make sure the setup is correct try that little exercise shift the path with that setup and you should start to up on the ball gain more distance right i hope that helps usual stuff is down below comments box like button all that kind of stuff i would love to see you back here again soon for a future video thanks for watching
Nobody wants to give up distance from the tee but this common driver fault is costing golfers valuable distance every time they tee it up.
In this video I discuss the most common driver fault that I see and show how it could be costing you over 70yds in distance from the tee, the good news however, it’s easy to fix.
So if you feel that you struggle with this common driver fault then watch as I run through some simple steps to get you hitting the driver longer and more consistently that ever

ps just for fun, note that before YT plays videos, it often plays ads. Before this play YT played a video of TopSpeedGolf…I used to watch his YT videos religiously but I guess that he's switched-up his delivery.
pps this video is 7 minutes long. Really doesn't take that long to explain how to hit a driver "properly".
Great explanation! Thank you!
Very clear even with your British accent 🙂
I cant stop hooking the ball 😂🤣
Ive been looking for a straightforward video like this for a minute, everyone says to make sure you're hitting up on the ball, nobody says how to achieve that and where you might be going wrong
Yak yak..does he ever stop
Your driver looks well over regulated length, if you get caught with an illegal club at my country club you get fined £500
am I the only one worried about the guy just trying to mow?
How did you get all of that Data with your phone?
But it also look like you pushed it drastically, right?
Stop splitting hairs and hit the fvcking ball.
This helped me so much thank you
Anymore bullshit tips you want to shill?
my dynamic loft is too high because I'm scooping. what can I do?
Thank you
Nelly Korda would like a word. She hits down with her driver.
🎯
Thank you!
I'm driving the ball 30-40 yards longer at age 60 than I did when I was 30 despite losing about 10mph in club head speed. I can't give this vid all the credit as I've watched a lot of driver vids but it certainly helped. Proper setup. Proper tee height. Proper ball position. Proper swing plane. I spent decades doing all of them just slightly wrong and happy with the result as long the ball found the short grass. But as Chris said, doing it right is free distance and who doesn't like free?
Why the F are you hitting on a fairway while a greenskeeper is mowing? As a retired superintendent, I can say you are the kind of pro we quietly hate working for.
So I hit the ball really high goes around 230. Can you move the ball towards the middle of the stance just to fix this
That simple path technique changed everything for me 🤯
I experience this exactly at the golf store the other day when I got fitted for a new driver. I was registering -5 to -7 and with a high spin rate. Changed my attack angle and got it to the positive side and all the numbers also came into alignment. I then played my regular round Sunday and I was amazed at my straight and long ball flight. No slices!
I seen your head cover a squirrel was packing it with his nut's .
I seem to have the opposite problem. The last range session I went to I was averaging about 148 ball speed but only hitting the ball approximately 230yards. I noticed my launch angle was about 19*. Am I losing distance because of too much loft? Thanks.

I’ll try it but no video has helped yet 😂 hard to believe anyone could be that dumb.
Excellent video as always.
If even 10% of this guys tips worked we'd all be driving the ball 500 yards
Moe Norman started every swing with the clubhead 10 inches behind the ball
Great video Chris! However I just went to the simulator and I cannot get my attack angle greater than about 2deg. I teed the ball higher, moved it forward in my stance and no change. Any idea what the heck is going on?? I am not getting the distance I would like.
Les GOOOOO
What app are you using on your phone for the swing data?
Such a valuable breakdown!
Any reason why we don't start the club two feet right of ball in real play? Why drill only?
Very informative Chris, Thanks
I see you using that broken tee for the thumbnail lol. I do the same thing. Use them until they disintegrate
Show more talk less 😢
Many thanks will be trying this.
170BS and only 186yds 😂 come on man
Good instruction, no bull, just what you need to do, thanks. (Not like effing Americans, who shout, gabble on incessantly and try and sell you stuff!!! I hate them sooooooo much!)

great video; thank you
