The final event of the ladies European tour season, the Andera Costa del So opened Espa coming from Rail Guad or Club de Gulf in Malaga in the south of Spain. Last season that trophy was won by Carl Saganda. But the Spaniard’s chances of defending her title and winning this event for the third time diminished on Friday. A round of 72, leaving her at three under par and a long way off the lead. Another two-time winner of this event is Atha Araunov. A lovely T-shot here at the par 31 17th and she is the leading Spaniard at five under par just outside the top 10. The battle to finish the season as the number one player on the ladies European tour couldn’t be any tighter. Shannon Tan needs to finish level or above Mimi Roads on the leaderboard. And right now they’re both tied for fifth at six underpar. Shannon Tan with a 67 on day two that was matched by the rookie of the year. Roads knows she has to finish in the top three or her chances are over. She’s lurking. That’s going to be some finish. Not quite as tight at the top of the leaderboard. Selene Airban, a two times ladies European tour winner with a birdie here at the 13th to get to seven underpar after two days. Her last win came in southern Spain in Sto Grande. Nine birdies and an eagle on the card for Nastasia Nadau. The French woman with a 65 that took her to seven under par as well. And how about this shot at the par five 10th for Alisandra Finalei. One of two Eagles on the day for the Italian who is second on her own after a round of 66. Time for the lead overnight was Treach Chinglab and she stretched away. She was six under for the round as she came to the last three holes. Well, she birdied 16. She then added another birdie at 17 and then rolled this one in at the par for 18th for a new course record 63. An incredible performance from the ladies European tour number one of two years ago and she has stretched away at 15 under par. She heads into the weekend with a sevenshot lead.
