Professional golf, in particular men’s professional golf, needs a real offseason.

They need to reduce their expenses.

It sounds like they’re responding properly to diminish any appeal to LIV. Give the stars an off season. Give the stars more money. The tour should be for the best of the best. They do themselves a disservice by having off weeks for the dudes outside of the top 100 to catch lightning in a bottle. A full season minor league is a better place to groom the next stars. They should keep 75 a year and turn over the bottom 25 with q school and the top players on the Korn Ferry tour.
The issue becomes when can they take time off and how long does the real season run for? Because 20-25 weeks straight of top 100 fields at exciting courses would be phenomenal.

I sorta like the Waste Management Sunday as a pregame to the Super Bowl
Start with pebble in the dead week between conference championships and the SB, and run WM but be sure to finish early Sunday imo

I wonder if the Sentry will ever be contested again.

I think Rolapp is on the right track.

>PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem made it a 20-year goal to surpass the NFL in number of fans. Now, 25 years later, they seem to be ready to do the exact opposite.
Man, looking at it now, this idea is profoundly stupid. But I guess in 2000 when you had Tiger Woods exploding in popularity and the NFL not *quite* the Goliath that it is today, it seemed doable? I dunno that’s quite a goal.
Starting later makes sense just to give golf a break. I kinda liked watching golf in January when I couldn’t play much. I didn’t think signature events were an awful model, it’s a player-run organization and that idea is very pro-player. But the signature events were very strangely spread out throughout the season. 3 from early February to early March, but *zero* after the travelers in late June until the playoffs, what the fuck?
I hope they don’t try to make drastic moves to make pro golf like the big 4 major sports. The DJ Pie maxim is very true; what if golf is just a niche sport?

Sorry but no west coast swing in Jan/feb sounds dumb. I like those courses and primetime golf is always a plus to me

I like it. There should be an off-season. Give the players who’s kids are in school a chance to be around them more.
Starting after the Superbowl could have the desired effect interest wise.
Sounds like progress to me.

There’s basically two takes on how the PGA Tour should operate.
The first is that weak events dilute the brand and make the tour hard to follow. We need less tournaments, less players with tour cards, and tournaments should feel bigger and more important (like the Players) and all the top players should be there, like all the top LIV players are at every LIV event.
The other take is that actually, a tourney every week with a handful of decent names is enough to get a bunch of people to turn on the TV for casual viewing, and you make more money selling ads that way 48 weeks a year than you will by creating a “better” product that runs only 20 weeks a year. You also give way more guys opportunities to play and make money. And so what, if you only have 2 of the top 10 guys in a field, well as long as one of them is on the leaderboard on Sunday that’s enough to get people to tune in anyway.
Personally, I prefer option 1. But it wouldn’t surprise me at all if option 2 is more financially profitable (which is why the PGA Tour is how it is).

2025 was a great spectator year for golf. Even without the Ryder cup. Did the broadcast data not support that?

The PGA tour has lost all my interest. Shit is super lame. Majors are cool, rest is all sponsored garbage

You have to be MUCH MUCH BETTER on broadcasts and highlights . We dont want to watch the same 7 players regardless of their position. Show us the god damn golf . We will decide who we like

It’s an opportunity for the LPGA to also shake up their schedule their biggest tournaments on the weeks the PGA is not competing. I like this aspect.
