England Golf has launched its 2025–2030 Sustainability Drive, reaffirming its long-term commitment to positioning golf as a leader in environmental and social responsibility.

The announcement follows England Golf’s recent win of the Sustainability in Sport Award at the 2025 Sports Business Awards, recognising the organisation’s outstanding progress and ambition in driving sustainable change across the world of golf.

Sustainability is a core part of England Golf’s 2025–2030 strategy, ‘Let’s Inspire More Golfers’, and the new plan outlines a strengthened and expanded vision for the years ahead. Building on the foundations laid by the previous Sustainability Drive, the updated programme sets out four key goals designed to guide golf clubs, facilities, and golfers through a period of purposeful transformation:

– Deliver tangible and measurable impact; reducing use of resources and improving natural habitats.
– Golf to become a leader in the sports industry for driving environmental and social impact in our communities.
– Support golfing facilities and golfers to embed sustainability into decision-making.
– To showcase our tournaments as an example for sustainability

The Sustainability Drive 2025–2030 will be delivered through a blend of direct support from England Golf’s Sustainability Team and enhanced digital resources.

The organisation will expand its suite of tools — including the Sustainability Toolkit and sustainable agronomy video tutorials developed in partnership with The R&A — while new resources will be added to the England Golf sustainability webpage in the coming months. The aim is to engage, educate, and empower every affiliated golf club and facility with the knowledge and guidance needed to make meaningful progress.

Kirstin McEvoy, Head of Sustainability at England Golf, emphasised the shared responsibility and opportunity for positive impact: “As custodians of large areas of English countryside, the golfing community has a unique opportunity to enhance the natural environment and lead the way in biodiversity recovery and efficient use of resources, as well as community wellbeing.

“With all stakeholders engaged, working together and sharing best practice, we can make a difference. We must begin with gathering the data so that we can measure, track and evidence progress which will have the additional benefit of improving the perception of golf and its environmental impact.”

Jeremy Tomlinson, CEO of England Golf, celebrated both the momentum and the responsibility ahead: “Golf not only has a huge opportunity to future-proof itself against the challenges of climate and social change, but if we act collectively, we can also create a platform to showcase the incredible sustainability actions our sport continues to drive. Having a positive impact on the environment is paramount to the ongoing success of golf, and all of us at England Golf are proud to play as energised a part as needed in accelerating progressive change.”

England Golf’s recent recognition at the Sports Business Awards further validates the organisation’s ambitious direction. The judging panel praised England Golf’s approach, stating: “England Golf demonstrated a comprehensive sustainability plan – a strong submission with clear ambition and realism. Great stakeholder engagement and both tactical and high-level execution working in tandem to drive real change.”
