For David Ddale, a breakthrough nearly 20 years in the making, finally arrived. The Scottish golfer, who claimed his second challenge tour when back in 2006, had played over 500 starts on the DP World Tour without tasting victory. That long wait ended on Sunday as Dale secured his first legends tour title at the Sir Nick Faldoesigned Vatinac Golf Resort in Cambodia. Dale delivered a flawless bogey-free 66 in the final round, overtaking England’s Philip Archer to claim the 72,000 first prize, Vatinac Legends Championship winner. “That sounds fantastic,” Dedale said shortly after his emotional triumph. “It’s been a long time coming, but it feels amazing. I played really well today and am delighted to get it done. I just try to stay calm, stay focused, and hit one good shot after another. It means the world to me. I’ve had a few chances in the past where it didn’t go my way. This definitely makes up for that. Finishing at 12 underpar, Dale edged out English duo Anthony Wall and Peter Baker by a single stroke. Along with a winner’s prize, Dale moves up to seventh in the Legends Tour Order of Merit. With a top 10 earning spots at next year’s Senior US Open at Sciota Country Club, the 50-year-old now has a strong chance of qualifying. “I’m so pleased for David. He’s a diamond and he deserves to win.” Wall commented, “The Legends Tour continues in Cambodia with back-to-back events, including this week’s Vatinac Legends Championship Legacy Edition on the resort’s West Course.
