The Dragons today held the club’s annual Robert Stone Memorial Golf Day at Beverley Park Golf Club.
Players, coaches, and staff were on hand alongside the club’s corporate partners for a round a golf, food and drink, and mingling.
Stone played 170 first grade games for the St George Dragons from 1975 to 1985 and was a key member of the club’s 1977 and 1979 premiership-winning sides.
Following his playing career, he became an executive officer at the Dragons and was a driving factor in the club’s return to Jubilee Oval.
He was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July of 2005 and sadly passed away the following 18 months later aged just 49.
Now in its 19th year, the day has become one of the most important events on the club’s calendar and offers all involved an opportunity to share a laugh, play some golf, and remember the late Robert Stone.
Shane Flanagan, Michael Ennis, Clint Gutherson and Daniel Atkinson joined emcee Tim Robinson on stage to talk about the squad, how preseason is shaping up, and the team’s trip to Las Vegas.
A $30,000 cheque was also presented on behalf of St George Leagues Club and St George District to St George Hospital through Hands of Hope.
Hands of Hope strives to be that hand of support to the many who are faced with difficult times in their life physically or mentally.
Hands of Hope is a community-based group with a genuine commitment to supporting others in need through donations to hospitals and rehabilitation centres.
