Rick Shiels tests the new Tour Edge Exotics driver to find out why more golfers aren’t using it. The numbers are seriously impressive… so what’s stopping people putting it in the bag?

In one of the most recent videos I released here on the HIT channel, I tested a set of irons that I was blown away by and I mentioned they will probably be a set that you wouldn’t consider buying. Well, today I’m reviewing the drivers of said brand from Tour Edge. These are new exotics drivers. I’ve not looked at them yet. I’ve heard they are incredible looking and if they perform anything like the Irons do, I think we might be in for a treat. So, there are three drivers in the lineup. The LS low spin, the Max, which is maximum forgiveness, and also a light driver. I’ve actually not got light driver. It’s not going to really suit me, but it’s designed more for slower swings, swing speeds, etc. Uh, let’s do a lucky dip. Let’s find out which one we’re going to pull out the bag. First off, head covers. Very sleek. Tour Edge went through this new redesign recently celebrating 40 years of making product and the exotics lines is 20 years old as well and they’ve really pushed the boat out. Like I say, if you’ve not seen that Iron review, definitely check it out cuz I was honestly so impressed. Under this very sleek black and white head cover, we have I’m going to I’m going to guess the LS. I am right. This is the LS driver. Under this one, we’ve got the Max. O I tell you what, they are goodlooking drivers. First thing I’m noticing, this kind of matte carbon sole, this shiny front section of the golf club. Oh, lovely matte carbon crown. So, in both models, there’s a carbon crown, carbon sole, and that offers a lower center of gravity for launch and forgiveness. Both drivers have something what’s called the pyramid face. This is full face forgiveness. So variable fa face thickness to offer ball speed across the face. We’ve seen brands do that obviously in the past. And also there’s this 360 degree titanium ridgeback frame for strength, stability, and ball speed there. That’s the things that these two drivers have got in common. Uh they’re slightly different in the makeup. The Max is a 460cc head. There are adjustable weights here at the back. is an 18 g weight which you can put in the center for most neutral, most forgiveness setting. You can switch it up into the toe, you can move it into the heel. That’s supposed to move the ball right and left by moving that weight by about 7 yards. And this driver also offers 10 kmi. We’ve seen that quite a lot in brands recently. That is effectively the most forgiving driver brands can make right now. With all that being said, I’m going to whip this jumper off and I’m going to start smacking some shots with the Exotics with the Tour Edge Exotics Max Driver first. I tell you what, that is a good looking club head behind the ball. Love that matte finish. And it does have quite a triangular shape to it. Kind of this back kind of almost pinches away from the club face. Yeah, I like it. Right. I’m intrigued to give it a give it a hit. Oh, straight out the blocks. That’s a strong start. Wow, that’s a really strong start. I mean, thanks for watching. I mean I mean that was literally such a great t-shirt. Um, just a bit I’ve got this in 9° loft. Uh, it does have a loft sleeve. You can go up and down by two degrees. You can also put it in upright setting as well. I’ve just got this in standard 9° and I’ve got the weight, the 18 g weight here at the back just in the neutral setting. It’s not in toe or heel. It’s just bang on neutral. That felt good. It felt It sounded good. It flew fantastic. It looks superb. That ticked a lot of boxes right there for the first shot. By the way, one thing I’ve not mentioned yet is price. £379 for the both models or all three models. Decent price again when you compare it to Titless Callaway, Ping, Tailor Made, etc., which are closer to £500. But then you’ve got a lot of newer brands like your Tacoma, your vice, etc. A little bit cheaper. It’s kind of sit somewhere in that middle almost slightly cheaper than Cobra. Very similar to Cobra. It’s nice. I really honestly I really like the look of it. I think they’ve done a great job on the design. Little bit overdraw, but hit well. Very nice. Right, I’m going to hit a bunch of shots with this. Get a proper feel for it. [Music] That is nice. I really like that flight. pulled a couple left which is again my natural miss but there’s been some really I mean that is a really strong ball flight just a tiny little fade hugging down the left side of that line that was nice nearly blinding myself with the teeg then smacked me right in the face however if that’s my result every time I’ll take it [Music] okay this is This is a little bit interesting and actually it lends itself to just moving this weight cuz they’re all That one was a bit more left. That was the most extreme left. But all the shots I’ve hit so far have either been just left of the line or a bit left of the line. Well, what happens then if I move this weight into the fade setting? Again, this 18 g weight supposed to move the ball by seven yards to the right. I could do with that. I could do with that seven yards. Let’s move that weight and stick it in the toe. So, this is very similar to like the ping weight system. There’s a weight at the back. It’s not slidable. Actually, just screw out the weight. I’m just going to move that over to the fade setting. Yeah, this that’s very similar to ping. So, I’m going to hit another bunch of shots there. And just so we can see, does this 18 g weight does it move the ball seven yards to the right? There’s only one way to find out. Well, I didn’t hit a single shot like that in the neutral setting. That was pretty nice. I’ll take I’ll take a bunch of them. That was really nice. [Music] Oh, okay. I might still be able to hit it last. [Music] Oh, that was nice. That was really hit well. So, looking into numbers there, just even the testing I’ve done so far, very impressed. Very impressed. Starting off with when I had the weight in the neutral setting, carry distance 280 yards. You know, that’s my number. That is literally on my number. 302 total distance. Spin rate absolutely perfect. 2,145. Spot on. Launch angle good. Ball speed solid 158 mph. Average club head speed for me today 110 mph. Like this is almost like perfect what I’m normally hitting. They tick all the boxes. But if we look at that dispersion ring, it is just hugging the left side a little bit too much. Interestingly, the when I’ve moved the weight to the toe, so a little bit more fade setting. We saw very similar numbers on carry etc. The ball spun up a tiny bit more but nothing crazy with that I picked up more ball speed but apart from that if we look at the dispersion ring it has moved a bit to the right. There was just one shot that kind of little left one that really ruined the numbers. If I just take that shot out for a second. If I just take that one rogue towy snap hook out which no way would fix that. Look at the dispersion ring. It has shifted more to the right. Like the finish location is on the line or slightly right of it. So if I was using this driver, I probably would have it in that toe weight setting and it did it. It made a difference. There’s no question about it. It made a difference. Right, that’s all said and done for the Max version. Very impressed. So far, I’m going to enjoy hitting this LS. I can already tell. Okay, LS version. Low spin model. Slightly smaller head size at 440cc. There’s two weights in this. There’s a five gram weight and an 18 gram weight. One that can go in the back, one that can go in the front. I quite like where they’ve put it in the front here. They’ve almost made a little section. It’s quite It’s quite neat that currently right now I’ve got the weight the heavy weight in the back. Let’s see what the results do first and then we’ll see if I need to switch it to the front. They’re saying that 18 g weight if it moves to the front will lower the spin by 300 RPM. So, if I’m spinning this a little bit too high, we’ve got an option to lower it. My concern is I might lose forgiveness. We losing a little bit of head size. Not a lot, granted, but we are losing some. My excitement is if the Max version is doing the numbers I’ve just seen. This could blow out the water. 10 standard shots. I feel like I might be able to swing this a tiny bit faster because it’s smaller head size. Let’s see if we can get closer to 290 carry on average. That’s what I don’t know why. I just feel it is possible with this club. Another thing to notice as well, they come in shafts. Uh, Fugior Inventtor shafts. Even that’s got like a lovely little matte finish on it. It’s really nice. One thing I have noticed just sat behind the ball and I could change this. It sits a little bit flat, which again for someone who draws the ball, I prefer. You can put it in upright. So, if you need to change that, you could do, but it does behind the ball. Sits quite like a Callaway actually. Looks like a tailor made, but sits like a Callaway. Okay, first shot with the Tour Edge Exotics LS. Oh, that felt good. Oh, that felt good. What did we say? 290. Did we say that carried 289? Spin rate was a little bit low. 1,800, but we are what? 1.8. 8 y off line and 316 y down the fairway. Felt like I could swing that so much faster. Interestingly, my club head speed wasn’t faster. It’s actually a touch slower. That’s just that’s got that distance because of launch and spin. That’s managed to get that distance. I must admit, interestingly, I do probably prefer even there’s only 20 20cc between these two club heads. The Max is a much nicer club head behind the ball. This 440 had the LS. It’s just a little bit, it kind of looks smaller than 440. Little fadey one, but a nice hit. Yeah, really solid numbers again. Really solid. Looking at these numbers so far, it’s only a couple of shots. I don’t think changing the weight for me is going to help. I think that’s going to lower the spin too much because that to me was quite a high spinny one. Yet the spin rate was not even over 2,200. So if I was to switch that weight round, these are just going to be nose diving out the sky. So I think this this is a really good setup for me. Way at the back, 9° and then just hit shots like that. Love that little fade on it. Big boy. Yeah, I love that shape. That little fad one. They’re perfect. Yeah, good solid numbers again. I’m just going to hit a bunch more so we can collect some real good evidence and some good data. [Music] That’ll be an interesting one. In my head, I hit that. Horrendous. Wow. That’s done well. I hit that so so badly. Luckily, I got some ball. I got some really good ball speed. Actually, that was 282 carry. And honestly, I thought I’ thought I’d topped it. like that one. 301 carry, 162 ball speed, 113 club head speed, 1,859 spin. I don’t want That’s a That’s a little bit low. Don’t want that any lower. Great launch, great distance, 12 yds offline. It’s It’s very good. It’s very good. Let’s go one more just for a bit of fun. I’m just going to really go at this one just just to see. That was a little bit faster. I don’t know. It feels a very good weight and a great club head size to create speed. I’m just going to go out this one a little bit faster. So, have a bit of fun with it. Oh, I missed it. I missed it. Oh, that was a shame. I tell you what, again, considering I honestly hit that so far from the heel, that carried 295. What? I honestly thought I’ I’d proper mis hit that. That’s That’s really good across the face. Something like that. That’s nice. Oddly not my longest, but very very nice. Right, let’s dive into some data. I had one goal and I failed. My goal was to try and have an average carry distance of 290. I failed miserably. So frustrating. Uh 289 yards of average carry distance. Really, really strong. Really strong. Uh ball speed was 160 mph. Interesting. Club head speed was averaging 112. Fast much faster. spin rate was kind of on that tipping point where if it went any lower, I’d be in trouble, but just over 2,000 is still perfect. Uh, again, this this combination is brilliant. Really really impressed with this lineup. However, when I when I I deep down ask myself, would I put this driver in the bag? For some reason, call me a brand snob, I don’t know what it is, feel like there’s a little bit of hesitation, and I’m not sure why. And I think probably people out there watching might have that little bit of hesitation. I mean, these are great numbers. Maybe I will put it in the bag. I will, but I just don’t feel like I’m going to do. Anyway, very, very impressed. I thought, honestly, I thought these clubs was superb. The whole Tour Edge lineup I’ve been impressed with. Nice new redesign. Looks a bit more modern, kind of catering a bit more for that um stylish golfer rather than this more senior golfer. Numbers there that I’ve just produced that driver are some of the best of the year, guys. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned. 1. Some might think it’s actually cool to go out on the course with something few people have, and then go out there and play great golf. If you like them, nothing else matters right?!

  2. What harm would it do to play with this (LS) for say one month and see what happens. Best driver results you have had for ages and, more importantly, dispersion.

  3. Cobra Darkspeed LS bought custom weights heaviest in the back of club and will never hit another driver again its that good.

  4. I am puzzled by the fact that you have a golf club in your possession, that empirically is the best performing club you have hit, and it's not going in your bag. I promise you if I find a driver, that I can afford, and it decreases my dispersion and adds length it's going in my bag. I don't care if it's hot pink with flamingos on the shaft, I would game it. At a minimum this club deserves an on course try out. Please have Guy run the same test with that max. That you man needs a driver he can keep on the face of the planer.

  5. you have to know how to swing and hit the ball in the sweet spot with force first to get that untapped distance out of us, first. then, any driver is the perfect driver for us. the perfect driver shape allows fairway drives without changing to a 3 or 5 wood 250 yards out.

  6. Rick, if you are not going to put that Max in your bag, may I please borrow it ??…Ta heaps.

  7. We are a Tour Edge dealer as well as many other big name brands and I will tell you first hand for YEARS that Tour Edge products have been criminally underrated and overlooked. I love seeing guys come in for fittings stuck on one brand I will always put a Tour Edge Driver or Fairway wood in their hands and let them hit it and I just stand back and watch the confusion come over them when the Tour Edge stuff performs better for them than their $700.00 Titleists or Callaways.

I will also tell you that one part of their new lineup that’s getting no love is the new Max Hybrid. That hybrid is an absolute rocket ship off the face and it’s so easy to hit. They really have killed it this year with the new branding and new line up. Further, the Wingman wedges are also killer value for the money they feel fantastic. The new 800 series putter they make is also a absolute home run.

  8. I think next time Rick plays, he should put this driver in with his bag with his other driver and give it a chance. It could be another "Old Bluey" that gets in the bag and is hard to beat for years.

  9. IT MUST GO IN THE BAG. DRIVER HAS BEEN YOUR MOST VARIANT CLUB.

You are starting to tune your wedges, now its time… lets get the long ball in the bag.
Master this club, convert about 5-10 pounds of body fat into some lean mass and lets get your carry to 300.

    Next stop, the tour.

  10. What other company backs their products with a lifetime warranty?! Tour Edge makes great equipment that really performs.

  11. I’ve played Exotic Drivers for years. Love their innovative approach. Spend more, if you’d like. However, I’m about results, not brand!

  12. Want to buy tour edge fairway woods but they sell out of lefty clubs and never restock them…..

  13. The admission to brand snobbery not allowing him to put this driver in the bag is fully what is wrong with golf and why it is so expensive to buy new clubs. This driver performed just as well as what Rick has been using this year, if this was a Callaway or TaylorMade, it would be going in the bag. Rick is not alone in this choice, everyone does this and big brands know it. That is why Takomo have done such a good job with their marketing, by getting the clubs in the hands of Bryan Bros, Grant Horvat and Kwon etc, they have got eyes on the product in such a positive way that people are actually buying them. Where as Tour Edge have such a bad history with their products everyone has too many doubts about them and will avoid them.

  14. If there's anything ive learned from these reviews, it is definitely the Indian not the arrow.

  15. Rick, I've enjoyed Your videos for some time. Minor quibble, and maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't give a whit about head covers. To drive home the point, i usually decline or throw them away. I just don't get the concept of head covers keeping my clubs warm (I live in SoCal).

  16. Biggest issue with Tour Edge is you can get last year’s major OEM models for the same price that have loads more tech and R&D behind them. No knock to TE themselves but their pricing structure puts them in a tricky spot when trying to compete against both the D2C and preowned market simultaneously.

  17. The key to hit far is to get 110 mph swing speed like Rick Shiels .Most people cannot reach this level
