Welcome back to Golf the Beer X’s Winning What’s in the Bag, where this week we’re going to take a look at Sammy Valamaki’s winning what’s in the bag from the 2025 RSM Classic. Uh he is actually Finland’s first PJ Tour winner, which is kind of crazy. Uh but it is. And it is his first victory out on tour, so big time exemption for him. Uh this early part of the year, it’s always uh it seems to be a lot of, you know, first- time winners, which is really cool. gives these uh players out there just a a chance to kind of earn their stripes out on the PJ tour, which uh was pretty awesome. Now, with this one here, we unfortunately don’t have a ton of photos of Sammy’s bag. Uh the last time we shot his bag was the 2024 Waste Management, so quite a bit. Uh almost a year ago, a little less. So, we’ve only got a few of his clubs in terms of photos. Uh back then, he was a Callaway staff member. Uh now, currently, he is a free agent. So, we’re going to go through his bag, uh talk about a lot of his stuff. Uh, I don’t have tons of detail either. I think a lot of us were scrambling just to get this what’s in the bag kind of together. So, bear with me on this one, but we’ll start at the top as we always do. And his driver is the Titalist GT3. So, the GT3 is of course the lower spinning kind of lower launch uh version of the GT in the GT lineup. There’s of course the GT2 GT1 that are of course more forgiving, a little bit higher launching, more higher spinning. And then there’s kind of the specialty GT4 uh that is super low launch, super low spin, or at least can be set up that way. The GT3 is kind of in the middle uh kind of aimed at a slightly better player but can use be used by a fairly wide range of players. Uh and now his is an 8° head and the Sure Fit Huzzle setting is set to A1 which is standard. So playing at 8° standard lie angle and then of course on the bottom there is the Sure Fit track weight uh which in the bottom there you can slide there’s a little weight you can move it two positions into the toe, two positions into the heel to kind of draw in dial in the fitting even a little bit more. Some people use that for shot bias. uh move it to the heel to make more draw, move to the toe, use more fade, or some people will move that mass uh just like behind where maybe impact is. Maybe the person, you know, hits the ball a little bit on the heel, then move that weight over to the heel uh to kind of help with that impact. So, his of course is set to just neutral. So, overall just a neutral head there. Uh but a great driver for somebody who, you know, kind of needs a little bit lower spin, little little lower launch, likes that classic shape and feel uh in a driver. And then the shaft on his is a project X hazardous smoke red RDX7TX. So the smoke red RDX uh this was like kind of a line uh you know hazardous came out first when project X was a huge success. Uh then the smoke uh hazardous smoke which was a little bit smoother feeling shafts and then the RDX ones came out and these ones had a little different material in them to make them a little bit more stable. They’re also a little bit more stout. Uh and the red one is kind of a mid-launch mid spin shaft. Uh the 70TX comes in at 73 grams and 2.6 degrees of torque. Now move on to the next club in his bag and he is actually playing a mini driver for a 3-wood. Uh the mini driver here is a tailor made R seven quad and it is the 13 12 degree head. Not really sure on what his hoszle settings are on this one. Uh unfortunately just couldn’t find it anywhere. Uh don’t have a photo of it, but he is playing his R seven quad which is pretty cool. It’s a much small, you know, it’s a little bit smaller uh than a driver, bigger than a 3-wood. Great off the tee. It’s got four movable weights that you can kind of adjust uh the weighting on the head to kind of further enhance the fit of it. Much like the driver, you can kind of shift those weights for either flight bias or impact position uh anything like that. Again, not sure where his weights are set up on this one. Uh but this one also is shafted up with a project X hazardous smoke red RDX70TX. So again, a little bit higher launching uh shaft. This one here is a little bit softer kind of down near the tip uh and just helps promote a little bit higher ball flight uh in that smoke red. So they also made a blue version that was kind of low launch, low spin that was counterbalanced. And then they made the black which is very stiff, very stable, low launch, low spin. So red being a little bit more playable, a little bit higher launching for those players who need a little bit of height or maybe need a little bit of spin. The next club in this bag is then going to be a 7wood and this is going to be a Tailormade Qi35 7wood. Uh so this is the latest one out. Uh single little weight on the bottom. I believe this is bonded hoszle. Uh I was looking for some images of his what’s in the bag uh out there while he was playing stuff like that. I believe this is the bonded hoszle version uh which is tour only and that one there does have a slightly different shape to it. I feel like it’s not quite as maxi. It’s not as quite big looking from a dress. It’s a little bit more slimmed down. Looks a little bit more like a Qi10. But the Qi357 would just a great blend of forgiveness distance uh and just overall playability. So it’s got a slightly deeper face. You can hit it off the tea. Uh it’s got a good amount of forgiveness if you do mishit it. And you know, being a bonded huzzle, they typically use that to move a little bit of weight around. Uh, should launch high and be able to land the ball soft into the grain. So, 21 degree head there. Uh, and this is shafted up with, I bet you’d be shocked, a Project Xhazardous Smoke Red RDX 80TX. Uh, so yes, this is the 80X, which again, mid-launch, midspan, but this is a tour issue part. They never made it for retail. We don’t have any true specs on it. Uh, so I’m going to believe it’s probably right around 85 g. uh probably launch a little bit lower than the 70. So, it’s probably mid to maybe uh you know, mid to maybe slightly less than that in terms of launch and spin. Uh but again, should be set up similar profile, that slightly softer tip to help get that ball up in the air uh and help kick it up, let it land soft going into the green. Now, for irons, he is playing uh the Ping Blueprint S and he’s playing these four through 9 iron. Uh so, the Blueprint S is, of course, the forged cavity back iron that Ping makes for better players. See a ton of them on tour. one piece forging. Uh good size cavity back, a lot of perimeter weighting, and while it is small and compact from a dress, it is definitely not tiny by any means. Uh it’s got a little bit of mass there, and it’s slightly longer from heel to toe, but a great looking blade. I think like, you know, Ping’s best looking iron that they’ve made in I don’t even know how long, probably ever. Uh but it mixes great feel, uh precision, good distance control, and it also allows a decent shot on a mish hit. all that perimeter weighting, uh that toe screw, which you can kind of dial in swing weight, uh but it’s basically built to be a little bit more playable. So, even if you do miss it as like maybe an average Joe, Sammy probably doesn’t miss it as much as we do, uh we can still get away with a decent shot. But a good mid-launching uh iron with good feel uh and good control going into the grains. Now, these are shafted up with the True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour isue Mid X100. So, this is actually a version of the X100 that launches a little bit higher. And I think most of us are familiar with like the mid 115, mid100, the slightly lighter weight versions. Uh you probably didn’t know that they make a heavier weight one which is the same weight as the X100. So it comes in at 130 g uh just like the typical Dynamic Gold X100 does, but this thing flies a little bit higher. So the PE person who needs a little bit of height, maybe needs a little bit of spin, but doesn’t want to go down in weight, they do make a part for this. It’s not very wellnown. You don’t see it very often, uh but it does exist. So this is the X100 version. 13 g mid-launch, mid spin. Uh similar feel to dynamic gold, but gets that ball up a little bit higher. Now, moving to wedges, and wedges are going to be the Titalist Voki SM10s. Uh the first wedge in the bag is going to be the 4610F, which is going to be, of course, the pitching wedge replacement. So, some players will use a stock pitching wedge out of the set. Some players use more of a sand wedge style. Really depends on a lot of factors. For some players, it’s a look. Uh some people like looking at, you know, more of a sandwich style wedge from Address. Uh for other players, it can be spin and launch where they want something that maybe spins a little bit more uh and looks a little bit more, you know, while looking like the the other wedges spins a little bit more, maybe flies just a tad lower uh in the pitching wedge. And for some players, it can be versatility around the green. Maybe you pitch and chip uh with a pitching wedge. And the 10 degree F grind sole is a little better at doing that around the green. So, a lot of different reasons why to play a 4610 instead of the stock pitching wedge that matches the set. And then from there, he uses a 50.08F uh for his gap wedge. So, this is the slightly lower bounce version uh or they call it the standard bounce uh version of the 50°ree. I know we actually talk a lot more about the 12 degree F. Uh but the 08F is very similar. It’s got that full sole uh it’s got a little bit of uh of camber to it, a little bit of relief down near the heel and at the at the back end. Uh but this is just the lower bounce version. So players who either have a little bit shallower angle of attack, play in a little bit firmer conditions, you know, they don’t take as big of a divot, uh they may play the 508F over the 5012F. So uh this one here is still a gap wedge, uh still meant in between there and uh just the lower bounce version. Now both of these are shafted up with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour issue X100. Uh these look to be the standard ones from the label on them. They tend to be gold instead of all black. Uh so these are going to be the traditional ones and these will fly a little bit lower than the mids. uh spin just a little bit less. So he may want to be able to take these two wedges in the bag and be able to flight those shots down a little bit easier than say with his irons to hit different shots into the grain. Then we move into sand wedge and his sand wedge is going to be the 5610s. Also an SM10. Uh so the S grind is of course similar to F grind but it’s got some trailing edge and heel relief to it. So it’s going to allow you to open the face up a little bit on tight lies. It’s also going to release well from the turf if you’re hitting a full shot because of that uh you know that relief. It just releases from the turf a little bit faster. Uh so for fuller shots, it gets through the turf smoothly. Still doesn’t dig. Still wants to kind of get through with a shallow divot. Uh but offers good penetrating ball flight with a good amount of spin. And then for his lob wedge, he is playing the 60.04 T grind. So the T grind extremely popular on tour, kind of built for highly skilled wedge players. Low bounce, tons of heel, trailing edge, and toe relief. really allow you to open the face up. That leading edge stays down on the ground on tight lies. Allows you to hit those high lofted shots with ease. But when you play it square, when you’re not opening the face, you just play it square to the target, it plays a little bit more than four degrees of bounce. You can still hit fuller shots without you having to worry about that thing really digging into the turf or taking a big divot or slowing you down or catching uh as it hits some kind of uh you know, grabby type lies or turf uh turf that you get into. Uh it also plays well out of the bunker having a little bit more behind that four degrees of bounce plane. square, even open. The dynamic bounce is still there, but the T grind is played by a ton of players on tour just for the creativity of it. Now, both of these uh wedges are shafted up with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tours Shoe S400’s. So, these are going to be a little bit softer than the X100’s. They’re stiff flex, but they’re actually a little bit heavier. So, they’re 2 g heavier, 132 g, but they do play a little bit softer. And and the reason being is a lot of people with 56 and 60 are not taking full shots with them. So you’re taking a little bit more partial shots around the green, little touch shots and things like that and that softer shaft can offer a little bit more feel. Now moving to putter and his putter is kind of an older putter. It is the Odyssey White Hot OG two ball. So this is the OG, the original one with the white hot insert. Uh it is just the classic design that kind of put Odyssey on the map. I mean they’ve sold more two balls than most companies have sold total putters in their history. Uh but the two ball is extremely popular. So it is the one that has a uh this one we have pictures of that are coming up right now. So, uh, that has the two balls on top. It actually has the line going through the two balls on the top. Now, this was originally done back in the day with just a Sharpie and a T-square for a lot of players who wanted it and they just wanted a better way to align the ball for their eyes. They used to draw a line across the two balls. And then Odyssey noticed that a lot of people did it. So, they started making it themselves and actually printing them uh there. So, they were straight, they were in the center, they they were just uh they were good. My dad actually used to draw a line on his two ball uh which was interesting. But this is a line version. Uh so you have a line there for alignment. Uh and then this one here, this OG white hot insert. So extremely soft uh but still responsive insert. It was multi material. Couple different layers of uh of kind of urethane or other materials there. Kind of rubber materials give it a soft feel. U not much click. More of just kind of a soft little uh knock as it leaves the face. But an overall classic putter there. Now this one here also uses a all black double bend shaft on it. Uh, so I’m not sure if this is any type of stroke lab or whatever, but it is kind of a looks to be a gloss black double bend, maybe reducing some glare or something like that visually, uh, that Sammy likes to look at. And then the grip on this one is a Superstroke Zenergy pistol 1.0. So, this is the midsize in the pistol lineup. There’s a GT tour that’s even smaller and a and a pistol 2.0 that’s even bigger. So, this is where it sits right in the middle. Really good feel to it. Uh it’s kind of got a little bit more of a traditional uh shaping to it where it’s got a little arc in the upper hand to kind of help lock that uh that grip into your upper hand while still having a flat top to like set both thumbs on pretty easily. Now for grips on the rest of his clubs, uh he’s using the Golf Pride MCC’s. So this is the kind of like the the biggest hybrid grip on Tour. It’s multiaterial, meaning the upper hand is going to be a firmer rubber uh that helps with control and helps resist twisting. It also has cord in it. So, it’s got the Golf Bride cord that’s kind of a thread that runs through. It’s basically made of cotton. Really helps with moisture, sweat, anything like that. Really gives it a kind of a little bit rougher feel, but great traction shoot through all weather conditions. And then the lower hand uh is actually a softer, more responsive rubber uh that’s going to give you a little bit more feel and feedback on those shots. Then for ball, he is playing the Titus Prov1X. Looks to be the 2025 model from what I’m understanding. Uh the Prov1X is of course going to be the slightly higher launching, higher spinning ball compared to the Prov1. Also feels a little bit firmer. Uh it’s a little bit firmer ball, so it’s got a little bit more click to it. Feels a little firmer with the wedges and the putter. So that is Sammmyy’s winning what’s in the bag from the 2025 RSM Classic. Congratulations again to him on his first win and being Finland’s first PGA Tour winner. So awesome to see and uh yeah, jump back next week when we’ll jump into the next winners. What’s in the bag?
