US President Donald Trump is a scratch golfer, according to Donald Trump.
Trump used a state of the nation Thanksgiving call to hype up his golf game as he fought off more allegations of cheating.
Trump is a golf nut, not only does he play regularly but he may even be on Irish shores again next year when the Irish Open is held at his Trump International Doonbeg.
The 79-year-old has never been afraid to big up his own golf game and in his Thanksgiving call he even went as far as to claim the number of club championships he has won.
“I know a lot about golf. I’ve won 38 golf championships and I don’t get to practice very much. I won one last year. I won a club championship, beating a 27-year-old kid,’ claimed the President.
“I said ‘You know, I’m decades older than you but the fairway doesn’t know how old you are,’ as you walk up the middle and he’s in the rough.”
With every club championship he claims to have won, Trump has to fight off cheating accusations. In his call to the United States he found it to be the perfect opportunity to clear his name.
“Club championships are our majors. I’ve won 38 of them, every one of them legitimately,” he said.
“It has to be legitimate because you have a lot of people following you with club championships.”
There has always been widespread debate over Trump’s handicap index. For his age he does look like he may be a decent golfer but according to the President he beats young hotshots regularly and has a playing handicap of scratch.
“I got to be right around scratch or better. I beat a plus-three.
“That’s three better, three below par. If you look at it for those that don’t know, in the finals of the club championship last year, with all I was going through and with no practice. So, I’m a good golfer.”
