Was super stoked to get this golf match in versus Richard Lee one of New Zealand’s most successful tour players. Although the weather didn’t play ball we managed to get a full match in at the beautiful Muriwai Golf links.
Hope you enjoy watching a tour professional talk through his shots & share some awesome stories/knowledge on his experiences playing professional golf over the past few decades.

C guys, my name is Isaac and today I’m challenging Richard Lee, one of New Zealand’s best golfers, to a golf match out at Middle Golf Links. Shout out to them. If you want to come check out this beautiful course, I’d definitely recommend it. Uh, yeah. What do you got to say, Richard? Uh, more like an ex pro, mate. Um, I don’t play a whole lot anymore, but uh, it’s going to be tough conditions today in this this wind. Uh, great course to do it on. They’ve made some fantastic changes here, so actually looking forward to it. Yeah. Uh, this guy’s he’s all cap. He he shot five under the other day at Namotu uh golf and down in Tanaki. Won another little proam. So yeah, it’s always good to have a win. Yeah. Okay. Well, we’re going to do nine holes. Uh if the weather stays all right and it doesn’t rain, then we’re going to try to do 18. But let’s get to it. First first hole, eh? All right, let’s do it. The best fair win. And I’ve skyed it. It should be shot of the day. It should be It should be perfect, though. Oh man. Oh, you’re in the flat spot. Heap of speed, mate. Thank you. A stayed there. That should be good. Yeah. Middle of the green. Near the back of the green, I think. Nice. Nice. Hard shot here over the bunker. I’ve got 134 to the pin. Just going to go something to the middle of the green. Um, yeah. Just get something up there. Give myself a putt. Try draw something in as well. Should be good. [Music] Yeah. Yeah. That’s all right. We’ll take that. Grab some sand. All right. So, probably go a 25 footer downhill. Little bit of water on the greens from the rain. It is. It is spinning. Greens are nice and firm. It’s not going to be that quick. I hope go. Pretty good speed. That’s weak. Don’t know if I can give him that one. These are these are a lot slower than they look. I take everything I can get. Hey, this is a little like double breaker, but I’m play it pretty straight. That’s good. Yeah. Thank you. All right, mate. You want it out for the short ones? Yeah. the egg marage on it. But little nasty 5footer here. Yeah, he missed it. Oh, one down. Hey, one up. Video’s over. I won. No, no, no, not at all. I’m I need all those early as I can get. One of the coolest tea boxes here in New Zealand and I show them what’s behind. Okay, par five here. Straight back into the wind. Teed it low. Just going to try to play a little fade down the left off that bunker on the left. Oh, that’s out. Wait. Oh, man. H might be okay. Holy jeez. That was like a soft bounce. So tight. So wind off the left. Just keeping it low. I’m going to try and play a draw into this wind. Yep. Draw down the fairway. No power. Old man now. Yeah, it’s all good. Three shot hole today. Anyway, couldn’t find my ball in this stuff. So, we’re just taking a drop and we’re going to play our fourth fourth shot. So, two shot penalty. That should be good up there in the fairway. Try to get on, make a six. Put a little bit of pressure on, but not really for this man. So Isaac’s in the trees. He lost his ball on the tree. So he’s he’s four down there. Down for four on down the fairway. Just going to rip a little 3wood up there. Have to push. That’ll be fine. That’ll be fine though. Yeah. Nice. Hit like a little low eight iron draw. Um because everything if I hit it right of the pin, it should kick left anyway. Oh, good shot. Yeah, it should be all right. We’ll have a putt for bogey. So, third into the second. I got 97 m into a strong breeze on an uphill slope, which is going to help it get up into the wind. So, I’m just going to put a nine iron back in my stance. And it’s really like a little punchy chip. Just trying to make a five, which will um should win the hole. Yeah, great shot. It’s going right at it. Go. Yeah. Oh jeez. I just got on the green. I think that should be just below the hole. Great shot. Yeah. 25 30 footer uphill. Green’s a little bit wet from the from the rain. This is going to be slow into the breeze as well. Make sure I give it a good whack. Right to left. Hold up. Hold up. Oh yeah, that’s good. Back to all square. So, I’ve got my trusty old fivewood. I’ve um never really liked hybrids very much. Uh obviously, it’s into the wind. It’s going to balloon. So, what I do, we got 186. I’m going to I grip down to the shaft almost. And I hit hit down on it. This will take it up very low. Hopefully, I’m going to hit a decent shot. Little draw. Bit little bit left of the hole. It’s came out like a bullet. Did it get there? I can’t see. Yeah, it’s pin high left. Good shot. Cool. Jeez. Good shot there. I got this new club. I’m going to give it a whack on this hole. Little three hybrid. Try and play a little draw against the wind. Just right. Just about get a good bounce. Come down the hill. That’s a good shot just on the right edge to the green fin high. Two really good shots into this hole today. Yeah. Hey, 186 into the breeze. Yeah, you got me though. You got me. Oh, I’ll just have to knock my putt in first. E got uphill right to left. Playing like a foot of break. Yeah, give it a run. This guy was just telling me he made four twos here at a Charles Tour event the middle way open. So, I think this is going to have to go in. Stay up. I gave it a run. Oh, I’ll have to see that one, mate. Yeah. Yeah, fair enough. So, about 15 ft up the hill. Winds off the left. It’s a left to right putt, so I’ll allow a little bit more for the breeze. Should break, I don’t know, half a cup or a cup. Break. Break. Oh, that’s good. Now I’m like, “Oh, why did I slam? I’ll make this one.” Tiny left to right here. Playing it left edge. Nice confident stroke. Yeah, good putt. It’s a half match remains all square through three. Stroke hole one next, but it’s downwind, so hopefully a little bit easier on the fourth. Uh, all square after three. There’s howling down wind, which is very unusual for this hole. Just going to let it the wind help me. It should just help off the right. So, no real danger here. Yeah. Little draw down the fairway. But I better use that tea. Um my my one snapped. Thank you. Copy and try copy and paste what Richard’s just done. I’m going to go same sort of shot shape. Try play a little draw or a little fade. Just bounce left. Well, bounce left. That’s all good. Safe side of the holes. OB all up the left. So, it’s all right. I’m just here on the right. You’re way down there. Jeep as creepers, man. This is going to be Is it 170 five? Yeah, I got 177. Yeah. And uh one always comes up a little bit more than a bushel. 1707 seven probably two quads of wind. Probably going to hit a seven iron. Bit of a baby drive there. We’re a good old 40 50 m short of Richard, but you know it’s a layup. Uh going to hit a little fade here with a 7 iron from 177. Just land over that bunker and let it just trickle up to the pins. It’s pretty firm. Oh man, that’s in the bunker. That was a terrible shot. I don’t know why I just half swung that. Oh well, we’ll get up and down. 135 straight down breeze. Pins right at the back. I’m just trying to land this a third onto the green. Just let it release out. It’s always hard to judge the uh the roll when it’s downwind like this and what how the ball’s going to react. It’s a smooth pitching wedge. Just right the hole. Yeah, good shot. Massive bounce. That should be okay. We really got to get this up and down. Just going to try to land it like halfway there. Oh, I pick up. Oh my gosh. Just took all ball. Oh well, that’s one down. I’ll um go try to find my ball. So, unfortunately, Isaac’s bladed his bunker shot. Those bunker shots, you know, 40 to 60 m is the hardest shot in golf. Um so, fortunately, he’s out of the hole. I’ll just try and mosey this down and try and get a try and get a birdie. Should be a little bit right to left, but the wind will hold it up a little bit. Go. Oh, it’s weak. Oh, one up after four. Back then, we only learned golf from um a golf book your coach or it was in like the the golf magazine. Now, there’s so much information with the internet. Yeah. But he just said, “Open up an eight iron or a 9 iron.” Yeah. And just cut across it almost fat it out or run. Yeah. You know, you might not up and down it that much, but it’s a safer shot. It’s going to take that blade out of the out of the equation. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t practice that shot ever because there’s just nothing to there’s nothing like that at Whites. When I was playing on tour, if I had a shot, my 3-wood was like a maximum say off the deck 225 carry. Yeah. And if I had bunkers near the green going to a par five that were on that border line for me carrying, I would lay up into my wedge system where I could I could up and down it cuz I just didn’t want a long bunker shot. Yeah, that’s smart. Okay, so we’re on the fifth. The wind is very sheltered here, but the wind’s hailing off the right. I’m gonna take it probably at that right hand trap and try and catch. He’s a bit of a sle speed slot. Um, and that takes the ball quite a long way down. I teed it up a bit higher cuz the wind’s going to going to get it. Get a bit higher. Get a bit of a draw going. That is perfect. Yes, that is hyped. Great drive. Thanks. Yeah, nice big. Should be um you should get a lot of run there. Good news is I said that it was going to be match play. So only one down. So we’re still very much in this similar shot to what uh Richard just played. I’ll be fine. It’s just way right. Drop kicky. It’s drawing back. It’ll be at the mercy of the lie on the hill over there. Hey, we’ve come down here at the right. It’s not too bad. At least it’s sitting up. You can uh if you hit it out here at middle way, you get in these sandy lies and it’s horrible. Um 125 downwind and just go this time a full swing. Nice smooth full gap wedge. Try to get up in the wind. Just land on the front of the green and let it release up. Looks pretty good. That’s long. Not bad. It’s on the back edge of the green. Pretty good from that lie. We’ll take it on the green. Oh, yours all the way. Great shot. Yeah, if you catch that right side fairway. Yeah, like a speed slot goes down there. It sounds stupid. I’m actually a little bit too close to the green to really try and get it close. Uh 73 to the pin. I’m going to be trying to carry it just on the green, which is 59 to the front. So, we’re going to try and carry it 60ish. You know, I want to leave myself an uphill putt. So, I’ve got to be just right the hole. But the it does roll right uh right left to right for the second. So I’m just trying to throw a shot that’s going to land about 60 meters. It’s not going to spin that much because of the uh bit of water on the on the ball. Carry. Yeah. Didn’t get there. It’s going to It’s released a bit but Oh, that’s amazing how much that’s released. Wow. That’s lucky. Good shot. No, it’s nice to get luck in golf because you get um beaten up a lot by the game. Good shot. Take take the luck when you can. Big swinging putt here. Just going to swing all the way around to the left. Good putt. That’s good, mate. Pick it up. Well, at least we’re giving ourselves a chance to half this hole with these left to right. Just trying to slide it in at a good speed. So, I’m just having a stroke to try and feel the speed. I look at the hole and I imagine where the ball would go in from and now it’s going to come out of the hole and I watch a line back to the ball. Adjust my putter face to that and then go and boom. There we go. All right. Two downs. Nice putt. Great. Cheers. That’s a hard putt that one, guys. Yeah, I told you he was one of the best in New Zealand. Not X, not X, just currently still is. So now on the sixth, I’m a couple up on Isaac. I was playing at Charles event one year with Ryan Fox and every hole I was lasering how far he had me by. And it was every hole was around 29 to 32 m off the drives. And then when you got a big hitter like Ryan, they just um they kill the dog legs. They can just take it so far over the dog leg. and he had me by something like 80 meters on this hole. I hit driver five when he hit so much driver radon. It was just an incredible T-shot he hit. So anyway, we’re off the wind’s off the left. I’m just going to go at that bunker and hopefully the wind will drifted off. Drawing it towards the bunker actually. Probably be shorter. It might not get there today with this breeze. Yeah, good shot. I had a straight one at that bunker. Let the wind drip feed it. Oh, shoot. I keep opening my face. That’ll be fine. But so far, right, just Yeah, makes the hole a bit longer from there. Yeah, it’s all good. Kind of a tricky lie here. We’re going to hit the hybrid just with the uphill line. I should draw try draw it back into the fairway. Oh, that did not go left. Should be fine. That might be on the fourth. Yeah, it might be on the fourth. That’s right. Don’t hit it out here. That’s what I shouldn’t have done. And my drive is uh 30 m short of the bunker. Just shows you how strong the breeze is. We got a really smelly lie. Got this long like fescue grass in front of my ball. So, instead of playing a 3-wood, I’m going to play a fivewood and just uh just try and get it down there. I can even if I even ground this club, I might move the ball. So, I have to put the club back behind the ball. Wind off the left. I fatted it out. Well done, Rich. Jeez, it makes us so long. We’re both probably going to have long clubs in. Not a bad shot out there. We’ve got 176 to the pin into the breeze. I’m going to go the hybrid again just like on the path three. Just try hit something little draw towards the pin. Should be good. That was a great shot. Right at it. Is it long? Oh, great shot. I’ve hit it long. Was such a nice shot though. All good. 154. 154. 123 over the trap. Was that like a little five iron? Yeah. I’ll play play a low one. Yeah. So, the first thing you got to do is you make sure you take this front bunker out of play, but with the breeze, uh, it’s 154. I hit a five on normally around 170 carry. I’ll put this back in my stance, hit down, and really try and punch this. So, I’m going to put this like really low. And I know if I miss the green right, it’s a tough chip just from years of playing here. So, if anything, I want to be fracting left to the hole. Easier chip from the left if I do miss the green. So, I’m gripping down it slightly. That’s a little draw. It’s probably going to be up by you, Isaac. Yeah. It’s short though. No, probably pen. Yeah, it landed into that ups slope. Kind of killed it. Yeah, that’s Po. That’s good. I’ll get the sand for that one. Thanks, mate. Yeah, I’m actually loving that little hybrid club. Yeah, I’ve never liked them. I find for me they go either go too high and too short or they go too low and too far and too strong. Yeah. And I tend to hook them. Yeah. So, I stay away from them. I um I’ve never had one. I only I’ve only literally hit that probably like five times. What is it? Nike. Uh, it’s a tailor made one. But yeah, I um I just bought it in cuz I didn’t I’ve only ever played 13 clubs in my bag. I’ve never played with 14 really. Yeah. I don’t know. I just never I never bought one. Put an extra wedge in, mate. That’s where your scoring is. Well, I’ve got four wedges. Oh, yeah. Already. So, what are you missing? I was missing a club between four iron and 3wood. So, yeah. Okay. So, now you got 14. So, now I’ve got 14. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Dang. They landed like right next to the hole. I just Would you putt that downwind? I feel like I would probably putt it or I would hit a little pitching wedge and I would just hit a pitching wedge into like here and then just one bounce, two bounce, then release. Yeah, I’ it’s a tough shot. I’d either I’d probably just put it cuz I just know I just have to get it to that hill and then it should I’d either putt it or I chip like a five on and get it there. Once you start hitting into the hill, it’s going to take it might skid off it and it might just take all the power off the shot. Yeah, I think putting is probably a good I’ll I’ll put it. Pretty good speed. Yeah, pretty good, mate. Pretty good shot from there. Good weight. Good 12, 15 m short uphill, left to right putt with the breeze. Just trying to get near the hole. If it goes in, it’s an absolute bonus. But we’re just trying to make five here now. Very windy. All right, look at the hole back. There’s the brake. Aim my face to there and go. We’re down. We’re down. We done. That’s good. Thank you. Oh, no. I’ll give you that, mate. You give it to me. Yeah. Really match. What a gentleman. He doesn’t Hey, you going to hold that? He He wants me. I’ll hold it. I’ll hold it. I’ll I need to practice. That’s good. That’s good on the side. It’s good on the match. Okay, bar. I’m going to hold it. Never in doubt. Yeah. Oh, at least we got a half. Bit of a messy hole, but I think five is decent on that hole into this kind of wind. We’re on the seventh now. Wind’s off the right and helping this T-shot. But you do have a tendency to one hit it further right and take off more of the corner, but just got to take it over the left edge of the trees on the right there and just uh the wind should just grab it. Yeah, it’s right where you want shot. Should be perfect, right? Yeah, it should be nice. Right edge of the fairway. Little little fade. Good drive, bud. Thank you. That’s better. So, if you get it past the old boy, I don’t know who’s the most famous person you played with golf with. Probably Adam Scott. I was playing a practice round at uh at Lake Karen up in the Heineken Classic one year and I played the front nine by myself and I look up and he’s walked over and he says, “Do you mind if I join you?” And I was like, “Wow.” Yeah, mate. It was it was cool to watch. Um he was long and just a great great rhythm, great swing. It was just just good to watch him play a practice round. Yeah. Oh, that’s so epic. And Kiwi Golfers, you played a bit with Ryan Fox. Yeah. Oh, Steve Ela. These these are older names. Um, you Michael Campbell. Yeah. Um, I actually caught up with Michael Campbell at the 10 US Open a couple of months ago in June. Did you Did you play it? Yeah, I went How did you go? Uh, horrendous to be honest. I um I went over and qualified and I played fantastic in the qualifying. It was sort of almost like the pinnacle for me and I was on a high and I came home for five weeks. Yeah. And I practiced and stuff like that, but when I got there, I just played rubbish on on a trick tricky course. Yeah. I was really disappointed. Ah, dang. But cool experience nonetheless. Oh, it was fantastic. Like I had a practice round with Ratif Gen. Yeah. Um, it was amazing. He was he’s 56 years old. He was blowing it by 30 m. I was I was amazed. And I see you just won last week. So, it’s good to see. Oh, that’s cool. So, plans to go back to more US Opens. I don’t know. It’s expensive, you know, if you’re if you’re not going there and playing well and making money, it’s it’s pretty hard to to justify, I suppose. Yeah. That’s sick. Hey, well, look, I outdrove you one time. You got me. Just I’d rather be where you are, though. So, hit a good drive. Got 104 down breeze and the breeze is off off the right. There’s a swale on the left. I’m just going to hit it, I don’t know, 10, 12 feet right of the hole. And I will have a downhill putt down wind, but it’s better being there than than missing the whole way to the left. I’ve pulled it straight. That’s a great shot. That was a good pull. That was a really good shot. What you a little sandy, was it? Yeah. Yeah. I’m going to sand. First decent drive since the first hole. Got 94 m into the pin. Going to hit my sand wedge. Try to hit like a stock 75 80 m shot and then should release cuz we’re a little down slope that kicks down to the left. So just right at the pin. Oh, finned it. But that might work. Ah, it’s probably long. Terrible. I need to lock in. I need to just actually hit some shots. This is a weird green. It looks like everything goes that way with putting, but I know that it just pretty much stays straight. But I’ll probably play it like a foot out left. It’s quite a tight lie. I could either just bump and run, but the putter has been working well, so just putt it. Oh my gosh, that wind just pulled it up heaps. Richard’s probably going to make this for birdie. So, I have about a I don’t know 10 to 12t putt. Isaac’s putt went a different way to what I thought it would do, but this has to break right to left. So, as usual, I never I know it’s right to left. I never decide to break until I’ve over the ball. So, again, I look for where I think the ball will come out of the hole and I track it back very slowly. Then I’ll adjust the putter face to there. And if you get if you get the speed right, you’re never too far off. There we go. He’s too good at golf. Great putt, mate. Thanks, bud. Cheers. All right, I’m going to just practice this. Oh, excellent putt. Thanks. Happy with that. Yeah, this guy’s just birdie king right here. What’s the most birdies or your lowest round ever? Uh, I shot 59 around Tong. 59 around Tong. Yeah. I’ve had a lot of rounds like 9 10 unders. Yeah. A lot of course records. Crazy. Just got to be able to hold putts, you know. What’s the round you’re most proud of in your career? Probably the course record at Royal Melbourne. Royal Melbourne. You still hold it? No. Um, I shot 10 under and Ernie shot 12 under, I think. 12. Two years later. Oh, two years later. Oh, you hold it. That’s pretty epic. Yeah, it’s pretty cool. Holy. So, a great golf course. Yeah. So, you like automatic just get free invites back there now? I don’t know. X course record holder. Who knows? I’ve I’ve actually uh I think I’ve only played there once since on the eighth hole now. Wind’s very hard off the right downhill to the green. I’ve teed on the left hand side of the green which will help promote a draw. If you teed more on the right to play more of a fade. I guess it’s a 79. So I got to change clubs. So I’ll get rid of that. So we’re going to start it right. Play it low and draw it in with the breeze. Big draw. Keep drawing. Go. Oh, it’s a great shot. Is it going to get there? Yeah. Yeah, it’s rolling to the hole. Oh, it could go on the hole. Go. Wow. Oh my gosh. What did I get myself into? Okay. Well, that you end up going with 7A. Yeah. Yeah. I want to try to play the I’m just going to copy monkey see monkey do. I like that little low seven iron draw started out there as well. Oh, that’s way too much draw. You might have overhooked it. Set off the green. That’s all good. Yeah. So, I’m left-handed at most things except for golf and cricket. Oh, wow. So, uh I’m left-handed, but all you do Yeah. You put the club there like that. Yeah. And you just flick it with your wrist. If you do hard too hard, it just goes flying. So you’re just going to go like that and just little flick. I’m only doing I’m only doing that. Have you got that? So you’re here and then you’re grabbing it like that. Yep. Just a little we flick. Yeah. You see you’ve done it too hard. So it comes I’m just ruining your club. No m just an old club. That’s almost it. There we go. Not as cool as what he did. Get coaching from this guy. He can teach you cool tricks like that. I pretty much just got to give this a go because I pretty much know he’s already going to make that part. Didn’t check on you. Ah, gave it a run. So, my eyes aren’t what they used to be, and I tend to see most putts right to left. For some reason, I struggle to see uh left to right putts when there’s not much in it. But, this has to be straight or just off the left and left to right with the breeze as well. Just got to trust the read. So again, now I’m over the ball. It looks straighter or even right to left. So I’m going to look back from the hole, follow a line, adjust my putter face to that line, and go. Didn’t hit it. Ah, we have a chance. I kind of regret getting aggressive on that chip, but you know, we’ll hold this putt. We’re good at putting. Pretty straight looking pass. Oh, great putt. Oh, okay. Very firm. Well done. Got a half. It’s good. What’s the match? Is it two or three? Uh, I think I’m one, two, three down. Three down. Okay. Three down. Most of this front nine wasn’t here. The first is the only original hole. The green was further back and the second T was probably just a little bit down there where Anna’s looking and then it went down into there. You can almost make out where the green was. The green was then a par five went up the hill then back down and the fifth came around. We’re about to drive over the fifth. The old green. That’s so cool. It was an amazing course back then. It’s still great. Did they have to change it cuz of the sand dunes and stuff? Yeah. The the um erosion from the from the ocean that are taking a lot of holes away. Oh wow. So it’s quite sad for them. Yeah. So on the ninth te it’s into off the left. I’m teeing off the right to try and negate the breeze. I’ll hit it a little bit down the left. Um, I’ve been drawing it lately, so if I draw it, it’s fine. And if the wind just leaks it off to the right, that’s fine as well. So, I’ve teed it up lower. I’ll finish with a lower back swing, which will help me keep the ball lower as well. But I’m getting blown around just on this T- shot. And a low one. That’s good. That was buttery. Great shot. Thanks. Yeah, good drive. Yeah, should be good. Yep. Sweet two in the fairway is always good on this hole into this wind. Okay, we got 145 m in. Going to go five iron just with the wind. It’s on the ups slope so it should get up. So try to play like a little little grip down on it a little bit as well. I’m going to try to play like a little draw and just hold it cuz the wind’s sort of heating that way. Oh, blocked it. Ah, that’s about 50 m right of the green. So, I got 145 as well. Quite a decent UPS slope, so it’s it’s going to help the ball get in the air. So, I got a five iron. Put it back in my stance. Quite sheltered here, but up by the the the pin that’s um the flags getting blown around quite a lot. I doubt this is going to go long, but if it does go long, it’s okay here cuz there’s a bit of a back stop. So, back in my stance. Low one. That’s a great shot. Go, go. Yeah, it’s on the green. We’ll take it. Anything on the greens here is good. I got sand here into the wind. So, I’m going to take a lob wedge and going to like let the wind stop it cuz I don’t really think I can use a slope short cuz I think it’ll kick it too far. Try to land it like 3 m short of the pin with a little lob wedge. Straight and back into the breeze. Oh, just flew it. Oh, I hit it too hard. All good. I’ll make the putt. We’re still outside, Richard. But um we’ll have a putt here. It’s going left to right. Go, go. Oh, good try. Oh, I had it all. Well, that’s good for his two putt, probably. So, four down through nine. Well, you’re not fall down yet. I got to put this uphill, right to left putt. The wind’s going to slow this down quite a bit. I just need to two putt it to win the hole. Still want to give it a run, though. It’s funny. I haven’t played match play in over 30 years cuz um you don’t tend to play match play as a as a golf pro. It’s weak. Ah, that’s good. It’s all right. All right. Well done. Do we want to keep going? Yeah. Up to you, mate. I’m keen. I’m keen. I’m loving. We’ll see what we can do. Yeah. If it gets like atrociously bad, I feel like this is fine. It’s not like that annoying rain, you know? It’s just little spitty. It’s not. Yeah. Once it if it comes in hard, it’s going to get off out of it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, I agree. When I make a comeback here on the back nine, guys, I’m four down through nine getting absolutely demolished, but it just shows you like how skilled this man is in this in these conditions. All right, 10. This is normally like a driver sandwich. It’s going to be a bit longer today. Teed it up low. This is straight into the breeze. I’ll swing a bit more around. That’ll help keep the ball lower. Oh, it’s so good. So smooth. Yeah. Yeah. Nice shot. Going to be a seven I don’t know. Yeah, it’s playing long. Yeah, a lot longer than normal. Literally just trying to copy what he does. Oh, that wind is literally blowing me back as I’m trying to swing. That’ll be all right. I’ll have a shot. Yeah, I got 180 in. I’m going to hit that low draw with the hybrid that I had on the other hole. Okay. I’m not sure he’s got enough club here. I’ll be taking a 3wood. Ah, didn’t draw. Short. Anyway, that’s a good leave there. It’s so windy, guys. It’s crazy. So, 141. The pins on the top tier. And it’s cold. My hands are cold. I’m think I’m going to chip a little five on. That’s how windy it is. Yeah. Probably the perfect club after last hole. Yeah. Yeah, it should be. Just grip down in a little bit. It’s going to help me keep it lower and I’ll have an abbreviated low left follow through. Yeah, good shot. I’m drawing off it. It’s not going to get up the back to you. Wow. Just got to the green. It’s going to come off. Oh, what? Look at this. That is windy. Got the sand, bro. Thanks, bud. Wow, man. It’s coming. Still rolling. Still rolling back down with this breeze and I hit a little low pitching wedge. Just try and carry this this mound you can see in front and get it rolling up the green cuz a high shot into the into the wind here just it will just kill it. Yeah, pretty good be all right. I think bit short. It’s like 15 ft short. Okay, pretty much got the same shot as last hole. Um, going to take it a bit more right and then just let it spit like the wind take it left. I don’t know. Not a great shot. Hard putt now. The fun part this one downhill right to left downwind hill. Ah man, that’s Oh, probably an 18 footer uphill left to right back from the hole. So weak putts today. Jeez, that’s good. Let’s go this for a half. Yeah. Straight up the hook. Good putt. It’s a half. At least we didn’t bleed more. We got four down, eight to go. If this was a tournament, I’d be happy being even far after 10 holes. Oh, you’d be stoked. Yeah. And this Yeah, for sure. You’d be very stoked. 150. It’s straight down wind. the pins tucked just over the bunker uh with hard greens. So, you cannot get the ball close here. The best thing you can do here is just take enough club. Make sure you’re over the bunker, get to the back of the green, and just take your medicine that way. It’s either a nine or a pitching wedge. Uh I’m going to go the nine on. It’s a bit of guess work here, but I’ll be happy on the green even up at up the back. Not even aim at the flag and I scoldled it. Oh no, it’s in the bunker. It bounced short of the bunker, then bounced over the bunker and then rolled off the back of the green. Oh well, that’s crazy. That’s what happens. You scull them. I’m going to tee up a pitching wedge and hit it high and try to land it as soft as possible. But dang, it’s crazy. Go. I didn’t hit it great. What the bounce? Stop there. Why’ I hit it so bad? Was it the finish of the bunker? Yeah. Got a really bad bounce. Yeah. Oh, Link’s course bounce. There’s a little back stop, so should be all right. Oh no, I actually need bunker practice so bad. Oh, probably got 30 m downhill and then basically uphill all the way. It’s right to left. I’ve been weak on a lot of putts on this today. Uh so I’m going to have to give this a bit of a hammer. Straight back into the breeze. I’m pretty happy with the two putt here. Hit too hard. That was a good part. Way too hard. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay, that was quick down that hill. Whoa. Can’t believe how left that went. Ah. Come on, hold it. It’s good for the two part. It’s good for the hole. So, even though I’ve hit the ball quite a long way past, I got to see which way it broke. And so, it broke right to left. So, now I’m coming back. This should in theory go left to right. Always watch your putts and how they finish when you’re playing golf. Doesn’t look left to right to me, but I’ll have a look. Have a go at it. That looks right to left to me, but I trust the read. Maybe a little bit straighter. miles left right. That’s good. All right. Five down for 11. Woo. Every hole got to be a birdie. Now on the 12th, winds into off the left. So again, I’m going to te off the right to try and negate the breeze a little bit. I’m hitting more into the breeze. If I draw it, it’s fine. If the wind just drifts it right, that’s fine as well. So again, I’m going to have an abbreviated follow through more around to the to the left. Keep this ball low. And I’ve pushed it, but that’s going to be fine. Should just maybe catch the edge of the fairway. That’s all right. Hey, you got the spot. I got the spot. I’m just going to try and hit the fairway. Yeah, good drive. Better bit better. Should be good. I just remembered something. Swing thought. Yeah. Okay. Good drive. We found the middle. Normally, we would go for this, but it’s 232 into the stiff breeze. So going to try to hit one just short of that left bunker which is 200 m. Just going to hit a little forearm. Keep it low out of the wind. Back foot. Just little draw. Yeah, that should be good. I just got to hit a little for down there just to lay up. No point getting near the bunkers. Oh, low hook into the rough. Yeah. Shot up the left. It’s a good shot. Oh, great shot. It’s a bit long. Not bad. A little long, but I’ll take that into this wind and rain. 80 m into the breeze when I was playing a lot. I had a wedge system with basically the pelt system. Uh I’d go back to where I feel about there. I know it goes further with momentum and follow through. My pitching wedge used to fly around 88 m. Um this shot you do have to practice a lot to get the distance right. I’m going to try it now with the spray. So So 88 is a normal distance with this wind. Hopefully I take 8 meters off it. So here we go. Yeah. Put it back a little bit in the stance. Oh, it’s right on the hole. It might be long actually. Yeah. Too long. Wrong club. Wrong shot. All right. So, this is the type of thing as a in a golf as a golfer in a golf tournament. You cannot afford to make mistakes like I’ve just made. Uh this is a very very tough shot. You really got to take your medicine. Just land it on and try and hold an 8 footer. But I’ll um really try and flop this up to get it coming out softer. I grip it down lower. I’m going to take a very wide stance, dig myself in. That helps me dig under the ball. I get very low like this. And the face is it’s like that. And it’s going to drip it up and pop it down. There’s a bit of bird poo I can see. I’m going to try and land it on that which is just on the front of the green. But again, this is a highly risky shot. And I got feel like I come across it and pip it up. All right. This could go anywhere. And too much sand. Pretty good though. Yeah. It’s terrible. It’s good. It’s good by my standards. I’m going to try to drip this one in because I’ve been hitting everything way past little left to right downhill. No. Yeah. Good try. It’s good. You’re probably going to hold this one. So, I just saw Isaac’s drift to the right with his putt. So, this should hopefully drift a little left. Just got to get it there. Give myself a chance. Hey, we won a hole. Shocker. Hey, good to get another win since the first hole. Um, we’re now four down with six to play. Goal is to try get one or two more wins. Uh, I love this hole. I’m just going to straight over these little pine trees or the little fade and the wind should hold it. Or a little draw. Oh, I missed the tree. Oh, I hit the tree. So, I played here recently in a senior proam. It was down breeze and I hit driver and I got too close to the green and I end up making a five because I I misjudged my second. So, I’m going hit a 3-wood. As you can see, I’m on the left hand side of the tea. It’s going to help me draw it with the wind off the right. So, I’m going to aim at those traps and just let that breeze hopefully bring it back. Yeah, sure. It is. Should be in the fairway. That’s definitely the way to play it. Got my up the was up. Got to support the was up the was Hey. Yeah, we love the supporting the was we love the we love the warriors. Yeah. Not a great lie here. I thought this was a stick that I could pick it up, but it’s like a root of this ice plant stuff. I’m going to take a sand wedge here. Got about 110, but straight down wind and just just commit to a full swing straight over these bushes here. All right, wedge flies 80, but it’s down breeze. I’m going to slight the old divot. Just going to play it back in this stance and just get it up there. And and I fatted it. Oh well. Short of the green. So I made five last time I played here. It’s not very nice conditions. I’ve got a shot here. I got to hit it low under this tree and then try to run it up the hill. Um yeah, just guessing. Try to get it underneath this tree here. About 60 70 m. We got it out at least. Try to get on the green. Probably too long. Not a bad shot though. When you’ve got an elevated green, the greens are normally quite a bit firmer. So down downwind, firm greens, just going to try and flop it up pretty high. Just hope. That’s a great shot. Yeah, we’ll find out. See what it is. Should be all right. [Music] [Music] Oh, what’s that? Six. Yeah, six for me. Wait, you’re putting for four? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. All right. That’s good for your two putt. Oh, it’s gone right. Oh, well, still get a win. Still got a win. Uh, five down, five to play. Dormy, do me. Yeah. Playing well, guys. Righty. Just trying to keep it low here. You got rubbish on the right, rubbish on the left. Just trying to hit a fairway finder. Feed it low. Abbreviated follow through. Keep it low. That’s down the fairway. That’s That’s such a good shot. Thanks. Yeah, good drive. Just climbing a bit, but it’s a good drive. Yeah, it should be good. Little low forehand again. Oh, I’ve actually set there. Bit of a hook. So, I can’t get to the green. It’s 197 to that bunker left of the green. I’m just going to grip down on a fivewood. Keep it low. If I mis hit a fivewood, it’s going to be a lot better than a miss at four on. So, grip it low. Abbreviated low left uh swing. Get the ball coming out low. And I Oh no. Oh my god. That’s probably findable. Hit a shocking uh shot. Probably overthinking my second shot. I’m in the ice plant. This could come out anywhere, but I’m just going to hack a n ir out. Let’s try and get it down the field a bit. Play for a par. Might have gone too far. Stay down. Get down. That’s in the fairway. I think 105. I’m going to go like a low pitching wedge and just land it. I had a little fade off the pin. Try to give myself something into the middle of the green. [Music] That was really short, but it’s on the green. Long as putt with the back left pin place and the wind off the left. This is not the place you want to be. So, in a tournament, I wouldn’t go for this flag, but we’re playing a match play. I’m a few holes up. I’m going to have a go at it. 90 m. Going to hit a little low grip down gap wedge. Just left the hole. Let the wind drift it. Ah, the wind’s a shocker. Wow, that wind’s strong. Yeah. Wow. Let’s try to lag it up. Get as close as possible uphill. into wind. Give it a good hit. Yeah, good putt. That’s good. Thanks. Going to hold this for half. Probably one on 100. [Music] Sure. That’s good. That’s good, mate. Pick it up. We survived another day. Yeah. Oh, I feel like it would have been a lot worse finishing on uh Feel like uh anything before 15 is like really bad. Yeah. You guys know that I’m just holding in there cuz I want to play more golf. I think Richard’s done, but he’s a good good sport. Try out a drive here up the left side with a little fade. That’s a beauty, mate. It’s your best today. Beautiful drive. Yeah, thank you. Should be off the left slightly this wind. Go left center of the fairway. Oh man, managed to find a fairway. Got 115. Wind’s down off the left. Bunker left pin high. My gap wedge normally goes 100, but I’m I’m going to try and hit this. Even it’s near the front of the green. It’s fine. The wind should help it get back to the hole. It’s funny. It’s windy here, but the flag’s not blowing at all. Ah, it’s pretty of the hole. Oh no, the wind. Let’s take it off the green. That might be in the bunker. bunker. Maybe 110. Going to go gap wedge. I saw that one just get taken by the wind. So, I’m try to play a little draw to hold it off against the wind. Oh my goodness. All that’s not a winning shot right there. So, I’m a slight downhill lie and the rain’s made the sand a bit firmer. I’m just trying to get land this maybe a meter onto the green and hopefully it releases out to the hole. Didn’t spin at all. I thought you hold that. Yeah. I’ll put a spot on it. I feel like he’s going to make that. So, I kind of need to give this a run. Try and make it. He’s had a go. Oh, wow. If he holds it, match over. I need this to have the hole. It’s left to right. It’s going to die in. Some people ram the putts in and some people lag them. I’m more of a lag putter. Oh my. Need more speed. I am going to make this now. I have to make it. Now I’m like I thought you would make that 100%. Now I’m like, “Oh, why’ I smash it so hard?” We know it goes left. Oh, didn’t break. Hard luck, mate. Thanks for the game, mate. Thank you. I got a prize for you. I got a prize for you. Have you? Yeah. Yeah, I do. I’ll grab it. What have you got? Here you go. Here’s your prize. So this is one of our loyal workshop um genuine leather scorecard holders. Oh, cool. Thank you. So these are made by um women who have been freed from the save industry in India, right? So um Wow. Yeah, it’s pretty cool. Cool. Thank you. The days appreciate it. No worries. Thank you. Thanks for um humbling me a lot and teaching me a thing about playing golf in these windy conditions. Yeah, you’re on the right track, mate. Open. Just got to uh get that scoring going. Yeah, get the scoring going and don’t do those stupid shots. um course management. But yeah, thank you for showing me around the course and teaching me a lot. Learned a lot today. I really appreciate it. Thanks for having me along. There’s going to be an aiming for I’ll probably be like on this hole. One of those houses in the top in the background. Which house? Um let’s go at that. Where? See that hill? Yeah, that of grass like the right side of that. Okay. Yeah. Will probably be my aiming point. Yeah, that feels good. [Music] beauty. Where was that all day? Yeah. Getting a little bit of coaching on the last hole here today. Oh, just for a perspective of how windy it is today. It’s my drive on 18 off the back tea. How long is this hole? 380 390? Probably maybe. Yeah, maybe 390 when I’ve got like only like 25 meters to the front of the green. So, goes to show how windy it is. Got about 70 m to the back pin. Um, probably there’s a little back stop and you want to kind of get on that back tier. You’d probably run this up, eh? Uh, it’s a big tier. Yeah, I I probably would run it up actually. Would you hit like a 50° into the like onto the bottom tier and then it will probably chase up cuz of wind? Yeah, I got a gap 52. So, I’ gap wedge. Okay. Make it sure you’re left of the hole cuz that tier will will drift it to the right. Yeah. Okay. So, left of the hole with a 50° land on the bottom tier. Yeah. Probably probably 8 ft left. Yeah. Okay. 8 ft left. I heard the man. Oh, well played. It Oh, well played. Thank you. I don’t know where this was. See, I was just so nervous playing this dude. You would have smashed me with those shots. Right edge and like just outside, right? You got to allow for the wind when the greens are faster like this. Allow for the breeze. But allow for the breeze. Would you be playing that like right edge then? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just like But it’s got to be a firm putt. Firm putt. Yeah. Okay. Hold on. There we go. A little birdie. When was that before, mate? I don’t know. But thank you for coaching me on my only birdie of the day. Cheers. Christmas has arrived early. Okay, Isaac. So, look, I know you love your older gear. This is when I was playing in Japan. Um, I’m going to give you a whole lot of stuff. It’s been sitting under my house for probably 11 years cuz we’ve been there 11 or 12 years. And I finished on the Japanese tour around 2012. So, this is that date or even earlier than that. Oh, cool. Quite a bit of gear here. Um, there’s a whole lot of hats. Whole lot of hats. There’s a visor for Anna. I’ve got that for my wife years ago. Here you go, babe. You going to look good on that. An old Titus hats. This is all Titus gear. Oh, cool. This is sick. Oh, yep. Number one ball. Oh, these are very That’s a nice color. That one’s been used, unfortunately. These are brand new. So, in Japan, we play through the rainy seasons. Yeah. And we wear these all the time. Oh, wow. How cool. So, this is a bit dirty. Yeah, it sounds all good. It’s a Oh, a bag cover. Bag rain cover. I actually need one of those. Yeah. So, it’s a topless one. Oh, cool. Sweet. Yeah, I needed one of these last weekend at Fakatani. It was uh very wet and my stuff was getting soaked. Thank you. All right. In Japan, we used to be given Yeah. Dless balls. We get four dozen balls a week. Most guys had their name in English. I had my name in Japanese. Yeah. And then one year I mucked around and I was just play as a joke and I put Ginger Ninja on my golf ball. So these haven’t been opened in 12 years. Ginger Ninja dozen balls for you. Oh, thank you. I don’t tight this towel. Tieless towel. Still in this original bag. Never been opened. Oh, how cool. Is this one of the big catty tails? It’s just one of the ones used to get. Yeah. Oh, that’s cool. That’s really cool. Thank you. Oh, they might be too big for you. I’m a size 11 US. Oh wow. Um they do feel a bit firm. They’ve been sitting on the house forum. They might actually split but I don’t know some one of your mates might like them. Yeah. Yeah. And also just some gloves. So I in Japan they don’t go like small, medium, large. They go in numbers. Yeah. So I was always a 24 or 25. Yeah. Very true. There you go. There it’s got a 25 in. Yeah. That might have been too big because that’s so nice. It’s a nice So the soft joys these are like the tour gloves. It feels so nice. So we get four dozen balls, probably six gloves a week and just as many hats as you wanted. Really? That’s so cool. Oh, thank you so much. No worries, mate. I hope you enjoy it. Feels like Christmas. Yeah, that’s that one fits like a glove. These are cool shoes. I don’t know why I didn’t never wore these. Cuz they’re just too cool to wear. They are cool. I I do think they’re going to split though. Um, you think they’re a bit old? Yeah. I wouldn’t give them away. No, they’re cool. This is such cool stuff. Yeah. Thank you so much. You’re always, man. You’re welcome. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks so much again, guys. You got to check out um Richard’s coaching page. Ali Golf.nz. You saw what happened on the 18th hole just then. He gave me a little bit of coaching. Made birdie. So, uh, you should have given me some coaching before we went out. Got to win the match. Yeah. Oh, thanks so much. Good to meet you. [Music] Hey,

That was fun to follow !
Trying to absorb as much knowledge as possible
Good effort Isaac. Such a cool video. I know nothing about this guy but his thinking is on point 🤝
First time watching Richard play, he’s that good 🐐
This is a cool video. The idea of a marketing pro, playing with playing pro. I remember this name, Richard Lee, who was on scoreboards on TELEVISION. I have a golf channel. The idea of taking videos with birds chirping. Its a cool format. Must generate money. Atleast its marketing. Could there be a creators ranking, like a player ranking. This channel is actual awesome. The fashion is actual awesome. Its cool merger, between fashion golf and 'in the hole golf'.
Dont go in fairway bunkers. Stick to the fairway. How bout the Fairway Masters. The third event of a Masters series. North Island Masters, South Island Masters, then Fairway Masters. The North and South events are qualifying for the Fairway Masters. People attempt to qualify for the North and South then people in the top 70 and top 70 from each event make the 140 at the Fairway Masters.
Mate you got some early Christmas presents at the end! What a nice chap he is, and has a great golfing iq. Cheers
Having Richard go through what he thinking and why before his shots was awesome information. Great vid format loved it it!
What a great guy Richard is and I just loved his commentary all the way round. You held your own Isaac, played well and you heard Richard say that your almost there which should give you a lot of confidence. Thanks for all your work in posting A and I…Cheers..😊
imagine being so cool you could hit that shot on the 8th! just… WHAT?! 🤣😂🤣
