Hello, Adam Basiljette here, founder of Scratcholf Academy. Today, unlock your Tour Pro golf swing secret. Is there such a thing? Well, I’ll show you what I think the key is. Are you likely to be able to swing with the speed and precision of a tour pro or me for that matter? Not likely. However, could you swing with a lot more simplicity and flow? Most probably. Let’s tackle it. Okay. What’s this key secret that I think most people don’t have? They don’t have much awareness. Now certainly that would manifest itself in they’re not very educated about their own swing or their shot patterns. But more specifically to this discussion during the golf swing they are not very aware of what’s going on. And the reason is they’re thinking so much is active in their mind. So much going on then immediately prejudiced one way or the other by the type of outcome they get. They don’t feel things in their golf swing. Thinking about your swing and feeling what’s actually happening are two very different things. We’re going to attack this more at the very end of the video, but let me show you four areas. for instance, that if you were less thinking and more aware would probably start to get better in your golf swing. If you’ve got a lot going on in your head, you will never tap into the genius of the subconscious mind and real fluid motion. Plus, if you’ve got a lot going on in your head and you’re not aware of what’s actually happening, you just don’t know where your swing is in space, that’s another handicap. So, number one on my little list of four here, how about the takeaway? People struggle for years getting the club out of position. Most people too flat. They think about a good takeaway. They do drills. Doesn’t necessarily show up. I am willing to bet that for the great majority of people, let’s put the the impact bag there. If that was a nail I was tapping into the wall with just a two-foot back swing, I would be willing to bet that most people would have a pretty target nail oriented efficient movement pattern right there. I doubt they do this or that. So, a lot of these things, if you’ll just get out of your own way and becoming a little more aware in your swing. It’s going to develop this as the video goes and at the end we’ll talk about how to become aware. You would solve these problems, they wouldn’t be aggravating you for years. You just got to quiet everything down and start understanding, start letting the genius of the mind show up a little bit in these different areas. One of the most common areas we see everyday golfers underachieve is scooping the ball. They fail to get the shaft lean they need. A lot of people feel like this is something incredibly elusive and mysterious. It isn’t. If I gave you a broom, said, “We’ve got to brush the floor here.” Most people could bend the bristles within two tries and make a little bit of a swing like that. So, what happens? They get over the golf ball, they’re thinking about lag or whatever you want to call it. They whack this thing, but they really have no feel. If you can do that with a broom and if you have the discipline, we’re going to talk about awareness again, how to practice it towards the end of the video, just coming up and just divorce yourself from everything else and just experience is that like the broom. Do I have the handle going forward? Do it on a scale you could without thinking, just experiencing it, it would change it a lot. The pivot is another thing critical in golf swing. The pivot most people could stand there and turn their body. Okay, we’re on a tilt. So now it’s on an axis like this. But that’s not that hard to do. Another thing with the human mind, when it’s relaxed, you look at someone turn in a room, you don’t see excessive leg movement or none. You see just the right amount to allow them to coil and still keep some stability. So tap into what’s natural. Get a club in your hand. Divorce yourself from every other thought, from solid contact, and just rehearse that feeling in the pivot till you’re getting into what’s natural. Let’s look at one more thing. Okay, momentarily in our final segment, we’ll talk about how to practice this awareness. But let’s look at number four maybe on my little list here. Let’s say the left edge of the bunker is the target, give or take. It’s an epidemic that players get steep coming over the top, cut across the ball. Many is the time I got this from Fred Shoemaker. I’ve given people an alignment rod and say, “Hey, can you toss the rod somewhat towards the target like so?” No golfer obviously. I have never, nor has Fred, who’s done it a lot more than me, seen anyone accidentally toss the club into the ground. When you get the ball out of there, their mind quiets and all they’ve got is this simple motion. With no coaching, they can very easily more or less make the club go that way. So, how about quiet your mind here and just feel like, can I experience where the club goes with no thought of the ball and aware is it going to the target or is it that? Now, just before we move on to talking about actually how to practice getting more aware, a couple more thoughts. Expert coaching, good coaching makes a big difference when you’ve got someone that you trust that knows what they’re talking about, that’s filming you and explaining to you, which they should be able to do if they’re a good coach. Hey, the reason this and this happens is because you did this. In other words, giving you simple patterns so that you know, here’s my pattern. Any great golfer I’ve been around can tell you in two sentences what they tend to do. And my tendency, get too far behind the ball, slide my legs, start to hit it out to the right, or roll the face too much. That’s that’s what I tend to do. You need to be aware of your pattern. A good coach can help you with that and they can help you realize how that pattern attaches to the types of shots you hit, type of contact you get. Okay, let’s talk about practicing awareness. All right, here’s a test for you to see whether you are very aware. I get to do this in golf swing in golf lessons all the time with people. Let’s say golfers here, they’re way over the top. Their hands are here. We’re trying to get it there. We rehearse it a bit and we’ll pop one on film. I say, “How did it feel?” You know, “How do you think it is?” I think I think was that’s what you want, right? The hands are over here somewhere. In other words, it’s about this different to what they were thinking of doing and they’re surprised when they see the film. When you do that, when what you actually do and what you thought you did are very different, you’re not very aware. You’ve got thoughts in your head, but you’re not aware. Close your eyes. Can you tell if your arms here or here? Of course you can. So, you should be able to tell whatever the context you’re working on where that thing is. Now, here’s the key. It’s a little bit elusive because the mind gets attached to contact and thinking about doing the right thing. So, you have to train your mind to be quieter. I have to do this regularly when I hit balls. The mind gets excited. Now, here’s how I would train it. Right now, it’s early in the morning. Beautiful day, Mediterranean, Naples, Florida. Here I can feel sunlight with the warmth of it on the side of my face. I can feel some breeze here. In other words, if I empty my mind and just become aware, I can feel breeze all over my face. I could feel my glove against the club. But if I’m thinking about a a lot of things, even though the breeze is still blowing, the sun hasn’t changed, I don’t feel it. So, here’s what you’ve got to do to start to train yourself. Hit some shots. Pick out something physical real. Could be the feeling of your shirt on your neck. In this case, let’s say the sun. Can I hit a shot and throughout it have nothing but the quiet awareness of how the sun feels on my face? You’d be surprised how difficult that is. It’s not difficult how elusive that is. Many times you’ll get to here and then your mind will say, “Okay, that’s enough of feeling that. Let me think about hitting the ball.” And once you’ve trained yourself to feel something physical and real, breeze, sun, shirt, you name it. And just keep your mind there, you are starting to be able to empty your mind properly. Now, let me give you a couple more keys. What we want to do is get good at that first, then start to transfer that to something in your golf swing. Okay? Now, believe me, if I’m just feeling the sun on my face, I’m still aware of the club swinging. I hear the ball get hit. There’s some awareness of where it was. It’s not like there’s nothing else going on, but I’m able to keep my attention in an area. So, now let’s say, where is my weight in the back swing? Am I fairly centered? Am I way behind the ball? Whatever you’re working on, don’t try to do it correctly. We’re assuming you’ve rehearsed this now. This is something you’re not unfamiliar with. Just, you know what you’re trying to do. You don’t need to badger yourself. Just quiet your mind and say, “What did I actually experience there? Was I where I thought I was?” It’s magic. Things start to open up for you. The natural coordination of the body and mind start to show up. Fo, I used to occasionally assist David with golf lessons with him. I helping him with his swing, but assisting David. He was great at this. He’d hit a shot, close his eyes. That felt like this to me. I mean, a specific area. If you can quiet your mind, practice quieting it. We just talked about that. Then start to apply it to an area of the swing. Is the club here or here at the beginning of the back swing? And begin to what you feel is closer to what’s actually happening. You’ll start to tap into the genius of the human mind and start to solve problems. It takes a bit of perseverance and practice. Hope this helps you.
