Anyone know anything about this random Payne Stewart + 9/11 combo memorial plaque? I believe it’s in Lorain, Ohio. Can’t find any info online…

2 birds 1 stone. Some towns don’t have “two plaque money”

I think Payne would be horrified by this. Jesus that’s bad

The made the Payne Stewart plaque and when it was time for the 9/11 memorial they realized there was extra space.

“Dedicated to Americans who died”. So, several hundred million people?

“Alright guys, so I guess we should commemorate the lives lost during 9/11”

“Councilwoman, do we have $200 lying around to put a new plaque in the ground?”

    “Afraid not.”

    “Hmm, that is a pickle.”

“Well, old Jim Smith dedicated a park bench to his wife last month. Maybe we could just add it on there?”

“No, I think old Smithie would say that decades of Middle East meddling by the US puts some of the blame at our feet.”

“He was a fuckin commie, that Smith.” *spits*

“I know, why not the Payne Stewart plaque by the golf course?”

    “Any objections?”

“Alright, done before lunch. Good meeting everyone”

That is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. Putting Payne in front of hundreds that died is wild. Love the guy but damn

What a bizarre plaque.  Equating a golfer who died in a private plane with 9/11

What a combo of events for one plaque, couldn’t have added a few more lines for buddy holly and SRV?!

There is only one course in Lorain and that’s fox creek and I don’t believe it’s there.

Please someone figure this out. It’s a paradox. Bizarre and if you laugh you aren’t a loyal american. Wtf

  11. I asked Grok and they came up with an interesting take.

“The plaque you shared appears to be a heartfelt, community-created memorial that honors two separate but thematically linked American tragedies involving aviation disasters”

They also suggested a few courses in New Jersey and not Ohio, but then again they also referenced this thread lol.

The Payne Stewart plane crash occurred on October 25, 1999, when a Learjet carrying golfer Payne Stewart and five other people experienced a catastrophic cabin pressure loss shortly after takeoff from Orlando, Florida. Everyone on board was incapacitated by the lack of oxygen, and the plane continued to fly on autopilot for nearly four hours before it ran out of fuel and crashed in a field near Mina, South Dakota. The accident became a tragic and unsettling reminder of the dangers of hypoxia.

Is there something related to aviation safety in Lorain? The plaque is bizarre but aviation safety circa 2001 seems to be the connection.

No known connection by either Payne or 9/11 victims to Lorraine, OH

I hadn’t come to the United States yet at that time.

I do live in Lorain and have never heard of it. What leads you to believe it is in Lorain? It might be, but I’ve never been plaque exploring. 😂
