Adam Scott and Marc Leishman were charging up the leaderboard when the latest Brisbane storm suspended play early in the third round of the Australian PGA Championship.

New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori had birdied the last four holes on Friday to take the outright lead into the weekend and he was fending off a host of challengers, starting with consecutive birdies to sit at 12 under when play was halted at Royal Queensland GC.

Anthony Quayle (12 under) joined him at the top with a birdie on the sixth hole before the hooter sounded, while former world No.1 Scott was four-under through nine holes to be just two shots off the leader.

Spaniard David Puig also birdied the ninth to replicate Scott’s front-nine 32 and jump into outright third at 11 under.

Leishman was three-under through seven holes to be level with Scott, Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia and China’s Wenyi Ding at 10 under while Min Woo Lee was nine under through six holes.

Organisers of the $2.5 million event opted for an earlier, shotgun start in an attempt to make up for the inevitable loss of time with storms, that have hammered Brisbane all week, looming.

Cameron Smith was a spectator on the driving range on Saturday after his four-over 75 on Friday meant the event’s three-time champion missed a seventh-straight cut.
