The Joseph M. Bartholomew, Sr. Municipal Golf Course will look to extend its reputation as a low-key food destination when The Back Nine restaurant opens in the clubhouse this January.
The golf course recently made an announcement about The Back Nine opening, and signage for the restaurant recently went up. Operator Keith Swainer II told What Now New Orleans that people are rapidly anticipating a restaurant to replace the popular Munch Factory, which had been a popular spot in the clubhouse since 2020.
“Everybody’s asking when we comin’,” he said. “We just put our signs up, and we had about 30 people come in and ask us. So, it has been a pretty good reception so far.”
Swanier said that The Back Nine will have a golf menu specifically meant for players, which includes club sandwiches, hot dogs, and hamburgers. In addition to table service, The Back Nine will have golf cart servers who will take orders and deliver food and drinks on the golf course. Golfers can also call in sit-down orders to the restaurant from the course.
In addition to the golf menu, The Back Nine will have an elevated menu of New Orleans food meant for both golfers and the general public. That menu will include steak, fish, shrimp, and chicken-and-beignets, which is a take on chicken-and-waffles. There will be a full bar, and the restaurant will stay open after the golf course closes to cater to the dinner crowd.
