Kai Trump might have developed a close bond with her grandfather, Donald Trump, over their shared love of golf but the 18-year-old has been strangely reluctant to say whether she has ever beaten him.

The U.S. President has just made his 16th trip of the year to Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach this week as he prepares to celebrate Thanksgiving at his Mar-a-Lago country club, once again showing his penchant for a round of golf.

President Trump has never shied away from his love of the sport and, on one or two occasions, has even taken his teenage granddaughter along with him, but his frequent trips have generated plenty of concern among American citizens, given that it is their hard-earned money that ultimately pays for them.

The 79-year-old spent $151.5 million of taxpayers’ money on golf-related travel and security expenses during his first term in the White House between 2017-2021, but that figure is set to be blown out of the water by the end of his current term if he continues the way he is going.

According to an analysis by HuffPost, the president has already racked up a bill of $71m in golf excursions since his return to the White House in January, of which the majority is spent on travel and security.

The former property tycoon has already made four trips to Mar-a-Lago over the past month, including one over Halloween weekend, and if he makes just two more before the end of the year, his golf expenses will have topped $75m for 2025.

Perhaps the most jaw-dropping stat, however, is that if he follows the same golfing schedule for the remainder of his four-year term, that figure will exceed $300m – almost double the amount covered by the US taxpayer during his first term.

Given the amount of money shelled out on President Trump’s golfing trips, you’d also expect him to be half-decent. While he is renowned for over-exaggerating his achievements, he has also been labelled a “Commander in Cheat” on the course, with some claiming he even kicks his ball.

One person who would know just how good he is, however, is his granddaughter. Yet, the aspiring golfer has been reluctant to provide too many details about the veteran politician’s golfing exploits, especially when it comes to games between the two of them.

Speaking at The ANNIKA earlier this month, where she made her LPGA debut, Trump was asked how she gets on when facing “gramps” in golf, to which she replied: “He’s pretty good. He’s pretty good.”

When pressed further with “is he?” she continued: “Yeah, he’s pretty good. We have some tight matches. Yeah, can’t say much. Yeah, we have some tight matches.”

Trump’s diplomatic answers continued when she was directly asked whether she had beaten the U.S. President, to which she once again avoided giving a straight answer.

“I’ll leave that up to you to decide,” she quipped. “I don’t know. We play a lot. We have a great time out there. We’re always on the same team as well.”
