I’ve always found Callaway to be a dependable golf brand. Actually, I rate them a lot higher than that and their golf balls are certainly worthy of such praise. They produce premium options and more budget friendly alternatives. This Superfast offering falls into the latter.

But is it any good. Well I managed to get my hands on some to see if Callaway have worked their magic yet again…

NCG Summary

Callaway Superfast Golf Ball

4.5 star review

NCG SUMMARY

I think I could definitely categorise this as a golf ball that is a brilliant value for distance option. Especially for golfers who prioritise durability, high launch and total distance. I would say that you would have to be willing to sacrifice a touch of greenside control if you were to go with the Callaway Superfast golf ball.

If you are someone who has a tendency to lose a few golf balls per round, we’ve all been there, then this is worth considering. You will get reliable performance without the premium price tag.

PROS

Outstanding value

Extremely durable

Long distances off the tee

CONS

First Impressions

First things first, it is obvious that this isn’t a urethane-covered, tour level golf ball. That much is clear. I found the feel of the ball off the putter face to be noticeably firm. I’m sure that there are plenty of golfers out there who would appreciate this firmer sensation as it is a fairly honest golf ball in its performance on the greens.

There are no surprises when it comes performance around the greens either. The hybrid cover that it is equipped with allows for a higher launch and less spin than a urethane covered golf ball. I found the grooves on my wedge simply couldn’t grip the cover as effectively which meant that my chip had a tendency to release more once they hit the green.

NCG Verdict

As far as performance goes, I found what I was seeing with my eyes and what the data was telling me to be very encouraging. With a seven iron I was able to register a launch of 19°, which is higher most other urethane golf balls I have tested.

It obviously didn’t carry as far as what more premium options do but the low spin rate meant that I was able to get plenty of rollout for a competitive total distance.

It was with the driver in hand where I found the Superfast to perform strongest. My average total distance was 297 yards which is outstanding for a softer-compression ball. Despite the soft core slightly reducing the ball speed, like with the irons the low spin meant plenty of run.

Callaway Superfast Golf Ball

If you’re trying to eradicate any ballon shots or high spin strikes from your game, I’m confident you could see immediate distance gains with this.

Although this sits comfortably in the budget category there is still plenty of technological features Callaway has incorporated into the Superfast golf ball. The multi-material hybrid cover has been included to provide a high launch, reduced spin and enhanced durability. If you’re a golfer who has a tendency to hit a cut then this will be compatible with your favoured ball flight.

The low driver spin I experienced in testing wasn’t out of the blue. Callaway’s Hyper-Elastic SoftFast Core is designed to keep driver spin low while maintaining a responsive feel. It works well to stabilise the ball flight and increase distance.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I found the Callaway Superfast golf ball does what it says on the tin. It produces long, penetrating driver strikes as well as high-launching iron shot. It is also extremely durable at a price that you’ll do well to beat.

Of course, its performance around the greens can’t compete with a urethane covered golf ball but it isn’t marketed or designed to. If you’re looking for extra distance for a fair price give it a go.
