[Music] go. A ladies European tour season that started in Morocco in February reaches its conclusion this week in the Spanish sunshine. A 2026 campaign that has brought us so many twists and turns, so many wonderful stories with one more chapter. 75 players teeing it up at the Anderuthia Costa del Open Espña with much still on the line. [Music] That is an incredible golf shot. [Applause] That’s pretty good. Hitches, releases, and in for a one. When you’re hot, you’re hot. BB Rose, have a year. Singapore’s finest has done it again. Shannon Tan wins her second Ladies European tour title. It was a boring golf today. Shannon Road. Graduation day roads on central pace and finds the middle of the cup. We have a new leader to saganda for the second time is the Spanish open champion. Hello. Welcome along to the opening round of the Anderia Costa del Soul Opened Spa presented by Oo the final event of the ladies European tour season. We’ve had 10 months of top class golf concluding here at Rail Guadorth Club to golf in Malaga in the south of Spain. A layout redesigned by honorary member Miguel Angel Jimenez. This is the 23rd edition of the Spanish Open on the LE calendar and the weather is set fair the whole week. Sunny conditions, temperatures in the 60s, degrees, Fahrenheit, just what we wanted really. And I’m Richard Kaufman. Alongside me, as she has bravely been throughout the 2025 season, is former Spanish Open runner up Sophie Walker. Sophie off the loot, final lap of the year. So, who’s it going to be? Shannon Tan or Mimi Rhodess. Well, it’s great that it has come to this today. They are going to be playing together. Here is Shannon Tan. She’s had the better second half of the season to lead the ladies European tour order of merit. Emi Rose had those three wins over spring that shot her to the top of the order of merit. She’s already won the rookie of the year. Both of them have had wonderful seasons, but Shannon Tan so consistent and Mimi Roads needs that top three. But right now, head-to-head, they’re both going to be thinking, if I can win the tournament, it might take care of itself. And I think you spoke to me earlier about this, are kind of fremies out there today as well. They have. They’ve become friends because of their success this year playing together in practice rounds and tournament rounds. So, there was plenty of smiles in the buildup, but it’s all down to business now. Well, let’s just remind you how things look on the order. America, just under 220 points between them. That means the minimum that Roads needs is to get a top three finish if she has any ambition of winning these rankings. As long as Shannon Tan finishes level or better with the English player, she’ll basically claim the order of merit for the first time for a player from Singapore. And there’s a lot else to play for as well. bonus pool money of €150,000 euro for the top three and a trip to LPJQ score for anyone who finishes inside the top 10. And those uh T-shots we saw early on they took place 12 local time just gone 2:00 this first. Roads making the first move. She birded the first. Shannon Tan boged it. Two shots swing. Yeah, Shannon Tan, you mentioned Bogey the first. She did birdie three but dropped a shot at five. Splashed out of the bunker here at six. That was for birdie for Mimi Road. She goes to two under park. And I mentioned Shannon Tan coming out of the bunker struggling at the start and another dropped shot. So Mimi Rhodess with the start she wanted. Shannon Tan with a bit of a nervy beginning to round one. Let’s go ahead and look at Smelia Sonibu. That was her birdie there on 11. She birded 10. Currently four under par for her round. Talking of four under par. Luna Sabbron Gal starting the week 20th on the order of merit. Basically she has to win to get inside that top 10. try and get her LPJ tour card back out in 32 for underpar as well. Treat Chinglab has done this before. Rookie of the year, Order of Merit winner. And what a start to her campaign today. She birded the 11th pole. And a couple more birdies on 15 and 16. And this from right to left in for another birdie. She’s added one more as well at the third hole. So she has got herself to five under. And this just a moment or two ago. The player with the target on their back, Ancha Utama. One birdie, one bogey. So far today, this at 18. A much needed eagle. She’s on the bubble at the moment. That top 70 on the ladies European tour order of merit. That gets her back inside it. [Music] Yeah, what a moment for Anza Utama, the 34 year old from Thailand. So she goes to two under and Trichat Chinglab has just added another birdie at the par five fourth hole. So she is two clear at six under par. Nastasia Nadau ninth on the rankings. Came into the week with a bit of a bad back. Three birdies in an eagle in the first seven holes. four under par. Beware the injured golfer as they say. So many players with so many different targets to try and achieve. Sarah Kemp there the veteran Australia one of those who is just outside the top 70. Nuria Turoth one of the season’s champions there couple under. So let’s join the final group. This is at the par 57 just off the green in two. Well, I mentioned how consistent Shannon Tan is. She’s top at Greens and Regulation at 85% on tour. Has barely found one this front nine. This is a chip here for Eagle, though. Chance to make amends. The Tan Famous Click coming in good there. So, she’ll be hoping to tap that one in. But I didn’t think I would be seeing so many birdies and bogeies from the Singaporean. But, you know, there’s a pressure, isn’t there? Winning this is monumental. Yeah, no surprise really to see some early nerves. Hope she knocks that in and gets herself back to level par. Second year in a row. We’re at this rail guard or club de Golf. Here is the leader at the par three fifth hole. Trichate Ching. This one plays miles up the hill. It’s 141 yds. Plays more like 156 yds. And that is brilliant. She will not be able to see how good a shot that is. Well, she’s kind of picking up where she left off in China where she finished second to Racin Leo. Kind of a home game for Mimi Roads this week. It is. Mimi lives down in Sutter Grande with a mom and dad. Plays all her golf down this side of the coast and is one of the few players that has played this course many a times in her junior days. Whereas Luna Sbron may be Spanish, but she uh comes from Morca. We saw that approach shot at nine that led to a birdie. So out in 32 from one of the most consistent performers on the ladies European tour the last couple of years. Yeah, she’s our hedge choy of the LPGA. This is Luna Sabbron’s top 10, but hasn’t managed to get a win. Tough lap to get close to. Just take it slightly left of it. It’s on a small plateau and then it runs away to the right hand side. Needs to be pinpoint accurate here. Let that one dance around. Settle. Yeah, threatened to get on the wrong level, but as it is, the slope took it back a little closer again. So, another good look for her to try and get within one. 18 under par was the winning score last year. Conditions similar for 2025. They are slightly cooler. I think you got to keep an eye on the wind on Sunday. It’s due to get up to be quite strong. Here is the defending champion looking to try and get into the red. One bogey, one birdie is what Carlotta Saganda has to show for her efforts so far. looking to be the first player to ever win this event three times. Yeah, a Spanish open Moth is also on that and she is three under par right now. She’s just birded the eighth hole to get to minus three. So AA and Carlotta with a little bit of a Spanish jewel there, aren’t they? To become the first to number three. And and we have to make it clear that there’s almost two events going on here. It’s the Spanish Open as well as trying to win the Order of Merit. Slightly different than what other tours have. The season finale here on the Ladies European tour. Hardly a cloud in the sky. Now, Penon in Malaga, the uh Montes de Malaga as it’s known as well, the mountains here, very close to the airport. So you will hear one or two airplanes, but second birdie of the day to go with those uh bogeies, Shannon Tan up and down round, just a one par. I mean, this is a player that can come off a golf course and hit all 18 greens and all 18 fairways and not even be impressed with it. Say, I I do that, you know, five, six times a year. She calls it boring golf. It’s not been a boring start. No, it’s quite unnerving, but the fact that she’s now got back to level par, that will be huge for Shannon Tan. Yeah, Mimi Roads two under par. And these are the players going best so far. Trish Chinglab who led going into the final round of the Aramco China Championship, the last event on the ladies European tour, finished second in the end. got a chance to get to seven under in a moment. Smeila Sonibu, the 2023 KPMG Women’s Irish Open Champion alongside Luna Sabbron at four under. What a start from Nastasia Nadau. Ninth on the rankings. So, a little bit of pressure, but she’s come out with three birdies in an eagle early on. A look down at the ninth hole and down on the tea here at eight is Shannon Tan has grabbed the honor back 402 yds downwind par four. It’s a straightaway T-shot really, but the the green is heavily sloping from back to front. That does count as another missed fairway for Shannon Chan. Simon Cor from Northern Ireland. Her caddy. It’s kind of, you know, Shannon’s got it all to lose now. Mimi with everything to gain. You mentioned earlier, uh, she’s already wrapped up the Rookie of the Year, the first English woman to do that since Charlie Hull 12 years ago. I mean, she said she didn’t get to this point in her wildest dreams her first year on tour. No doubt this player wants to be a world number one, but to have a year like she’s had, it even took roads by surprise. Fluid goal swing there by Roads. And all those wins came so early. It’s gone miles. Yeah. I mean, one week she’s playing in Saudi on an invite alongside Carl to Zaganda. The next week she’s flying to Australia. picks up a win and the way she front runned me most about roads for birdie number seven of the day for Trichat Chinglab says she made friends with her swing again didn’t she in China there’s a confidence back for the number one player two years ago And here’s another former number one on the ladies European tour rankings. Yeah. You know, when Carlott Zaganda wins rookie of the year and the number one on the order of merit, we were saying, “Oh, wow. That never happens.” It’s only Laura Davis that’s ever done that. And then since then, there’s been multiple players to do that. Yeah. Yimi is looking to become the sixth in the last seven seasons and she’s got to finish above Shannon. Try and get herself on this page of the leaderboard. So no birdie at that par three for Trichat Chinlab remains two ahead of Smeila Sonabu Luna Subbron and the oppressive French woman Estnazzi Nadau who’s yet to break through but has come close so many times. Selene Air Van’s last win came down the road from here in Sto Grande 6 years ago, her second ladies European tour title. And look at Anna Huang, 11th on the rankings. She has gone out in 33. The 17-year-old who won the last time in Spain at Lasa Open when she won wire towire is at it again. And there is Mimi Road in that share at two under par. [Music] Well, we’ve been uh talking about it, haven’t we, all week, this duel between Shannon Tan and Mimi Roads. And earlier this week, we sat down with the pair ahead of what is a big week here in the south of Spain to get their views on what is certainly an order of merit showdown. breakdown. When we talked in China when you won the rookie of the year, you said very much that this is something that you’re focused on and that you want to win. Yeah, I mean, of course, it’s been, you know, on my radar since I I got those wins at the start of the year. Um, yeah, I’m not really going to think too much about it. Had a good year, but yeah, it’d be really nice to come out on top. um having having been on top the whole year. I mean yeah definitely mean a lot to me like I mean looking at the list of players that have won the order of merit and of course like Georgia Hall who’s my idol won it 2017 2018 I think. Um but yeah I mean it would mean a lot. You’re both playing in the in the final group of the first two days. How is that going to impact anything? Will it change anything? Um I mean probably subconsciously. I mean, because we’re both thinking about winning the order of merit, but I I think we’ll once we get past the first few holes, we’ll we’ll get back to normal and focus on our own our own game. Um, yeah, we can have some chats. And you, Shannon, how are you going to approach you playing with her? Are you going to be staring her down each hole? I mean, we played together a couple times this year. um and take a few practice rounds together and like I mean we’re friends off the course and like we get along well since I don’t know February this year. Yeah. Um Oh yeah. But yeah, I quite enjoy playing with Mimi and I know be fun out there and I think the most important thing just to be have fun and enjoy yourself out there. Would you say then you’ll be happy for each other if the other one won or is that going a little bit too far? No, I’ll be I’ll be happy. Yeah, I’ll be happy. Yeah. Be honest. Yeah. [Music] Yeah, they’ll be delighted for one each other through gritted teeth. They need to practice on those boxing like hype stairs though, don’t they? Back a little bit. Thanks. Yeah, they’re they’re both quite smiley people, aren’t they? I think Mimi Road said, “There’s no beef between us, is there?” Not yet. No, it’s all good. All good. And they’ve certainly entertained us this season, that’s for sure. Here they are down the eighth. Shannon Tan, another missed fairway from the first cut. 173 yds to this front pin. Well, it did well for her. Did very well. Tan miss strike in that one. Thought it’ come up short. Maybe it’s warming up out there. It was pretty chilly earlier on this morning, but we can see she’s in her shorts and t-shirt, which player from Singapore, you might think surely not. But yeah, all year you see her in her shorts and t-shirt. There’s a couple of greens that are shared. This is one of them. This one is like a horseshoe green between eight and five. This hanging line here for Saganda. This flag is only six on and six from the left hand side. Just a mid iron here though. If it was six iron for Tan. It’s only a nine iron here for Carlotta. Wants to start it at the TV tower and let the lie bleed it from left to right. [Music] Must land this on the green. Anything short might roll down that slope that we see. Nine iron for the Spaniard. Opened up with a 67 last year when she went on to win this title for the second time. Sabbron to get within one. It’s a beautiful leave this uphill left edge. She’s been saying uh the last sort of three four months she feels it’s a matter of time before that first win comes. Feels she’s playing so well. That’s the club, isn’t it? Yeah. I mean, she’s got Alvaro, her boyfriend, carrying for her today. He’s very good at reading green. So, let’s see if we get him involved. Huge drive by roads. And it’s a missed strike, but with such a short club, she can get away with it. Got a downhill right to left put to come for Birdie. Trouble at the night for Nastasia Nadau. This is her fourth shot. Still got 100 yards left in here. Well, she had an eagle at the par five fourth hole. Three birdies as well, but that’s going to be at least one given back there. Here’s the Aramco Houston championship winner. 530 yards this par five. And that is two big hits there. Little pocket rocket, isn’t she, Nur? Look at that. Show me your muscles. Carana, who be heading to Alabama after this one. Another who’s had a few injury wos this year despite playing so well. This ninth hole played the second hardest on the golf course last year. Dog leg from right to left down the hill back into the wind. We’re actually one end of the runway actually borders this course. Another golf course on the other side. So that will be a regular sound and sight. Well, Kuscover will be pleased that she’s in a skirt and a t-shirt. Flew out from Prague on Friday and it was snowing for her. So, Hopey admits hasn’t done too much work before coming back on Friday. Not such a bad thing, is it? Given, you know, it’s a long season and there’s still a big event to come for the likes of Guska after this week. You’re sure right. I mean, if we look at the order of play, it’s set out in order of merit order. So two out the three in this three ball. They will be going to Alabama. Their ticket is nearly booked. Kuska could get knocked out possibly. Darcy Harry out in 33. She’s one of those just outside the top 10 on the rankings. But if she carries on doing that, she may well jump inside. Well, there’s a bonus. It’s a four under par. Suddenly you start thinking, do I need to book a ticket to America? 13th on the rankings. Lauren Walsh, by the way, the Irish player is the one to catch. And Lauren right now is not off to the fastest of starts. Level par through the first eight holes. Such early stages though, you can’t read too much into the scores right now. And this is a 72 hole event. There is no cut. We got a limited field here. Even if you win at the Order of Merit, you do not punch your ticket to the LPGA tour. It just gets you into that Q series final qualifying as it used to be now to get your tour card. This one from the high side will swoop in and dive from left to right. That’s a good couple of cups outside left for Birdie. There goes the click. Well, that’s another little tester coming up for Shannon Tan. Just need to nip this one into the speed bump, have it die, and then roll towards the hole. She was interested, wasn’t she? Yeah, I thought she was going to follow Darcy Harry in there. There’s always a little bounce in the step, isn’t there from Nura. She can use the shadow here of the flag, keep it down the right hand side of it. It’s almost the opposite put here to Shannon Towns. This one from right to left across that step to get to three under park and she does it. What a start by Mimi Roads. Three under through eight holes. Well, if she was looking to put a little bit of pressure on Shannon Tan, she has done just that. And already the excitement begins. She has won round this golf course. You see mom Penny in the background. They’re in matching outfits just shaking her head thinking this year I just don’t want it to end. Are they in matching outfits on purpose? The do unfortunately going to make at least a double here. Well, I don’t you don’t see Mimi in light pink much, do you? So maybe she’s copying her mom, but I doubt she’d want me to say that on television. Carlotta with her old man on the back if you like. He’s not old, but he’s my age. He’s definitely not old, but as in her old caddy. Yeah, Chab. He’s now he’s a lawyer. Very, very clever one. But they are rekindling their youth. They’re best friends from back in North Spain. I think he was on the back when when she won this tournament the first time back in 2021. She likes to have a have on the back when she wins. Having number one this is she can have number two as well sometimes. Look at this one. Oh, I thought she’d thought that one out and executed it as well. It’s only going to be a part for Zaganda. World number 35, the best player in the field, desperately wants to win her home championship back to back. A winner of this year on the LPJ tour. [Music] I mean, it isn’t often, is it, that players win three times on the Ladies European tour in the season and don’t go on and win the rankings. Shannon Tan’s two wins came on really tough golf courses though. You think about the DLF, they play the men’s Indian Open there as well and they played on the DP World Tour at Green Eagle where she won in Hamburg as well. But there is a fourth bogey of this front nine. Can only be pressure because we haven’t seen this really from her all season. Just unforced errors now, isn’t it? A three put there from best part of 30 feet once again with a Mimi Rose birdie just makes her pull further away from her. Yeah, four shots now between them on the leaderboard. This is It by the way, Darcy Harry we saw chip in. It was actually for a par, not a birdie. And it’s going to be a par as well. A very different one for Nura. It’s a good pin that on 10. They’ve they’ve took the pins well on this back nine. You got to hit some quality shots to get it in close. This is a horrible lead for Gainer. Ball Miles above her feet. Downhill. Second shot into nine. Front left trap. 130 yards left for Kuscover. Downwind might play for a jumper out of this first cut. Keep it left of it. [Music] one in Evian at the Java Ladies Open at the end of May and then followed up with a victory on a very next start in Tenneref. Trish Chinglab though of Thailand. Someone who doesn’t really have to worry about order of merits keeping your card trying to get in the top 10. Safely inside the rankings of where she needs to be after that second place finish just three weeks ago. There is Mimi Rhodess right now tied for fifth. So very close to where she needs to be. Good scoring in lovely conditions on day one at Rail Guadorth. And the big surprise I suppose is the number one player on the ranking Shannon Tan amongst those overpar. [Music] So off to the ninth T. 369 yards. You want to take it at the far bunkers in the distance and work a draw off them. They are in play. Douggee came on the bag after Mimi had won some well all of her events actually. Not really quite performed as she would like after the win in June. No, I mean look, Kyota is a player that if you go and ask anybody in the world of women’s golf about how well play a strike a golf ball, she would be in your top five and has been in that top five for over a decade. So, you always feel like she’s underachieving just because of how good a golfer she is. Teeing this one down won’t suit her too much. She’s going to have to really try and force this one around the corner. Yeah, it was her third LPGA Tour title when she won the Maya LPGA Classic, middle of June, her first in 8 and a half years. First on US soil as well. There’s a debate, isn’t there, at the moment on the LPGA tour is, are the courses set up a bit easy? Um, and I think somebody like a Cara Zaganda like Nelly Corner wants them harder and if they do get harder, then she will be up there more often and will be clicking off a few more wins. [Music] Shannon just waiting for the latest uh taking off from Malaga Roto. I’m surprised you’ve not got your radar app. I thought it’s on there. My laptop commentating on what’s landing. Can’t be a bit of plain spotting, can you? Really? We do enough of it, don’t we? Well, not the easiest hole to come to when you’ve already had four bogeies today for Shannon Tam, but I think she’s found the fairway here. Dog leg from right to left. All those bunkers in play down the right hand side. And she has hit the longest and the straightest drive of the bunch. But boy, does she need it. Just three put bogey on that last hole. Mimi Roads increasing her lead to four in front of Shannon Tan and Simon’s got an important job to do there. Her caddy really. It’s early stages. It’s not panic. Up on the green. Gainer wants to keep this high and left. See how it all runs away there. She’s got a busy few weeks coming up. That’s in the hole. Just in the sprinkler. Well, it stopped it at least. Wrong hole. Here is the 2023 champion. Adshock. Created an angle here. Third wedge into this middle right pin. Look out. I can’t believe it. We’ve seen another hold out. A DTR shot. enjoying the Spanish sunshine once again. [Music] Early day one, we’ve seen quite a few spectacular shots. We say how good the conditions are, but we have to give credit to how good the greens are. They’re nice bit of firmness. They’re quick. Just over 11 and a half on the stimp considering we haven’t had the greatest kind of summers. It’s been so dry. Here’s Avajara Munoff for Birdie and she walks it in. Gets herself to four underpar winner of the Spanish Open twice as yeah didn’t te up last year’s heading to LPJQ school. This is her 10th Spanish Open. She’s never finished worse than 22nd some record. Well, this requires some touch and it looks like she’s achieved it here. Kuscover, that’s really well done. To show you, you know, if you get the wrong side of the hole, Shannon three put in on eight. Kuscover there having to be so careful with that approach shot into nine. This is a hole that can really make you come unstuck. Gainer was right off the tea hanging line turned it into the bunker and now has got this one for par free drop out of the sprinkler head. I mentioned she’s got a busy few weeks this season finale. Then she’s got LPJQ school and then a wedding all of the next three weeks. Her wedding. Her wedding. Yes. December the 20th she’ll be marrying Seb. That would have been a good save. I said, “Where are you going on honeymoon?” She said, “I’m fed up of traveling. We’re not going anywhere.” I said, “Wait till January comes.” That dark, dull days. She does a lot of practicing, doesn’t she normally start of the year in Florida? She does, but there’s a lot of players that have marked off. There’s a new event next year on the le in Maitius in May and I think there’s a few of them that might be holidaying there or honeymooning. [Music] Off to the 11th with Nura It. Best place to be here is short left of this flag. Oh, that’s going to come down off the slope. Come on. Oh, lucky. Difficult start to the day for Alice Houston and puts that in for par through a double bogey on the front nine. So one over par right now. She has had three birdies mind you. Champion of 2021 and 2024. does it in her own distinctive way. Never in a hurry. Oh, Carlotta is late for everything. Well, she’s another one getting married soon as well. Yeah. I hope don’t leave James hanging that long. I think it’s the same day, December the 20th. Same as car gainers back home in Pampalona. Good pin for her. We can see the wind just pushing those flags from left to right. 17 on, three from the right. It’s a pitching wedge. Red and yellow of Spain dressed on her golf ball. Looking to hit this one in tight nearly. Yeah, she’ll she’ll want to get going. She’ll know. I mean last year she was 17 under par through the first three days here and then had that little wobble on the Sunday. [Music] Whereas Mimi at the moment’s doing what she needs to do. And we got three players here. Mimi, Shannon, and Carlotta. three names that I don’t think there’s any other golfers that go by that name. Certainly not playing right now. So good. They only need to be using their first names. Mimi with a pitching wedge into nine. Left it under the hole. Another good birdie look coming up. Oh yeah, that’s it. The three wins came in the spell of four starts continues to put the pressure on Shannon Tan. He mentioned that it’s a a difficult hole this. It’s a good drive. It’s set up this pitch and wedge in, but if you miss it right, it will fall away and miss the green. And this flag’s only three from the right hand side. [Music] It’s a good lead. Said that she needed to work on her wedges. Having come in here last year, that was the aspect of a game which she thought needed focus on. Love to hold that put there. Get back to level part through nine. 27th edition of the Spanish Open on the Ladies European tour. Carlos Saganda the winner in 2021 at Los Nanos also here in southern Spain. And then 12 months ago, she managed to win her national title for the second time right here at Royale Guada or 3 years ago. Carlotta Saganda realized a dream by winning her national championship in dominant style. And it’s Spain’s best who’s in the spotlight. Superb. This one sent with pace and finds the middle of the cop. We have a new leader in Carlotta Zaganda all the way. Third birdie of the round. Big player in a big moment. A two-shot leader for the second time is the Spanish open champion. Yeah, she says in this order. There’s the Soulheim Cup, there’s the Majors, and then it’s the Spanish Open. Yeah. I mean, she’s one of only few players um John Ram’s one of them that has won their national championship at every age level from under 13 to professional as an adult. And the cups are all designed the same. They’re just a little smaller at the under 16, 17 level. Another good opportunity missed by Aturio. That’s two holes in a row. Bar five seventh. Smeila Sonibu this to join Tia. I was going to say join Tac Ching at the top. Seline Airban by the way has got to five under pass. She eagled the par five fourth hole. She’s also playing the course the other way round. Everything seeps from left to right here for roads. This hole cut in a small valley on this right hand side. So we’ll be looking a cup outside left. It’s slow. Hold a harder put than this on the eighth. [Music] found the green side bunker chipped up to here. Anna Huang or hold good feelings back in Spain. She won on the east coast between Alakante and Valencia at Laa Open and then won six days later at the uh the French Open as well. She’s not won yet though as a 17y old has she? So she’s peaked. Yeah. So looking down this left hand side, 8:00 on the clock face. Hurry. Good pop. Banging tough there, Shannon Town. What an up and down front nine. That is one par. Four birdies, four bogeies out in 36. Hey, it’s about 150 yard walk from that green to the 10. Simon will be in her ear going, “That was great. We’re back to level par. Let’s go. That’s a birdie as well for Sonibu. So she moves to five under as well. One of the most remarkable wins when she won at Dramodan Castle a few years ago with a playoff win against An Vanam. I know everyone goes on about Anne snapping her driver, but we have to give Sonibu credit. She made Eagle. She shot 62 as well in the final round. Forgot about that. And she did make eagle too in the playoff. [Music] with all her friends and family watching. Come on, Carlotta. Let’s get this party started. Pushed. Might be struggling a little bit with jet lag. Was playing on the final event on the LPGA Tour season in Florida last week. the race to the CME Globe out in Level Park. There’s some really talented Spanish amateurs in the field as well. We got the world number two and the world number three here. Andrea Ralda and Paulo Martin, but both struggling as well early stages at Martine’s at two over part. Rala at one over right now. Yeah, surprising. It might be the jet lag thing again. I mean, if they were at Stamford, that’s West Coast, isn’t it? Where they go to university, and you’d have think, oh, everybody will want to see them, won’t they? All their Spanish family and friends been at college since August. Little bit of tidying up to do here for Mimi Roads. putting through the shadow and struggling to get that line how she would like it. It’s at least right edge. I mean, it’s been some first season rookie of the year, three wins. She was a winning team captain as well in one of the Aramco events. She’s had two holes in one. She’s got the number one play on Sports Center in the USA as well. And that’s a decent front nine as well in what is the last event of the season. Out in 33 under par 2025 is not done yet for the 24 year old English rookie. Three under par leaves three shots behind the order champion from 2023. Trichatching Gladab with a oneshot lead over the French venture in Selen Airban and Smea Sonibu. Both those players are safe as far as their cards concerned inside the top 70 on the order merits where you need to be for that. And Chisa Utama, we saw the hole out at 18. She’s followed it with another birdie. She is the player who starts exactly in 70th place on those rankings. former champion Aditi Ashok amongst those a couple underpart. That’s how it stands right now in southern Spain. [Music] Lexi Fingling there couple underpar at the turn not feeling 100% saying uh she probably needs to put down the clubs for a month get herself recuperated. Helen Breen who is had a super year. Three runner-up finishes but not added to the victory at Lasa last year. Pier Babnik another one that be off to the final stage of LPJQ score. And there are the couple of the amateurs that won over par and Garia the third member of the amateurs here who the champion will win the Celia Bquin award. Leanne Pace, Sophie back in action. It’s been a while. It has. I mean, we’ve not seen her out on tour since the summer. Bit of a a wrist injury for a past winner of this event. [Music] Part five, seventh. And Trish Chinglab has found the greenside bunker in three here. A very narrow green. And it’s it’s pear-shaped. And this one is cut in the top of that. It’ll be quick. Once it gets landed, it’ll run away from her right to left. But she does generate a lot of spin with her pitching and chipping around the green. Come on. That’s gorgeous. Yeah. Delightful touch for Chin Chinglap. struggled for much of the year, not really pushed on since she uh came to southern Spain at the end of 2023. And it was a lot of players in contention that year. I think six players could have won the rankings in the final event, but she managed to keep herself at number one as she was heading into the week. I remember her her watching a DT Ashock from the back of the 18th green there, nervous. It’s when you can’t do anything. So, so at the moment at least Shannon Tan and Mimi Rose they can feel like they can do something about it. Shannon Tan, it’s in her hands. But Mimi has got four days to do something. Whereas it was it was it was awful watching Tree Chat thinking, “Oh, I’ve got to rely on other people to mess up.” And you know, us golfers, we we don’t want that really, you know, but it’s not like other sports where it’s a team or it’s football opposition. We play against everybody in the field. And this is the 27th last stop of the season. Started in Morocco in February. Includes in southern Spain here. This is the 10th hole. And this kind of jewel, isn’t it? Shannon Tan and Mimi Rose. Reminds me a little bit more Sophie of Lin Grant and Maya Stark when it was between those two coming to the final event of the season. Yeah, I suppose so. I mean, it’s the fresh facess I suppose of these two and and the Swedes. They, you know, they were childhood friends. These two have become friends because of their high quality golf this year. But it’s great when it comes down to the last event of the season. It’s dog legs from right to left. 530 yards. It’s a couple of decent driver swings in a row now. Kuscover’s third into this 10th hole. Looks like that one got caught a bit in the grain on these fairways. Just meant the club face stayed closed on her. There’s no angle really from that right hand side. like to hit a draw but avoid the bunkers down the left hand side. They finish at 250. [Music] [Applause] Had a bit of an arm injury. car gainer and not the start she was looking for. No birdies on that front nine. Have to chop the legs off this one. Spin it back. And oh, a lip out there for Eagle. Thought we were going to see another. Did you see Harry’s little dance there? Yeah, he was a jewel. Let me have a little look at that one. That was an awful angle to leave her in, Harry, but she helped you out there. Back on the sea at 10. Saganda more loft will help with the right to left shape here. Looking down the left hand side. It’s okay. Just avoided the tracks. Par five to start the back nine. Nice T- shots from this tri hole that Sophie had a closer look at earlier this week. Welcome to the 10th fairway. And if the front nine was hilly and wide, the back n is flatter but narrower. You will see players hitting less fairways on this back n about 10%. And on this 10th hole, we’ve got bunker down the left. Starts at 220, finishes at 250 yards. And it’s a slight dog leg from right to left. But there’s water over my shoulder there. That is 250 yards away also. So you can opt for 3-wood, lay up short of everything, which means you probably won’t be able to go for this green in two as it’s over 500 yd. But if the wind’s in the correct direction, you hit driver, you can get close to it. But it’s a hole that snakes around bunkers and with water all the way down the right hand side. So even with the second shot, the layup, you want to keep it down the left and it’s a very, very tricky green. It’s a great hold to start this back nine. Yeah. And up on the green is Sarah Kuska looking to try and make the four up and over a speed bump now. Yeah, a couple of players decided not to come this week. Kuscover. Most of the players inside the top 10 are here, but Kiara Tambellini, Cassandra Alexander decided they’d rather go to Alabama first and get themselves ready for LPJQ score. I suppose there’s no right or wrong. There isn’t. Those two players you spoke about, I think Sandra Alexander’s in third spot at the moment on the order of merit. So, she could fall out of the the money position because there’s three lots of money to be for first, second, and third. that they were they couldn’t win the order of merit. Whereas speaking to Sara and Jakob, her cadian boyfriend, there is a possibility that she might not get through to Alabama. It’s a small one, but they weren’t willing to take that chance. Much deserved first birdie of the day for Carana. So close to an eagle. She started the week fifth on the order of merit. She could could possibly go above the aforementioned South African Cassandra Alexander. Started the year with a win celebrates the birdie. Long time coming. Of course, a Diash did she? She uh won the first event of the season in 2023 and then went on won the final event as well. Yeah, we’ve been coming uh to Spain final stop of the season every year since 2018. Before that, we were in Dubai. The last one there in Dubai was won by Angel Yin. That was in 2017. She’s played particularly well second half of the season. It’s been a great turnaround for Alice. She had a top 10 at the Scottish Open which was co-sanctioned with the LPGA tour and then had a handful of top 10s before that winning came second at the Indian Open to Shannon Tan and messed up the final hole in order to do that which is understandable at the DLF Golf and Country Club. That is treacherous that par five, but you really have to credit her for the way she turned it around. She won’t be the last to mess up around that carry player design. Now, Ma going along nicely at four under. So, back to the final three ball. Roads coming out of the right rough here. shouldn’t bother her too much with the layup. See, with those rehearsals, Mimi has a tendency to drag it on the inside and then come down too much on the inside so she can overdraw it. For you guys watching at home, I bet you wish you could do that, too. So, for everyone else that’s watching, they want to swing it on the inside. And Mimi is trying to get it a little bit straighter, even feel like it’s out to win. Oh, that’s not a great strike. Thank you very much. Lovely. Thank you. There’s water down there. You can see that face was open. [Music] Looks nervous. Maybe disappointed. We don’t know yet. Big sigh there. So, has she hit that in the water? Saganda. She can’t get there at two. It’s 260 to the front. So, she’s just looking down the left hand side here at that far Greenside bunker in the distance. There’s no doubt it’s a lot firmer, isn’t it, this year than last year. We didn’t really see too much roll out. That’s got pretty close to the front edge of the green there from Carla Saganda. Maybe that birdie at nine. A nerve settler for Shannan trying to cut this one in. No. on. This is at the ninth hole, final hole of the day for Pier Babnik. There’s level part on the fourth and looking to finish with a birdie here on her final hole. Pass 72. A dewy now for birdie parts if you like. It is a little bit off the green. Back to nine. Anna Foster trying to finish her round in a positive manner. Irish player comfortably inside the top 70. 42nd on the rankings. Was the best place player, wasn’t she, from Ireland at the Irish Open. That no doubt the standout week for her. Did finish top 10 as well at the Indian Open. [Music] Oh, it’s dry. just lucky girl. And who knows how big a difference that cover in line just 15 on is 101. Yeah, we’ve got a decent bit behind it. Okay. A little bit hurt off that list. I think it’s that 105 shot a little bit more. Yeah. I mean, I just don’t know if it’s going to come out higher, but I think it’s fine. I like 108 bit hurt there. 101. There’s 101 to cover, mate. I think we’re slightly out of position. Pass that flag a little is fine. Okay. Yeah. Uh yes depending on waiting limit there still still got six radio flag start. So on the direct line of ball to flag it’s 101 that carries the bunker on that right hand side and the message is long left please Mimi from a caddy dog. [Music] See how it’s going to come out of this thick leaved grass. It can easily grab the club face. Turn it left. That’s exactly where he wanted the lead. It’s unlucky to stay on that high side. If it wasn’t in the rough, it would have spun back down. Keep the speed up. Yeah, she’s done well though. So close to really messing up what had been an excellent start. This is a position though where Shannon Tan can really attack this flag. [Music] You’ve got a small hump before the pin which really does block the golf ball. So you need to carry it all the way here just down that left hand side. [Music] Stop. Pretty good. Nice look at birdie coming up. She’s gone where no one else has been from her country of Singapore. Shannon Tan won her very first start on the league. That was in Kenya at the start of last year. Saw Anna Foster splashing out of the bunker. Irish player looking to save par. Pity been a good day. [Music] Just the second drop shot of the round, a round of 70. Golf course playing just over 6,300 yds. It’s a pass 72 designed originally by a Finn Costi Kurinan and then was redesigned by honorary member Miguel Angel who’s had a pretty decent year himself on the Champions Tour. suits him that tour, doesn’t it? He’s such a good player for so long. He often would come out and support this event when it was more down the coast towards Marba where well I’ve heard he he may may and and his brother’s here this week Victor and there’s a chance I’ve heard that I hope so Miguel may show I’m promising his Ferrari well with his cigar and a glass well as long as he’s not driving a glass of ria somewhere as well hopped in for the putter here two big hits remember it was a fairway wood off the tea 530 yards this is Best part of 75 ft. Take it at the palm tree left of the flag. This one will swing from left to right. Thought about it. Super effort from Saganda. This is at par 57th. Lydia Hall also having a very solid start. Good to see Lydia. Yeah, she’s frustrated with that, but she’s having a a solid campaign. Highlight for her was qualifying at Royal Fourth Court, her home course for the AIG Women’s Open. I mean, she had a fantastic start to her career, then a horrendous fall, bounce back, not quite pushed on this year after really making great strides the year before. It just shows you, you know, the the child superstars that we have in the women’s game, but also how, you know, you just got you got to keep an an eye on them for them because they’re so young. A lot of them will still be going to school like Pia did. You look at Roseang over on the LPGA tour. She won her first event as a pro, but has gone back to Stamford to study. And it’s not easy with all that balancing of golf and and life, especially at such a young age. Wake Forest was where Mimi Roads graduated from. So she’s, you know, been there, done that in terms of college and is trying to go through the levels, start on the ladies European tour, then build her way up to the LPGA tour. This one is just dropping in. It’s so quick. And this one will break heavily from right to left. [Applause] It seems a long time ago, but it was only just over a year ago. She was part of Katrina Matthews Curtis Cup winning team. This is Kim Metro, the Swiss lefty having an excellent day. Got that for a round of 67. getting better all the time. This is the best lead you can get on the 10th hole. Back up the hill, left edge, but it’s going to be a rare par. Just the second of the day. knows exactly what needs doing. You know, some players will say, “I’ll just go out there and do my thing.” But Shannon’s fully aware of what’s required. Sonu second into nine, five under par at the moment. [Music] Tree Chin Club is still at six. Well, you just look at that. You know you’re in Spain, don’t you? Beautiful green and trees. Carlotta is uh not from this part of Spain. She is from Pamplona, further north from here. Quite a distance really. Be heading back home after this for a good few weeks before the wedding day. Make sure everything’s ready. Our hendu and barley is very civilized. I think she might have had one alcoholic drink and packet of wine, meditated, chilled out with Gabby Lopez trying to get things going in this opening round. That’s more like it. Vamos. wasn’t far from here where she starred for team Europe in the Soheim Cup a couple of years ago. Yeah, that’s uh something we’re going to be thinking about as well in the coming months. Soheim Cup off to Bernardas Golf Club next September for the uh 2026 edition after the match between Europe and the USA. Mimi Rhodess I’m sure would love to be part of Anorquist team. And remember if you do win the order of merit on the ladies European tour you’re going to gain access into four of the five majors. So there is a chance to shine on the world stage and she has had a top 20 already in a major in 2025. The only one you miss out on is the first event of the year, the chevron or the first major of the year. [Music] [Applause] Work to be done for Shannon Tan. Just a par there. Say Mimi Roads. Although Roads had a a bit of a fright. Heart would have been a mouth with that second shot heading towards the water. Trichat Chinglab. Smeila Sonibu coming down there. Final hole of the day. Chinglab leading by one right now. [Music] [Music] Just under 400 yds this par 41 11th Couple of bunkers down the right hand side. Do you remember last year? Oh, yes. We’re going to talk about this. Don’t remind Carlotta though. She glitzed it way right. There’s a couple of bunkers that start at 170 and finish at 233. She ended up on the 12th fairway for most of this hole. Made park. Yeah, if you’re with us earlier, we did a little look back at how she won it last year. I didn’t know what was in it. Made it look quite effortless, didn’t it? She was leading by four going into the final round. I think after four holes that leader disappeared and then on the back n she holds some putts. I mean to stay in front of man and do Roy who was really making it close. It was a lot tighter than we expected. Yeah, I think Carlos has got that Rory about her in the sense that she makes the hard look easy and the easy look hard when it comes to golf shots. See how this one bends round from left to right out of bounds. See that cart path on the left hand side? Out of bounds is there just left of it. And we said how firm this golf course is playing. Wind is a touch from right to left. Not the easiest of T-shots really. I start it over the edge of those far right bunkers. Well, it’s another missed fairway for Shannon Tan. This is a player who uh in the season is number one in fairways hit. three shots off the lead. Mimi Rose just 10 holes played in this opening round and the quest is to finish in the top three and beat Shannon Tan in order to win order of merit on the ladies European tour out of bounds left here on 11. See you that hit cart path. Well, she got away with it on the last hole. We shall see what happens here at 11, but after such a super front nine, school got a little ragged so far on the back n this for a 67 for Kim Metro. Had some chances this year. Got herself in front of the PIF London Championship in the final round. She was leading going into the last day at the Czech Ladies Open. Selena Ban just one back. Oh, she hasn’t made a bogey today. Three birdies on her back nine. Eagled the fourth. So, five under the card. Just one back from the leader, Tree Chinglab. Yeah, we talk about all the youngsters, don’t we? She’s in her 40s. Yan Yanni Sang, oldest winner on tour this year at 36. Not so old veterans. Can Sonibu work this equation out? Slider from left to right to tie the lead. Well, the Dane hits the top six underpar. [Music] Player really struggled last season, but has uh had a much better 2025. Looking to win for the second time. Not a drop shot on the card. Two halves of 33. She’s talked about being burnt out, feeling exhausted, even threatened to quit. Asked a few of her coaches, close friends about, you know, what the purpose of her career. Didn’t really hit the highs after that win. Well, after winning the Irish, she pulled out of the Irish the following year with psychological injuries. So, it’s lovely to see her back with a smile on her face. Great round. Five underpar. Well, Sonu in the clubhouse at six underpar. Of course, there’s a lots going on this week. Vying for the number one spot in the order of merit at the Spanish Open this week are Mimi Roads and Shannon Tan. And between them, they’ve notched up five titles. Shannon’s two came in Germany and in India. Mimi Roads taking her titles in Australia, in Africa, in Europe, all over the uh all over the world. Mimi Roads has got lucky here. I think she’s hit that fence and come back in because out of bounds would be three off the tea, wouldn’t it? Well, avoided the water at 10, avoided the out of bounds at 11. You need the brakes. Well, as much as she uh hooked the T-shot, she’s going to need to hook the second shot around all these palm trees because it was straight left, which means she’s going to have Best part of 200 ys to the front edge of this screen. See that prominent tree blocking her straight off this. It’s going to either be a chip out or a raking sevy hook. Let’s do a chip out. She gave you your answer there. Chip out. Yeah. ask Colotta to move cuz she’s heading that way. It’s the correct decision, isn’t it? The lie doesn’t look great and you’re talking about a 50 yard hook that needs to be hit. You probably still won’t get to the green from back 200 y away. Just keep this one low. Make sure you find the fairway. Do not chip it through it. Just just when the ball was in the air off the tea, she’d have taken being there for two. So Sonibu in for a 66. She’s watching as Metro parts for par here and a 68 from Metro. Been a good group that one, hasn’t it? A long thin fairway. Shannon Tan has missed down this left hand side. Same could be said for the green. It’s 38 yd long and at its widest it’s only 15 yd. Got a front right pin which brings all of the bunkers into play. The two on the left and the one on the right. And by the way we are on Miguel Angel Gimenez watch. We mentioned the course designer. He is here and he’s out watching a arun. Oh, two of my favorite golfers. I’ll be back in a minute. You’ll be all right in here nearby, sir. When Miguel maybe can come in here, bring his ria, sit down, have a little chat. Got no smoke detectors in here, have we? You’ll be fine. The windows open. Yeah. Good leave there by Tan. Could not miss that flag right short side herself, especially with roads in trouble. Let’s catch up with our co-leader. Second shot into her final hole of the day. Tree chat chinglab. Oh, half a club chai. Yeah. When we started our season in Morocco at the start of this year and Caragana won, Miguel won the men’s event that was being played there at Royal Golf D Salam that week. He won the trophy Hassan Dur on the Champions Tour. No protection for this pin. A wedge. Oh, she hates it. Her [Music] reaction was that she pulled that one left, but we can see the dance floor is clear. Well, she dodged a bullet, didn’t she? At 10 and here at 11. I’ve just avoided a divot there. That’s a break. Another one. Um, I’d like to ask her for the lottery numbers when she’s done. [Music] You think [Music] She’s got a gap wedge also. It’s a similar type of feel to that last hole where she’s coming across the green. Flag 12 on five from the right. Bit of crosswind from right to left here. Normal circumstances you’d be looking to hit this one inside 20 ft. Best leave would be short left of this pin. It’s a green that slopes from back to front. Oh, wonderful. That is absolutely fantastic. And she’s going to escape with a par again. He’s impressed. We’re impressed. Trisha Jeanlab looking to finish what’s been a fabulous round in style. Oh, I thought she had for a moment. We’re just picking up where she left off. Don’t think she is. And I think the way she finished at China, how good she responded to a disappointing front nine, playing alongside two great Chinese players, got herself inside that top five. And the confidence has moved on here to Spain as we look at her tapping this one in. It’s going to be a bogey free round for Tree Chat Chinglab. Yeah, and don’t forget she was part of the winning team roads as well in China, too. All the work really done on the in those opening 12 holes, but bogey free 66. Excellent performance from the 30-year-old from Thailand. So, it was a pull by Carlotta. Plenty of green to work with. 10 yards, which is a lot on the 11th. Want to look down the left hand side here. Not her best. I think you could say that about this first round as a whole really so far from Carlotta. Little shake of the head. Not quite found her stride yet. Noah Fala in the heart of this 18th fairway. Back right in. The Swede level par for her day. Oh, beautiful shot there. [Music] And that’s what the really good players do, Sophie, don’t they? I mean it’s all very well you know you avoid the water you avoid the out of bounds but to come away it seems without a bogey from these two holes just shows you the mindset of Mimi Roads quite often to you know to make a birdie you need two good shots but to make a par sometimes you only need one and we saw that with that that gap wedge there and she is a player that oozes confidence and belief and that shouldn’t we shouldn’t knock that out of her um in an individual sport. For some reason, we don’t like hearing that from players, but she does. She she works hard, you know, she knows a misses. She knows that left one’s in play. So, it’ be interesting to see how she reacts with the with the T-ball, but she set sets high standards for herself. For me, she was a professional golfer three years ago. She just had to wait to turn pro and finish school. The way she carries herself, there is an aura about Mimi Roads. [Music] It’s got to be the loudest clicking goal, hasn’t it? Shannon Tan, you would almost say Shannon’s a bit of the opposite though, wouldn’t you? the way that she’s shy. She admits like my golfing hero is Georgia Hall. It she shies away from the limelight and it’s her golf which is the the one that kind of shines and is impressive. So when you know the golf is isn’t quite there. Does she have the you know the outer belief that we we don’t see that do we? Hope I’m sure she has the inner belief, but she doesn’t have that presence that Roads does. I mean, look at Mimi there. She probably doesn’t even realize it, but that is like staring at down at Shannon. You saw a little bit when they did that interview together as well. Yeah. You know, we’ll be talking a bit, won’t we? And yeah, she leads, doesn’t she, Amy? Yeah. Different personalities, different games. Both have had fantastic seasons. Well, had less than 100 yards in and has now got this one for pass. Straight through both of her playing partners’ markers and hopefully into the hole. Big save. Big save. Reminds me of Sunday here last year. That kind of pass save from Carlto at this hole. Little fist pump there shows what it means for her. keeps her under par. She’s never outside the top 10 when she comes and plays on the ladies European tour. Sevent time winner Zaganda and wants this. Yeah. 2023 she actually finished 12th in this tournament. Oh yeah. Sorry. It’s the only It’s the only time and she’s now played in 12. This is her 13th Spanish over. the only time she’s been outside the top 10. Birdie finish for Mo Fala around a 71. Another player who’s comfortably just outside the top 30. So comfortably inside where she needs to be as far as the uh rankings are concerned. Top 70 is where you need to be. And just while we watch Shannon Tan knock this in, you know, we talk about the fact that the difference is 219 point something points between them. Oh my goodness. Oh my. A fifth bogey of the round already for Shannon Tan. Well, she three puted eight. She’s now three puted 11. I wonder how many three puts she’s had today as well. I thought that was a formality. I was going to give you Oh, you were chatting away. I was chatting about what the points were and cuz I know people watching that, you know, when I say 219 points, what does that mean? Well, it’s 500 points you get for a win on the uh ladies European tour. Second place gets 320 and third gets 230. That’s why Mimi Rhodess has to finish inside the top three cuz she needs that minimum of 230 points. Although that probably wouldn’t be enough although given what’s happening to Shannon Town right now. You never know. Well, Mimi is three back. She’s inside the top 10 just but still second. Shannon Tan though one over par is in a tie for 47th place. Final hole of the day for Lydia Hall. [Music] Yeah, this ninth hole causes some problems and that is going to be a very tough bunker shot from there. Well, who thought it was going to be Shannon Tan making the bogey here. Not Mimi Rose. Wanged it left off the tea. Should have been out of bounds. It came back in from the fence up and down for four. Oh yeah, got away with one there. Actually, you gained one there. Now, four clear of Shannon. Leading Spaniard is Luna Sabbron Galves. She’s five under. Left pin shortsided herself there. That’s going to be really awkward to get that one up and down. And amongst the trees is Maha Diwi the flight this one. [Music] That’s uh pretty well done from there. Very well done. In fact, her highlight this year came at the Java Ladies Open in Evian. Farewell wood for Carlotta. P five. Wind from left to right. Out of bounds down the left. Bunker down the right. There’s no one behind. Thank you. Oh, when I say, you know, she’s hitting a fairway wood here. This still is scampering 260 down the fairway. She can just flight that down and just bleeds it from left to right. And well, Mimi Roads has just hit it left off 11T with out of bounds left. Yeah, there’s out of bounds left down 12. And it’s tight down 12 as well. This is going to take some mental strength to hit this one where she wants it. Block out the negativity. Well, she’s passed that test. It’s straight and long. Just shows what she’s about, doesn’t it? Here’s another of the feel-good stories of 2025. This time last year, Leon Harm said she’d quit yet. Here she is in the season finale in Spain. Tour card sewn up and currently two off the lead. got that to get within one when all hope is lost. Yeah, she put the clubs away. She went and Caddy, didn’t she in Saudi Arabia in the penultimate event of the season and then met her new coach. She didn’t know she was going to. You can hit a good one, Danny. You can get on this green in two. It’s just been such an unshannike round. Any time I can think of her doing something like this was at Evian as well early this summer in the in the major. Tenneref wasn’t a great final day I think for as well. But that was more putting wos. Yeah. One of the top rookies this year, Kaiser Arafia, another one who played really well in China. Seven rookies, Sophie, in the top 24 of the rankings. It’s been a really good rookie group this year. That there was a demonstration of how to hit a bunker shot by Lydia Hall. from that angle. The way she had her weight on her left hand side, solid base, her follow through. Becky Brewin there, former Order of Merit winner actually, Caddy in I think she would have liked that one. She did like, you saw the smile there from Becky. She knew how good that was. So, we’ve had a couple of 66s from Smeila Sonu and Trichat Chinglab. Selena Airban coming down the last Luna Sabbron in a spot a bother at 15. Then we’ve had drama, haven’t we? And the chase to win the rankings already. And it’s only day one. [Music] There’s a bunch of Spaniards including AAR Muno, two-time champion at three under parade, Mimi Roads, Marta Martin, a winner last year on the tour. So, even though she’s struggling around that top 70 mark on the rankings, her card is safe for next season. Well, a little befuddled by that. Won’t be easy this one for Luna Galves and just trying to get a little too cute with it. Easily done. Hopefully the finishing touches. It was a good shot out of the trees. And that’s a bogey free opening round around Real Guad for Maha Adwi. Considered now one of the veterans on tour. She’s been out here way over a decade. Hopefully going to be 68 as well for the only harm. well where there were youngsters Carlotta Saganda and Mimi Rhodess won around here. Carlotta won the inter club championship with Oama around here when she was 14 years old and Mimi did the same when she was 12 for Laada. [Music] It’s another gorgeous afternoon on the southern coast of Spain. We’re in Malaga at Rail Guadorth Club the Golf. Second year in a row hosting the ladies European tour finale on the 12th hole. Final three ball. Carlotta Zaganda is going to be first to play. Can reach this par five 498 yds. The discussion is is it going to be a forward or a seven? He’s got about 220 to the front. This discussion’s been going on a while now. Still not got a club in a hand. Maybe the greens occupied ahead. Jeffy’s got that four iron now. [Music] Not her usual caddy. Caddy for her in her youth, but it’s more of a family friend now. So maybe that’s why they’re having a little bit of chat. Yeah, just to say Carla, not being slow there. There are actually people up on the green, so I think we should point that out. Here’s Kaiser Afield to get within one. Started the season really strongly and looks like she’s going to end the season in a similar vein. Kaiser [Music] A sad safety finish round of 69. It was a big year for her. She knew the uh the women’s open was at Raw fourth core where she grew up and played and she was desperate to be there. Her dream came true. 68 for Leon Niha the German. Nice finish there. Two birdies in her last three holes. Well, the four iron’s been put away, which suggests we’ve now got seven wood. I mean, this could not settle better for Zaganda. loves to hit this from left to right. It’s a very small target though around those palm trees. It’s in that front bunker. That’s okay. Front right bunker’s good there. Yep. Similar equation here for Shannon Tan. She’s got a fivewood. That ball looks like it’s sat in an old divot. So, we’ll have to hit down on this. Aiming left. Looking for a a cut shot. The shapes there is the distance also in the bunker to try and stay at five under par here. Luna Subbron hasn’t dropped a shot yet today. Oh, what a save. Brilliant up and down. Another Spaniard, by the way, has got to five under par. That’s Martr Martin who is eagled the fourth hole. So, a couple of Spaniards now in close contention of the clubhouse leaders. Third to go here, Mimi Roads. Hybrid. She’s got 20 five yards front. Oh, it’s missed all of the woodwork down the right hand side. Can we say high? Can we say she got away with it again? Yeah, the fact it didn’t clatter anything, but this is a a raised green, so that’s not going to be an easy up and down. She’s got about six yards of green to work with. But if it have hit one of those palm trees, it could have gone anywhere. A little ragged at the moment from Mimi Roads. Selen Airban closing hole. She can find a birdie. She could join Sonibu and Chinglab with a 66. Settle. Well, I’m sure you’re aware if you’ve been watching us over the last couple of hours that these two are vying for the number one spot on the order this Spanish Open this week. There is Shannon Tan and along with Mimi Roads there. Five wins between them this season. Wonderful goal shot controlled there by Tan. [Music] What a shot from Mimi Roads. Down to this. Roads are stolen no more. It’s graduation day for Mimi Roads. Shannon Tan, Singapore’s finest, has done it again. [Music] [Applause] Well, this victory to Shannon Tan means she goes top of the Order of Merit now. And it’s sealed with a kiss. [Applause] The 21-year-old Shannon Tan is in the lead of this order of merit at the moment, but is struggling with her game at present here in Spain. She’s getting chased down by the 23year-old from Bath, Mimi Roads. playing together in this final event of the year, the Open Despa alongside Carlotta Zaganda, the queen of Spain. It’s par five, 12th. Both Tan and Zaganda are in this front right bunker. As mentioned, it’s not a bad leave. pins cut on a a plateau on that right hand side. Just playing straight up the hill here. Hit a poor shot on 11 out of the bunker. I do not expect her to do the same here. Nearly. Chantan also in this green side bunker. She’s coming from the ups slope and a little bit more down this right hand side than Carlotta. So there won’t be as steep a slope to hit into. But in order to get this close, she needs to carry it within a yard of the hole. It’s caught in a three yard radius, this cup. Anything short, left, right, through will just run away, gather further away from the hole. touch. Really good shot that spoke to Lisa Patterson yesterday. Here she is four under par. Interesting position for players like Lisa who can’t get top 10 of the order. can’t lose their car and she says it’s just a free hit. Go out there and be aggressive. Try and win the tournament. That’s that’s all there is to do really. A lot of money as well. 700,000 prize fund over 100,000 to the winner and at 4 under park. She’s only a couple back. 28th on the rankings. There is top 15 of the order merit if you base it on last year gets you into the AIG Women’s Open. So there is that little carrot dangling as well. But a lot of players with greater stress than the likes of Lisa Pettison, especially, you know, there’s no cut this week either. No. Wish all events were like this. Might still be playing. Well, you were the Were you run up? What year were you runner up here at the Spanish Open? As it lower. Oh, I don’t know. Let’s not bring that up. 2017. Yeah. Cuz look, worst case if it goes past the flag, it’s fine. See that landing spot? Nice and still there for me. You see how bare it is around this green. So, what she’s going to do is make this more upright. So, she’s going to almost lift the heel off the ground. It’s going to come out low. A chip and run. Bit of a scrappy lie, wasn’t it? And it was almost like she turned it into a chip and should have had it a little bit straighter back, straighter through. So trouble for roads. Big part that I feel at the last for Luna Sabbron just kept the momentum going in this round. That needs to sit down though. So she goes again Mimi Roads at this par five. You can see the slope. Just be looking at landing it still in the shadows. It’s be a slightly straighter face club than what she would normally hit just because she hitting into the ups slope. needs to get this one inside Shannon Tan’s ball marker. Oh dear. Coming back to her feet at best. Bye-bye. Oh dear. Well, you were saying that she was getting lucky. It’s getting unlucky now. out on the course yesterday speaking to one of the players, Sarah Kemp, she said, “You’d be surprised how bare it looks at how grainy the grass is. That second chip, the club grabbed into the grass. This is unnerving for Roads right now.” Well, she’s almost back to where she started two shots ago. Yeah, but now playing five. I still got a lot like a a lofted wedge in a hand. I’d be getting that out of a hand right now. Is it worth using a putter here given what’s happened? Or like a little hybrid maybe. Yeah. I mean, just pass it. It’s all right you saying that, doggy. This is going past the hole. You know, she can’t afford to douff this one. Go down over the top and down the slope. [Music] Well, this is uh another little twist in this season finale in the battle to win the rankings. on your next 100 yards for a fuel. Trying to use that back stop. Hopefully last shot of the day for Seline Arban. French player, but she is spent much of her career based in Spain. Used to be coached actually by one of the Bay Steros brothers. 67 for Ban. So one back all going on here though. Some nice sportsmanship here by Carlotta opting to play out a turn while Mimi Rose lines up a P. I want a wiggle from left to right as it gets towards the hole. Well, turning an average day potentially into a pretty decent one. Gets to two under. Yeah, she I think handed out the full amount of tickets available to her this week, Carlos. A lot of friends and family out there cheering her on. Wasn’t an easy read that one from the front edge of 16 for Luna Sabbron. So this is a bogey putt now for Mimi Roads. Very slow. Oh, not that slow. Don’t go off the green. That’s off the green. I don’t believe what I’m seeing. She’s back where she was in two, but now she’s there in six. And her order of merit chances are unraveling right in front of our eyes. Yeah. Go and take a breath. We’ve just been waxing lyrical about her fortitude and how confident she is. But I mean, she has just zigzagged across this 12th green. And now Shannon Tan stands over this 4-footer for Birdie. She’s watched it all happen as she gets herself back to level par. And in a moment, having started this hole, four shots behind Mimi Rose, she could end up ahead of her here. Tan looks in shock as well is what she’s just seen. Imagine what Mimi’s feeling. Oh, only needed hitting there Kaiser to get to five under. Sonibu and Chinlab sit at six under part like them. She’s bogey free. The drama continues at 12. Shot seven now for Rose. [Music] Well, what do you do next? Not what she just did. I mean, it’s like deja vu, isn’t it? She’s played that shot three times. I mean, look at her. She is devastated. The wind is very much out of the sails of roads. She won’t be able to feel anything right now. It’s like an out of body experience. Yeah, good two from down there. So, it stays five under. But back to where the real drama is at right now. We’re keeping count. Shot eight. I mean, Douggee looks like he’s feeling helpless, but I reckon Mimi will be feeling like that as well. We’re not guaranteed to finish this hole in single figures. [Music] had to finish top three to have any chance of winning the rankings. And she’s going to walk off with a quadruple bogey at best and head to the 13th at one over par. It’s all gone wrong at this par five for roads. She’s coming 10th at three under par. That was 10 minutes ago. One hole. One hole doesn’t I suppose you can affect a season, but it kind of feels like it right now. Well, it does. It affects the culmination of it. I suppose you can only ride your luck for so long. Let’s hope it’s a nine. [Music] It is a nine, but it’s a bitter body blow in her order aspirations. How do you recover from that? [Applause] Very kind. The Spanish fans there cheering her on. I imagine there’ll be a few people from Sauta Grande, but it sounded like the Saganda family that was there trying to give us some motivation. What have we just seen? Mimi Roads a nine on a par five. And suddenly from being on the fringes of those leaders, she’s now a long way away. 66 the score of the day from Sonibu and Chinglab. [Music] And in the scheme of things, Sophie, she’s what, one over par, so she’s only seven shots back. There’s a lot of golf to play, but it’s How do you respond and recover from that? I mean, towards the end of this round, I mean, if she can shoot level par now, I think she’d gratefully receive it. Yeah. Um I was speaking to her mom before she went out and she said, “We’re wondering if to go home tonight down back to Sasha Grande, but it’s an hour away and she’ll be going there after this.” Like there’s no doubt they’re going to go home and and regroup as such. But I just think that’s the shame of golf, isn’t it? Sometimes where like one bad hole, if it’s match play, you can just get it done. And people say you can get it back. Jamie Spence, who commentates on the DP World Tour, said to me once, “Sophie, you never get it back.” And she is gonna have to dig deep now. She just looks like there was there was a little bit of hope of her winning the Order of Merit. You know, she knows how good Shannon Tan is. It looks like that hope is gone now. But we know what golf is like. The golfing gods can be so cruel, but yet the amazing things can happen. You know, she could eagle the next, but these next six holes, this is it for Mimi Rose now. She has got to do something. And like you say, she’s got to get back to level par. Well, Saganda best placed of this trio now. Two under threeth over the water. Yes. One in there. Tighter. Whenever I see a par three in Spain, I always think back to that Solheim Cup. Think of Cortisane. The winning shot to retain by Royal Command, wasn’t it? It’s only five off the back edge of this. Oh, where we uh saw an ace here last year from Nura Turoth Shannon Tan now you feel in command of things as far as the rankings is concerned and that will do no harm either. Excellent shot. This flag just five off the back edge. It’s only 20 yards deep. This green on 13. She has got to be shell shocked. We talked earlier about the mental strengths of Mimi Rose. They’re going to be tested to their fall after what just happened at 12 7i. Wind helping from right to left. Okay, Pinhive. That’s not going to be an easy two put over a ridge which blocks her path between ball and flag. She wants the ground to gobble up. Well, the look said it all really. Similar hole this 17 played one of the hardest holes on the golf course last year. 171. See, having to hit an hybrid in there. Similar in the sense it’s over the water and it runs parallel to that 13th hole. But it’s lovely to be in Malaga. Sunshine all the way and these the players who have performed best so far on day one at this and Costa del Soul opened at Espña. Let’s hear from one of the leaders Smeila Sonibu. Very well played out there today. Long way to go but nevertheless six under sees you up there in the lead. Tell me about your your opening day here. It was very nice. I um yeah, I made a deal with Miku, my boyfriend, in the morning that uh we’re going to shoot around the same score or he told me, “Let’s shoot around the same score.” And I was like, “Well, I’m going to shoot six under, so you have to keep up.” And uh yeah, had the birdie put on the less. I was like, “I have to hold this one now.” So, one of these days. Yeah. And pretty much mistake free as well. Not a single bogey on the card, which I know for golfers is as good as the birdies. Oh, yeah. I didn’t even think about it. But, uh yeah, I mean the putts were just dropping today, so it was uh Yeah. Don’t be free. And we know what a good player you are. Obviously, we’ve seen you you win in Ireland. You’ve been through your struggles since. How are you overall do you feel with your game and mentalitywise at this point in time? I feel like I’m in a pretty solid place right now and has been the whole year actually. I’ve got a really good team around me and like settled in a nice place I feel like. So, it’s very nice. Yeah. Because your talent’s never been in doubt, has it? just putting everything together. And that is something for viewers who watch golf or people outside it, we don’t see that side of the game. We only see you on the course, but all that stuff off the course is is just as important, isn’t it? Yeah. Actually, I so I made a plan with my mental coach this year that uh the word of the year is to be strong. Um and it’s like I’ll just Yeah. So, you know, be strong in all parts of my game and my life. So just been focusing a lot of like diet and like strength this year. So um yeah, it’s been paid off now in the end. Yeah. Let’s hope he’s watching today. Well done. Great start. Thank you. Thanks. Yeah. Excellent opening round from Smeila Sonu 66 which has been matched by Trichat Chinglab. It’s Alice Houston looking to get it back to level part and does so. winner of the Swiss ladies open in the summer. And just to clarify, she was talking about her boyfriend there, Miko, who’s caddying for Mimoka Kabori this week. Mimoka actually two over par. So Smeila lived up to her side of the bargain at least with her six under. You said not an straightforward putt this for roads. I can see why. That’s a good interview, wasn’t it? The way Edgar said, “Your talent was never in doubt.” And she went, “No.” Yeah. Yeah. No, that’s not that wasn’t the issue. And then how openly Smelia spoke about mental struggles and how you can deal with it. First of all, you got to acknowledge it and then find a way of getting around it. I quite like that word strong. Yeah. Smileer is Danish for smile. And sometimes you can put on the smile, can’t you? The facade, but inside it’s difficult to know what necessarily is going on. And you know, players do find it’s a struggle. It can be a lonely lonely game out on tour. You think you should be living the dream, but sometimes it’s not always like that. Anyway, back to Shannon Tan who’s looking for backto- back birdies here to get to one under. This is about a cup outside left. [Music] Backto back birdies for Shannon Tan. Good things come to those that wait. So, what’s that? Five bogeies, six birdies today. Boring golf, she says she plays. Well, that’s two pars only so far. Says birdie putt, but I don’t think we should really call this a birdie putt. Come on down. The price is right. I mean, she made a great up and down at 15. Good two pound at 16. Would be an even better one here at 17. Making hard work of things right now. Luna Sabbron hanging tough whereas Saganda has got this for another this to get to three under. [Music] Seven irons into here. This one an inch from right to left for a two. There’s her dad. Guess who’s swatching on? He’s in the purple trousers. Yeah, he’s got lots of family that live down here down at Estapona. They’ve got a family home and they’re all out in force. They’re getting the train down from Pampalona. That was a chance, wasn’t it? Back to 17. Kaiser Arfel and so we learned this year about her former what? skipping champion, world champion. Okay. Not sure we’re going to see a smile, but at least there’s uh no more damage. Well, there he is. The mechanic as he was fondly known. What a year he’s had, by the way. Miguel Angelneith. Four wins this year on the Champions Tour. Still going strong. Nicely rolled in there from Carana who’s fighting back after a slow start. Gets herself back to level par. Well done. That’s kept the bogey off the card yet again for Luna Sabbron. That par there on 17. She’s hanging tough. Here’s another Spaniard like Saganda looking to win this event for the third time. Got off to a birdie birdie start today. Three under par right now. Feel like I’m watching Teletubbies right now. Yep. stays within two. There’s Kaiser. We got bunkers down the right hand side, but if you tweak it down the left, you could be blocked out by those palm trees. At 270, we do have a front right pin. Wind down off the right. [Applause] That’s a huge drive. Nearly 300 yards. It’s nice to see the ball roll back home in Britain. We’ve had nothing but rain recently. course is closed. Well, it is known as the costel saw around here. We have had a lot of wind though in the Monday, Tuesday and last week. I was speaking to people that live around here, the locals. They say you get about 20 days of year a year of really strong winds and they they’re hoping they’ve had enough of that now. So, we’re basically finishing on the flag. Yeah. Cool. Maybe 10 foot. straight down back towards the clubhouse here at 14. [Applause] It’s kind of ironic, isn’t it? You know, we we you talked about the importance of that T-shot at 12 and she nailed it. Yeah. Look, Mimi’s fault is she drops it under plane, which means that the club comes stuck behind her on the way down like it’s going to I don’t want to say hit her right foot, but that means it can you can lose it to the right if you keep the face open or if you flip it, it goes left. And it’s something, you know, she knows that bias and she’s forever trying to manage it and under pressure situations it can come out and we saw it on 11 and 12. Well, here’s the uh first page of the leaderboard and no one really on that first pages in much of the shakeup really. You think about top 10 on the order of merit, top three trying to keep your card, everyone here safe as far as the card is concerned. Amaya Lau is only in the field like Avar Muno on as an invite. So they can’t get the points for the auto merit. The only way Amaya Lau can get a ladies European tour card is by winning Lore. There’s Carla Saganda climbing the leaderboard now just outside the top 10. the defending champion [Music] Nuros there at two under par. There’s Lauren Walsh. She’s the player who is 10th on the ranking. So, one underpass. Solid. Leading amateur right now is Andrea Raalta. and Juan got off to such a good start. 30 the first three holes but back to level par now. [Music] Arian Clots there one over par. She is the she was the last player in the field off the rankings just outside the top 80. So not quite doing what she wants. S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S Sarah Kemp got off to a good start, but back to one over now. Anna Palith Trevino in a vulnerable position, 68th on the rankings, 75 from her. Not what we expected. 75 players in the field. Laura Funuk and Sarah Kuskava amongst the winners this season on tour but struggling here today in this opening round of the Ander Luthia Costa del Soul opened Espña presented by OA and Anna Palino has just dropped to 70th on the order of merit after that round. Two under power right now. Nura iturio. This is put low. It gets rather quick on you. So I’ll be looking to hit this meter from right to left. Keep leading. Final three ball on 1410. A front right flag here. It’s only four yards on most. Well, there’s the view that shows you what Mimi Rose has to do. Try and turn this one around. Only a slight draw though needed. 124 yards. That pin’s on the right. It’ have been big problems if it had been cut down the left hand side. Just use it like a walnut football there. Draw it round. [Music] I missed the green from 100 yards on the 11th. He’s got that same number here. 96 is the front edge. Wants to take this left of the pin. It’s only five off the right hand side. Wind down from right to left. [Music] Little left to right in this one for Darcy Harry to try and get to four under Camille Shabalier. This is her on the par five seventh hole. Third shot. She’s had a superb front line. Four birdies. I was mentioning earlier how Anna Wang started this round really well. He’s had some setbacks, but trying to get some positivity back in this round. gets to one under. She requires special dispensation from the LPGA tour. If she is to tear it up at Q school next week, we’re waiting for confirmation. She has applied again. So, if she finishes top 10, can she play in it? Cuz she’s too young as things stand without that special dispensation. It’s something you don’t have on the men’s golf age limits. the LPGA, you need to be 18 before you can tee up. So, I suppose if she was 18 in kind of January, February, would that make a difference? I know it does on the le obviously she’s not 18 till the end of next year. She’s just turned 17 literally in the last few weeks. Quite fancy this one. Shannon Tan, she just made two birdies. skipped over the bunker on 18. Break for the Swede. This is her second back right pin. Stop. 400. Well, there are a couple of clouds around, but not too many. Gorgeous afternoon. Temperatures around sort of 17 18° Celsius. About 66 Fahrenheit. 66 the number in terms of lead in the way. Saganda not the best of seconds in but still got putter in hand. Not a load of movement in this one. Maybe a touch from right to left. That’s how it’s going to react here. Uphill rolling through a few yards of fringe. [Music] love to give herself a good birdie look after a few holes where she’s had to dig deep here. Unbron that’ll be a popular spot short of it on the 18th hole. It’s a bank two-tier green to sense Mario having a poor day. at the moment tied for last place. [Music] Nothing to cheer her up, is there? After the nine at 12, couple of pars for Mimi Roads. Wouldn’t be asking her for an interview after this round. But you build it up. We’ve built it up. Yeah. It’s the story, isn’t it? Totally understandable why she’s looking the way she is. You know that start that she had. She thought, “Hang on, this is on. This is I could win the order of merit here and it just came crashing down in one one hole. Yeah, conscious people are joining us all the time. So, par five, 12th. Green side in two made nine. Shannon Tan now two shots ahead of her. Tan if she finishes ahead or even level with Mimi Roads, wherever they are on the leaderboard, Tan will win the order of merit. So, as things stand, that will be the case. Carto Saganda. She’s looking to become the first player to win the Spanish Open three times. Not beaten necessarily at her best, but after that bogey start, two underpar. Nothing wrong with that. Back to the par five seventh hole. Martin a chance to tie the lead. Winner in Czecha last year. Her first win on the ladies European tour. bit of style to the day and he got on the card as well. All smiles. Now when a DT Ashock hold out on the 10th hole, Miguel Angel Gimenez is in the crowd watching on. [Music] This one might get close using the slope. [Applause] 171 got a tap in Birdieput for a past champion. Saw the approach from Shiovalier. So no fifth birdie of this front night for the former Indian Open champion four 15th hole with Shannon Tan long straight. Only real issue was out of bounds right being a lot steadier on this back nine for Shannon Tan. see a bunker on the left hand side. It’s 238 to carry that. The flag is on that left hand side. So the leave would be right half of the fairway here. You need to cover it. [Music] Oh, he’s out of bounds. Right, he’s kicked back. It’s out the bush and back into play. But he thinks that’s gone. Yeah, it’s been a torid spell really for much of this back nine, but it could have been a whole lot worse. She’s reloading here because she isn’t aware as you say, but think about what happened at 10. She could have gone in the water. She could have gone out of bounds at 11 and right there she could have been stuck in the bushes. Ashok to get to three under finished 16th here last year in the defense of her title, but she hadn’t played really in any events for what eight nine weeks coming into this event. It was only uh just 2 years or so ago. We were not far from here at Fina Cortisin for the Soheim Cup. We’ll be back in Europe in the Netherlands at Bernard Golf. And this is how things look right now as far as Ananorqua’s team is concerned. Carlusandanda is the next best player in the world ranking. So might be some changes to that team. Don’t you think Sophie? I mean think about players like Anna Norquist has played in what seven Soulheim Cups. Leona Magguire, Georgia Hall now both outside the top 100 in the world. Emily Pedison’s played in the last four. True. Um, Carlott’s in. No questions. She’ll get a pick. Uh, and I believe Leona Magguire will as well, but there definitely going to be a couple of changes in there. Nice to see Lotty W in an automatic position, isn’t it? And here’s Team USA. Yeah, Net Cer top of that. And Angel Yin, who missed out on the last couple of Soheim Cups. She won the season ender on the ladies European tour in 2017 when the last time it was played in Dubai. And how well yin and no played at the the queen the crown sorry at the crown in Korea as part of that fourman team for the USA. I think Angela Stanford will have been delighted with that combination. Final hole for 66. [Music] Excellent start for Luna Sron Galves who is uh still in the hunt then I suppose for that top 10. Here’s the women’s amateur champion Sam Pedro. Oh, back to Luna. Grand of 67. Another drop shot on the card and knocking on the door again. Said it so many times over the last two years. Pala Martin Sanfredo part of this golden generation coming through in Spain. No drop shots on the card either for Kaiser Arfield today. [Applause] [Music] Marine Delore, the uh third member of the group there. She didn’t have a bogey either, but she did have a double bogey on her car, but shot a round of 70. So, three players who are fairly satisfied with the way things have worked out on day one. Here’s who isn’t too satisfied with the way things are going. This bat n has been torried for mimi roads as well. Right a bit. Yeah. Coming down a little bit. You see that green? Best part of 140 yards left from the orange trees down this right hand side of 15. That’s how close roads was to going out of bounds. Ball above her feet. pin on the left hand side here. We’ll just try and hold this face open to try and equal out the slope. Well, there’s a response. Life in Mimi’s challenge just yet. Excellent. I mean love to see her squeeze out a couple of birdies here late on Mimi roads. Here’s Martine. This front pin on a go in that bunker. It hasn’t Shannon from the center of the fairway. Normal service resumed on her back nine. 13 on four from the left here. wind into her face. Barely a breath. Hangs that one down that right hand side. with Carlotta Saganda. Even at at that age, was she always seen as someone who would go on and achieve in the game like this? We played the European individual championship. It’s the the championship of Europe in Madiraa. I think she was 13 and she won. So, yes, she’s the arch. I mean my biggest surprise is she hasn’t won a major. Yeah. Her and Anna Nquist were just unbelievable as amateurs. And then if you look at the career that Anna went on to have with the winning of the majors and has won as many majors as Carlo has won LPGA Tour titles. Yeah. That just comes up shy from Anafua. Still got her chance trying to catch Lauren Walsh. Anna is 11th on the rankings. Lauren Walsh back at level par. The gap is only about 50 points or so. So the 17year-old has a chance still to catch the Irish woman. There will be others who are involved in that. We’ll work out all the maths closer we get to Sunday. that on the bag as he was for the the two wins first of which came in Spain Lasa open but at this anda cost open Espña six under par is the mark Smeila Sonibu and Trichat Chinglab who have both won a ladies European tour title a piece they’re the ones there just checking on wiki. I was wrong. She was 14 by about two months. But it’s still ridiculous what Carlotta did as a young prodigy. And that was a lot led by Aamunoth. She was the one that all the Spanish players kind of looked up to. And then quickly Zaganda took the throne from her. Great friend. Zela will be at the wedding. All these players have had uh good days. Two under par leaving you inside the top 25. There is Anna Huang. Helen Bream also trying to make sure this week she actually went to Alabama in the buildup to this week. Good idea because you’re flying out on Monday and there’s two golf courses at Q Series and you’re teeing it up on Thursday. right to left and quick at the end. [Music] She’s made the uh amount of birdies she would have been hoping for. Just shock to the system how many bogeies she has made. this for a closing four for Nura. There’s never a smile far away, is there? With Nura, [Music] this for birdie at 15 for Saganda. hit it where she wanted to. It just didn’t want to move from left to right. Player that is switched around with her grips this year. Went back to conventional. Looks like she’s now gone to left hand low, which is what she had before that. We’ve seen her with a claw grip. Always trying to find something on those greens. Well, this would be much welcomed by Mimi Roads. It won’t wipe away what’s happened at 12, but you got to start somewhere. back to level pass. Somehow she thought she was out of bounds off the tea. It’s made a birdie, but there isn’t a smile on her face because of that nine on 12th. Oh. Yeah. Well done, Mimi. Good to see the smile back. And listen, now the aim is let’s try and shoot around under par. Six unders leading. There’s three more days to go. There’s always some story if you go under par with a nine on you can’t talk about. I can remember a number of occasions when I say number of occasions you know maybe a handful of occasions where as Shannon Tan pops that in where players have had an eight in the first round and gone on to I think Tom Kim recently in the last couple of years did that on the PGA tour. So it’s not beyond. It’s unlikely. I love it how we were Oh, then we were down and now we’re back up again. We’re like Mimi yourself, aren’t we? It’s a roller coaster. Martine chipping from the right hand side of eight. Not made a bogey today and still won’t. Gorgeous little chip there down the slope. Just one back of the leader. Just coming up to quarter to five in the evening on the south coast of Spain. We’re in Malaga. First Spanish Open was played in 1982, but it’s only been part of the Ladies European tour schedule since 2002. This the 10th time it’s been played on the Costa del Soul. Well, that was timely birdie for Mimi Roads. Back to level par now. It’s 16. Mind the tree. 208 yds and it’s just down the middle of the fairway. in amongst the trees. The two-way miss. That’s left just down those tree lines on 16. There’s bunker at 208 and there’s a bunker kind of on the fairway like on that left hand side at 224. So with driver you mean you thread the needle or you fly the tree. It seems a bit unfair. We talk about how Shannon Tan hits 88% of the fairways. They go and chuck a tree in the middle. [Music] be surprising if she hits it. Down the channel on that left hand side. It’s excellent. It’s only 307 yards this par four today. Wind will be back into her face here. So it’s the fairway wood again. There is a bit of breeze around, isn’t there? But nothing like there was what was it Tuesday here? Tuesday was a four club wind. Shannon Tan hit driver 3wood into eight which is a par four at 400 yds. It was back into the wind so it was cold as well. It was a northerly forecast suggest we may see something like that on Sunday. It’s also down the left side for Saganda. And it’s normal to have wind the further west you go, the further you get down the Atlantic as you go to Marv Bayer, then the Sautter Grande area. But up by the airport, it might get a one club wind in the afternoon, but you’d never dream of saying four clubs like we saw on Monday, Tuesday. Well, it’s a tournament where Trichat Chinglab has good memories. It was at this event in 2023 that she confirmed herself as a number one player on the ladies European tour. Been a good day today. Let’s hear what she makes of her 66. Trichat very well played out there. Six under tied at the top. Tell me about your day. Uh I mean today is like uh my goal for this week is to make five under each day. So I got one po bonuts. Okay. And I mean like the birdie that I get I mean the course is not that long. So I practice on my 58 quite a lot. Yesterday I like stand shipping like one hour like three tray for the ball. So it’s worth it. And it’s quite surprised me that the the birdie that I make I ship just only like 55 yards like the same three hole 55 yards. Yeah. So, you think this course with what you’ve been working on suits you, suits your game, suits your style, and suits how you’re hitting the ball at the minute? Mhm. Yeah. Yeah. We know you’ve been in in good form of late because of what you did in in China. I mean, that was Yeah, that was pretty dramatic, wasn’t it? And it’s nice to see you back in the winning circle playing good golf again because it’s it’s been a little bit of a struggle, it’s fair to say. I think over not just this year, but recently. It’s bring me a lot of confidence after China. I mean like I got like twice second place on the team when I was a captain but like uh that week I’m the same team with Mimi and Christina. Yeah. And my Thai girl friends and we made it. Yeah. So bring me a lot of confident this week. Yeah. Yeah. And I mean you were playing well in the individual side of things as well. It wasn’t just the team. How do you make some changes in your game that you see is working now? Uh I quite struggle with my new swing since uh maybe May that I sh it but now it’s seem like it’s getting better and better. Yeah. But it’s a shame, you know, it’s the last event this year. So I will keep like practicing and prepare for the Saudi next year as well. Yeah. Well, three more rounds to go. We’re not done yet. You never know. You might sign off in style. Good luck. Thank you. Thank you. But it’s true for some players that they don’t want the season to stop because they’re just about finding their best form of the year like Trees Shannon. Yeah, it’s just like probably thinking typical. I lose my swing in May, I struggle all the way through and then October comes and I find something. Better late than never is the expression. Doesn’t look like she’s blocked out here, Carlotta. He’s got 85 yds front, 96 yds pin from the ups slope. Expect this one to spin. Pay off the back foot ball first. Caught it heavy. Maybe coming from that ups slope. Caught that sand a centimeter behind the ball. So Mimi’s down the left hand side down the cart path. Must have hit that. They’re just coming. Yeah. Sideways here for roads. Not the first time on this back nine. Just the one fairway hit on the back nine for roads. That was on the par 512. Ironic, isn’t it? Yeah. The women’s amateur champion Pala Martin sedo to give her full title. This for a birdie finish. Very good. Some real quality amongst the Spanish amateurs. What a summer she had. She went on to win the European individual, the tournament that we were talking about. Carlotta Zaganda winning twice and just pops over to Stamford like you do. Best college golf team certainly women’s at the moment. We don’t mention the team events for Spain. If they always win then that’s a given. Got up and down on 11 from chipping out sideways. Can she do it again here on 16? Stop. Maybe. Well, the way things have gone on this back n certainly made life easier for Shannon Tan. Like tree chat. She was talking about the need to get your wedges on song around this golf course. So that is what she has been concentrating on heading into this week. Apologies for a bit of picture break up there. [Applause] Player 10th on the rankings, Lauren Walsh. Winner. That’s how you finish. Tapping birdie to finish for the Irish woman. Yeah. Hoping to be in Alabama next week. It’s a quick turnaround, isn’t it, for those players that are doing that. Erin Lauren actually went second stage and didn’t get through. So, she’s relying on this top 10 on the le to get herself into Q series. [Music] Well, it’s not an easy hole. It certainly isn’t for over here. There’s a spot you don’t want to be. It’s right where Martr has found it. Look at this. I don’t do well to make the green from here. Oh, that sounded pure. [Music] Oh, but yeah, it didn’t get that. It’s just a wedge, wasn’t it? So steep, that slope. taking the putter out here. Carlo Saganda from the fairway. That’s an interesting choice. Talk about the misses on this back nine as such. She’s offer three times from the tight fairways and is an excellent chip from the golf ball. Yeah, not something you normally see from Carlo to Saganda. She’s got that left for par. Mimi Roads has got hers for par as well, whereas Shannon Tan here is putting for birdie. It can be quick, but there’s more right to left in it than pace. That’s spinning back on that wedge has left herself on this correct level. There’s a cup from right to left. [Music] Well, she’s had a couple of three putts, so clicking her fingers there. Little worried it might go a little too far past. Should be fine. Got off to a fast start today, didn’t she? Nasty though. Four under par early on. Made a seven at the ninth. She’s thrown in a bogey on this back nine as well with no response of birdies. That’s why she’s gone to level. It’s funny, you look at the top five on the leaderboard. None of them in danger of losing their card. The highest ranked player on the rankings is Luna Sabbron in 20th place. None of the headliners are right there just yet. Oh, another She’s had some pars on this back nine and she remains level par. This could be one of these rounds where you come off and think, I don’t even know what I’ve shot here. No, I mean it could easily been 7576. She could go under par. There was a round earlier in the year where we spoke about this with me. Not earlier, a couple of weeks ago. I can’t think which one it was. I think it was Lasa. Lasaya it was. And she came off and she shot level par. And I went up to her and said that was that was really good cuz that could have unraveled. And this feels like it’s one of those. I mean, a nine is crazy, but at Lea, she she didn’t hit the ball well and really got the golf ball round and ended up finish decent there. We’re looking for the same type of response here for Saganda to escape with her par on 16. Well, that was a bit of a two. Another fist pump. She knows She only made one bogey over the first three days on route to winning last year. She broke in her very first hole. This week, this is where Martine’s second finished. That one was nipped. Beautiful. He’s got that for park to finish one back. hasn’t finished inside the top 10 all season. Martine, here’s the order of merit leader. Three very different PS there. There’s 16. That was a Shannon Tan par, wasn’t it? Fairway, green, two pot, and a click in there. Yeah, ticked all the boxes really. [Music] Back to 18 where Helen Breen looking for one more birdie. Didn’t need much more. Three runner-up finishes this year for a player who’s eighth on the rankings and featured in this event last year. So likes it down in Spain on the ladies European tour and the access series. Round of 71 for the German. [Music] 17th hole here. It runs parallel with 13. Another path through. What’s the difference between them? This one just does not throw a lot of birdies at you. I mean, last year we had under 30 birdies for the entire event, and today I think I’ve seen two, so which kind of sums it all up. It’s about 10 yards longer than the 13th. But the green is just heavily sloping from right to left. You could hit the seven. You could hit the same club as you did on 13 or just take a six. Threaten the pin more. It’s definitely even if it was especially that right side that Right. One more. Yeah. And we can pitch that 10 high right and it’s been six. We could carry this 55 easily and be fine. Right. That flag 171. The further left you go, the more the carry onto the the front edge, which is what Doug was talking about here. Take it down the right. There’s a slope to be used, but don’t leave it way right at this pin. Such a hard two pop from there. Maybe she has played some wonderful golf. There’s been a lot of indifferent action in there from her. It’s been a real mix. It’s It’s not been dull. I think we can safely say it’d be slightly stressful out there today. It’s when they all come like these two. But I’ve had such a good year. I’ve got nothing to lose. It’s just I’m going to go out there and enjoy it. What did they say? Have fun. This didn’t look like fun today, did it? It’s been fun to watch though. Here comes the plane. Shannon’s going to wait. 5:00 landing at Malaga airport. It’s got a good view, wasn’t it? Way from Serbia. [Music] I reckon Shann’s got six on here. [Music] I assume you can’t get a flight from Changangi airport Singapore straight to Malaga or something. She probably can. I suppose you see the the ripples of the water there. Right to left wind. The 6 is a 165 number pin 171. A good shot into eight with this club. So the par four just looking at the palm tree the what is there five or six of them there. So just looking at the left of those palm trees. Oh she’s got up and underneath that one. That’s heading down the right. That’s going to be an interesting watch. 30 putt coming up. Saw a similar one, didn’t we, from Luna Sabbron. She made a good two from there. Shadows are getting longer. I should know this cuz I’ve been there a couple of days. Gets dark in what, half an hour or so. I know it. It was six. It was 6 6 something last night, wasn’t it? I tell you, the sunshine was playing havoc with our paddle yesterday, wasn’t it? It was getting right in our eyes as it was setting. Yeah. Tough tough tough times. It was a good excuse for my foreplay. You don’t want to play colottand at paddle or football or golf. [Music] Excellent shot. Going to get better and better. That’s wonderful from Carla Saganda. [Music] You probably don’t want to take her on in tidly wings. Yeah, she does. Say she’s pretty good at tennis. Table tennis probably as well. From one Spaniard to another. this for a par finish for Marta Martin. No. So she falls back into a share of fifth place round of 68. 75th on the rankings, but no danger of losing a car thanks to her win in Czecha last season. Oh, that night. [Music] 15 Spaniards in the field. Luna Sabbron the best placed after her bogey free round of 67. That leaves her alongside Seline Araban at the top. The number one player from the 2023 L season. Triac Chinglab tied at the top with Smeila Sonibu. [Music] Aditi Ashok the 2023 champion round of 69. So a handy start from the Indian player. There is Carlott Suganda. Not done for the day yet. Disappointing finish in a way for AANOT. Finished two under par. Played the last seven holes in two over. Andrea Ravoa with the best scores amongst the three amateurs. There’s Shannon Tan. [Music] Olivia Cowan finishing on the other side of the uh golf course level par turn things around. She was two over at the turn. She needs to start climbing that leaderboard. Try and get herself into the top 70 of the rankings. [Music] Caragana got it back to level par but has frittered away some shots coming home. She’s now three overpar for the tournament. And there are the 75 who teed it up this week in the Anderluthia. Costa del Soul Open Despa. [Music] A very pictures setting, isn’t it? Gorgeous color sky. Nice and slow. This golf course that was redesigned by Miguel Angel Jimenez, who’s been out on the course today watching the action. Now, this is going to be a tough part, Sophie. It sure is. It was the anti-water shot, you would say, where she’s kind of leaked it out to the right and is now on the wrong tier. And look where she’s got to aim this. At the point of the shadow of the flag way right. And then from there it sticks the handbrake on. And it’s then it just rolls down that line really of the flag. [Music] Hit it. Hit it. Hit it. Well, it slowed it down a little. [Music] Five wins between them this season. Shannon Tan and Mimi Roads. It’s not been a day that has necessarily reflected their season. Another look at this. Look at where she’s aiming here. There just no way of stopping it other than hitting the pin and it hits the hole because you got to hit it high enough. So you got to take it with some pace to keep it up that right hand side. It’s why we’ve seen hardly any birdies here today. [Music] [Music] already had a couple of three puts. There’s Tan has to avoid another one. It’s slow left edge. [Music] Excellent two for Shannon Tan. avoids another three. Up at 18, Sara Kuska also a two-time winner this season. [Music] And a welcome birdie to finish at four over par. She gets herself back to three over. [Music] There’s 75. Remember there’s no cut this week. All 75 players will play all four days. But look at that. An 11 and 12 backto back double bogeies. Roads to get under par. Bounce back ability there by roads. They’re going to go out tomorrow in leaderboard order, so we’re not going to get to see too much of Mimi and Shannon, but there’s a chance they might be paired together again given where they are on the leaderboard and both of them would have taken that at certain aspect like parts of the round. Do you think through nine holes, Shannon Thomas be thinking, “Oh, I need to get back on track here.” And then Mimi went and threw in a nine and thought, “I’d love to have shot the same score as Shannon.” And then they’re looking like they’re coming together again. And it it shows like 18 holes, a lot can happen. But we’ve got 72 holes this week as well. So both of them have stayed patient in their own ways, but been on roller coasters. And I’m going to spend all night tonight in our house looking for the last time someone won a Ladies European tour event with a nine. Cuz that’s the kind of guy I am, isn’t it? Oh, you won’t be cooking. That’s for sure. like everyone will be relieved about that. Zaganda to get within three of the lead. Beautiful shot at 17. Something about her and 17th holes at a par threesheim cup but she had an opportunity on 13 the par three that runs parallel to this from about that range. So, how well has she hit her irons on this back ner? Come off making PS on both of those. Well, she was just superb last year over the first three days. 17 under par over those first three rounds. She went 67 66 66. It was only a a stumbling last day 71 that saw things tightened up. Still one more opportunity still to come. This three ball now off to the par 18th and out of the holes that Sophie will show us how to play. This 18th hole, par four, t to green, is quite straightforward. But it’s anything but when you get onto the green, which is why it plays one of the hardest holes on the golf course. You’ve got a bunker left which se seeps into that left hand side. It’s 15 yards to carry that and it’s a narrow green, but boy is it wide. 50 yards from left to right and a very, very steep slope to negotiate. Now, you want to leave yourself below the hole because you don’t want to be in those back bunkers as it’s all downhill. But even here, you can see just how slow it is to hit it up that bank and to judge it. You’re going to see a few three puts here on 18. And it’s going to be hard to hit it close. That back left pin. That’s a really good one because the bunker does encroach and you’ve only got about 12 yards of depth to work with. So off the tea, not too bad. Into the green, where do you want to leave yourself? Below the hole, yes. But then it’s all about the pace put in on this green. It’s treacherous. As is my hair. I mean, it was windy, wasn’t it, earlier in the week, but thanks for telling me there, cameraman. Just shows you. But that’s all done for Sunday when the wind’s okay. Picking up. Part of the drama. Sun’s starting to set. Roads looking for a strong finish. Likes it. not be too many of those on the back n might be a trip to the range before the sun sets just to iron out those creases. You said Mimi roads their aim is to get back to level path. So a birdie at the last will do that. on the same score of one under part. Bunker left 230. Comes out more than you think actually. He’s added some yardage this year. Good five yards on each of her irions. And getting it a bit further off the tea. I think they’ll both be glad that this day is over now. you know, they just got into the tournament and and even though Shannon’s had six bogeies, is it? And Mimi’s had a nine, they’ve not played their way out of it in terms of winning the tournament, never mind the rankings. Yeah, five bogeies for Shannon, but I can understand how you’ve miscounted. Six birdies then. It’s rather colorful. Downwind driver for Zaganda. [Applause] Well, Carla Saganda has very much been a big part of her national championships history. love to win it again. This and Costa del Soul opened Espña first played in 1982, but this is the 23rd edition as part of the ladies European tour schedule. Carlotta has very much been amongst some great finishes we’ve seen at the Spanish Open. [Music] [Applause] [Music] It’s the realization of a dream for Carla Saganda, the Spanish Open champion of 2021. Headwall for victory. Head for the first time in four years is a ladies European tour champion [Applause] ending the year just as she started it as a champion on the ladies European tour. [Music] Carlo Saganda for the second time is the Spanish open champion and nobody has won it three times and Vanam’s also won it twice. Carot two under power right now as is AANOT who’s also a two-time winner of this championship. So four back of the co-leaders Sonibu and Chinglab. You look at all those players in that top nine. All very similar circumstances. No car jeopardy, not too much on the line kind of a go for it attitude I suppose at the start of this week. And this is the the final event of the year really in golf, isn’t it? And I’ve been watching all the other tours and when they interview the players that were on the bubble, I think of Jordan Smith on the men’s European tour when he was on that line of possibly getting into the PGA tour places and he came off after the first round said I had anxiety out there. You know, it really did get to me. And you’d imagine that when you interview players that where stuff matters, like Mimi, like Shannon, like Lauren Walsh, who’s on that bubble for the top 10 to get into Q series. That’s what they’re going to say. Sometimes the buildup, you get onto the golf course and you start to finally settle in, but it can take you around to do that. So, you think tomorrow should hopefully be different. We’ll see more of what we’ve seen in 2025 from these players. And then you get to the fourth round and things change obviously because it’s the start and the end. Yeah. It’s heightened then. Yeah. Lovely setting though, isn’t it? Look at the clubhouse there in the distance with the sun setting. Those lovely palm trees here in Malaga. And when the sun’s the other way at lunchtime, sun’s on the terrace, glass of whatever you fancy. And there’s always some Spanish hounds. Delightful. That pin, that one on the right hand side is what I was talking about in the preview of this hole and how it’s that steep bank that blocks you out. If you pitch it on top, you could skid through the green and that’s exactly where you don’t want to be. So, if you’re in between clubs, take one less and be sure of the flag. just be a a mid iron really for Shannon. Three superb drives down this last hole. Look at that. Doesn’t get any better than that. Sun setting here in Spain. 18th hole for Shannon Tan. Back right pin. Let’s go. She said it right again. That’s right for Shannon. Yeah. Players hit 88% of fairways this season season. Over 82% of greens in regulation. On the other side of the course finishing off is Aaton. This for a round of 70. Very good there. Two under part. I think you get that. Yeah. For Birdie in the ninth. Yeah. One of the hardest holes on the golf course. And that gets her right on the line. in that 70th position to keep the tour card, the full playing rights for the French woman. Yeah, she started the wing 77th. That’s another subplot this week. Roads trying to finish this round on a high. Has the loft to hold this back portion of the green if she wishes to do so. [Applause] might feel like this has been more than one round of golf for Mimi Roads. Player based here in the south of Spain in Sto Grande whereas Carlotte is from Pamplona. Flags aren’t 18. To carry it onto that second tier there, it needs a minimum of 12 yards. You don’t want to be spinning it either. So, it’ll come back down to the front of the green, but also with a wedge. I’d like to hit a good one here. I’ve been on form with this club today. Club 12. Oh yeah, she’s back. Crowd pleaser. Biggest galleries around this 18th green. Carla Saganda delivers. Started the week as the tournament favor and I suppose if she knocks that and gets the three under part, you would probably still make a tournament favorite. you would always a favorite when she comes back to play on the ladies European tour, but especially in Spain. You mentioned that she’s won the opened espania, but has also had success down here in other ladies European tour events. Look how she rips through that one. How open her hips look through impact. on a strike so good that it spins back. Maybe we need a Spanish flag on every hole and she would hit it close. I mean, she’s 35 now. We talk about this generation coming through the the youngsters, but she’s still the one, isn’t she, in Spain at 35. She’s the oldest winner this season on the LPGA tour. She said to me on the range today, “How old are you, Sophie?” And it’s like Carla, you are always the youngest one because she was so good so young that she was part of our generation as such her and Anna and uh yeah I mean 35 but hasn’t it’s hard for me to say hasn’t lost any distance you know. No I mean we talk about that there’s going to be a moment where you do start losing distance and you would think it’s about her age now but it it hasn’t. One of the tournament invites, one of the 15 Spaniards in the field is Theresa Tuscana. She’s having a handy day. I think she’s about to shoot around a 70. I think that’s the Ander Lucian flag, isn’t it? The green and white one. Yeah. Yeah. Say, yeah. Yeah. Hi. It’s clever, isn’t it? in the uh Oh, you’d be taking chunks out of that. Building sand castles in that bunker. You by the time I’m finished there, it would just say or Well, look, she hasn’t been happy with her approach shots into 17 and 18. This one, we’ll probably see why. the fact that how much movement it’s got on it. Slow breaking from right to left on her eventful an eventful day. Six birdies, five bogeies. And a reminder, it’s between two only. So, as long as Shannon Tan knows that Mimi Roads doesn’t finish in the top three, she will be crowned the Order of Merit Champion come Sunday evening. And what a day it’s been for Mimi. And if she can make it a birdie birdie finish, it won’t wipe away the nine, but it’ll make her feel a whole lot better. Well, at the moment I have them playing together tomorrow, but if this goes in, they will be separated. You said getting back to level par would be good. Imagine getting back to two under par. Yeah, some fight this for me roads. Some movement on this for me roads. This is a cup from right to left. locked together at the top of the rankings and still locked together on the leaderboard. There’s Liam Pace, the champion of 2013 talking promoter Nigo there as well. [Music] I started today with a bogey. Carlotta has thrown in three birdies, bunch of pars since has given away a few chances coming in, especially on the par threes. A short put to shoot in the 70s. that quiet nine holes of level par and then we saw the small fist pump and how she urges herself forward with that veros on that 10th hole. Since then she’s been back to doing what Carlotta normally does. hits it great off the tea. Takes the flags out with her approach shots. Just needs to roll this one in for Birdie for around a 69 around in the 60s. A solid start to the defense of her title in her bid to become the first player to win three Spanish Open titles. 69 from Carlo Saganda. [Music] Shaking off that jet lag from Florida. [Music] Well, there’s no doubt that 12th hole damaged her hopes. But it’s not over. Far from it from Mimi Roads 71. But that is the standout number there, isn’t it? That par 512. If you weren’t with us, she was greenside in two. She could have let it be over. She didn’t though with those birdies coming home. The boring golf that she calls it deserted her at times today. But like Mimi Roads, a round of 71 and still on course to win the Ladies European Tour rankings for the Singapore player. Well, hopefully the formality of the birdie for Theresa Dana. [Music] Well, a lot on the line this week, Sophie. And I don’t think we’ve answered too many questions yet, have we? Really? No. Other than it it’s been quite stressful really just shows the importance of trying to win your home championship. What Cara Saganda is trying to do for the third time and then Shannon Tan and Mimi Rhodess they’re only 23 and 21 years old and they’re trying to do historical things and they’re well aware of the impact that this is going to have on their career if they can win the order of merit. the exemptions, years of exemptions, getting into majors, you know, having your name on a trophy that says that you were the best player on the ladies European tour for a year like Saganda did just over a decade ago. And I suppose no big surprise then. There’s two players at the top of the leaderboard who have no pressure on them. Smeila Sonibu 48th on the order of merit. Trish Chinglab 50th on the rankings. They’re the ones that both shoot 66. True. Very, very true. And both of them have come through a little bit of adversity in the last year. Both of them shooting bogey free today out there for their rounds of 66. But there’s still an open Espa to win. You can win a national open here this week and 105,000. Event number 27, the finale of the Ladies European Tour campaign. Bunch of Spaniards there, isn’t there? Including AAR Muno around a 70 for her. Helen Bream and Anna Huang. Two of the really young talents. And there are Mimi Rhodess and Shannon. We’ll have to wait for the draw, but as you pointed out, every chance they’re going to be playing alongside each other again tomorrow. We might have to send a camera out towards them. Yeah, side by side on the leaderboard. Shannon slightly ahead on the sense that she got her put in first, but that’s that’s it really. Remember, only a 75 player field this week. No cut to worry about tomorrow. It’s been a beautiful day, but it’s far from still as far as the action’s concerned. At times it was a little torid, but all still to play for over the next three days at this Spanish Open. We look forward to your company tomorrow. Bye-bye. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music]
