Collin Morikawa’s recent slump has raised a lot of questions. Is this just a dip in form, or is something deeper going on with his swing, putting, or equipment changes? In this video I break down Morikawa’s world ranking drop, his loft adjustments, putting struggles, and what the data actually shows. If you want real cause-and-effect golf analysis, this will help you understand what’s really happening to Collin Morikawa’s game right now.

Lately, I’ve received multiple comments asking me to talk about Colin Morawa, whether I’m going to do something on his swing, and whether his recent drop off in results is just a slump or something bigger. He hasn’t performed quite as well as he once did, and people are wondering, is this temporary or is there something deeper lurking underneath? Today, I’m going to walk through what we actually know, what speculation, and where I think this might be heading. And I’ll circle back at the end and give you my honest opinion. But really quickly, if you’re new here, I upload four to five videos a week covering cause and effect tour level swing breakdowns and honest golf education with no payw walls. So, if you like this type of content, consider subscribing so you don’t miss the next one. But let’s get into see what’s up with Colin. So, before we break anything down, there’s one principle you do need to understand. Correlation does not equal causation. Just because Moriawa has made changes and his world rankness drop does not automatically mean swing change is equal to ranking drop. The timing overlaps. Yeah. Do the patterns overlap? Sure. But golf performance is way too multi-layered to blame one single variable. So, let’s just start with the facts. Early in 2025, Moria was ranked as high as fourth in the world. And as of right now, he sits at 13th in the official World Golf ranking. He still has six PJ tour wins, but his last victory was the Zoo Championship in October 2023. So, yes, he hasn’t won in over a year and a half. That alone fuels the what happened narrative. Recently, Morokawa revealed a pretty major equipment change. He added two degrees of loft to every iron in his bag because he felt he was under spinning everything. For a player of his precision, that is not a small tweak. Changing lofts alter dynamic loft, your spin rates, your launch angles, your descent angle, and how much shafting you can actually deliver before the ball flight becomes unstable. It can absolutely change the feel, which means it changes the matchups your body has built over thousands of reps. At the same time, Morawa dealt with a back issue in 2023 that limited his ability to rotate through impact. And this is where causation becomes very real. When rotation is restricted, your body doesn’t ask for permission. It automatically creates new compensations. Less rotation, different sidebend, different arm delivery, different wrist alignments, different impact conditions. That’s pure cause and effect, and it impacts your consistency. Then we have putting, which is a huge part of the story and fully backed by the data. For the current season, Morawa ranks 141st in strokes gained for putting. That’s near the bottom of the PJ tour. He’s been searching, trying different grips, different alignment styles, and even different putter heads, including a center shafted spider style mallet. At one point, he changed putters mid-event because he said it felt so bad, describing these putting as like a blind man. Those aren’t theories, those are his words. And remember, poor putting doesn’t cause swing changes, but it does cause scoring pressure. And scoring pressure magnifies any imperfections in the long game. It all feeds into each other. And next is the caddy situation, which is often underrated by fans. Morawa has changed caddies multiple times in 2025. When the voice in your ear changes, your decision-making rhythm changes, and that affects your commitment. Commitment affects delivery. Delivery affects contact. That’s not speculation. That’s how highlevel golf works. Performance-wise, it’s not like he’s fallen apart. He has four top 10 this season, including runner-up finishes earlier this year. But there was also a window there. Over 14 events, he logged only one top 10. And that’s where the Morawa is slipping story line really took off. Again, the timing of these dips lines up with equipment changes, injury recovery, putting struggles, and caddy turnover. That’s correlation. The interaction of these variables is where we start to see causation. Now, let’s bring this full circle. Is this just a slump or is something bigger going on? And here is my opinion. This is a multi-factor slump, not a long-term decline. His ball striking DNA is still elite. His tea green and approach numbers prove that. There is nothing in the data suggesting his technique has disappeared. But what has changed is everything around the technique. His body, his equipment, his putting and his team structure. When all those variables shift at once, you do get volatility, even for a two-time major champion. Could this last if the putting and caddy situation don’t stabilize? Yes. Could it flip quickly if the rotation and putting improve? Also, yes. But there is nothing in the evidence that suggests Morawa is done. This isn’t a collapse. It’s an adaptation phase. And if you enjoy this type of cause and effect breakdowns, I again upload four to five videos a week, all free, no pay walls, just real education for golfers who want to understand why things happen rather than chasing some random tips. If that’s your style, hit the subscribe button and stick around. We’ve got a lot more coming. Hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving for all the US watchers. And let me know in the comments what you think about Colin and who do we do next. Other than that, agrees.

Slump or deeper issue? And who’s next?
I think its just a slump, he still strikes it well
Happy thanksgiving Tony take a day off! 😂😂
Let's keep in mind. When Collin won his two Majors, he won them during the pandemic. The 2020 PGA Championship with no being allowed on the course; don't tell me that doesn't plays a major role in coming down the back 9 or the last few holes where the crowds play a huge role, ie noise from the other holes, etc.
He won the 2021 Open shooting in the 60's every round, fighting off Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm 15, 13, 11 respectively. Since then, he really hasn't come close to winning his next major. IMHO, it could very well be his putting that's holding him back. He's changed his grip and putter several times. Not to mention going through and hand full of caddies this season. He's clearly looking for something to improve his game, for example, how to get back into the winning circle. Personally, I don't think he's slumping. If anything, he has to start making more putts and find a caddie he trusts.
Morikawa has become the latest swing junkie victim chasing P1, P2, which if you go far enough will eventually lead to P666, where the father of confusion will bind you up for all eternity where he can torment you non stop with the promise of swing nirvana which NEVER comes.
It's a dark conspiracy and why the King and Queen once outlawed the game because they got jealous of the tormentors power amd wanted it for themselves.
This is why they created taxes, to enslave you while keeping you away from the golf course, a double royal whammy.
Man what a move he has! Didn’t notice how much bow he has
When I worked at ACE golf ⛳️ in Queensland I used to deal with a couple of Japanese pros. Young guys living between Japan and Queensland. One guy would bring his putter in to get me to adjust lies etc.. we’d spend an hour screwing around with it only to have him grab it… stare at it… set it down… put his foot on it and bend it. Then he would pick it up, swing it a bit.. put it down, look at it in his stannnce and give me the thumbs up 👍👍….. I didn’t charge him.. 🤣🤣🤣 I love the Japanese people
Watched a few of your videos now and I really like this channel
Very cool stuff
Interestingly Both Morikawa and Speith (havent watched that video yet) are lead side dominant ie lefties playing right so their strengths feels and technique are going to be way different to most players and coaches, Maybe they should work on their weaker trail side more especially for driver
I think his recent drop is more mental and equipment related rather than swing related.
He needs to buy a LAB putter. Im putting better with one
great summary of his issues. Similar to spieth, when putting goes off it is very hard to win and then players seem to look to swing changes to compensate for it. Also when putting does go off, with some style changes they can get back to an average level but it does not seem to ever come back to their previous elite/major winning level.
It’s weird you talk about people that you have no inside knowledge about like did you know that Colin Morikawa started working with Dana Dahlquist which I found out at my quarterly 2 hour lesson with him Colin approached him at the PGA and wanted him to take a look and see what he thought and their whole goal is to get his swing back to whatever year was his best where he won a bunch of times and was top 5 in the world! His lifelong coach is staying on board as a mental coach I believe is what they’re labeling him but he took Colin down some rabbit holes that brought in the two way miss and their loan goal is to get back to where he can swing at it with the freedom of 2022 I believe was the year… previous coach had him believing he needed more speed and it ended up not really working plus he wound up losing the ability to attack golf courses with his irons which are his super weapon
Maybe im projecting but I think isolating himself on the putting green and committing to SOMETHING is what would help him the most. Just old-fashioned grind work
He also got married. Not that it factors into his game but it does factor into his life. He’s not alone either. Spieth, Rahm, Thomas, and Fowler have all dropped off their top tier game after getting married. Coincidence? Maybe. But life expanded beyond the golf course for them.
I was expecting some analysis on his atrocious putting. If he can get anywhere close to average regarding putting (maybe finding a fit with the caddy could help) he’ll start winning again.
One of the nicest swings on tour.
Once again great content delivered. All the information is always spot on.
Btw, I forgot to say who I'd like to see next. Do Cameron Smith. He's the only player to miss the cut in all for majors in 2025.
Love these videos!
Someone mentioned that Morokowa and his team couldn't figure out why he was hitting a draw.
Can you do Jack Nicklaus circa 1960 vs Jack Nicklaus circa 1975.?
I feel that major changes although seldom spoken about.
Even more changes than 1994 Ernie vs 2000 Ernie , in my opinion
