Dundalk pro Cian Geraghty was the only man to break par in the second and final round of the Irish Assistants Championship at Ardee Golf Club, and it left him two shots clear at the top.
An opening round of 71 left Geraghty tied for second alongside Cork’s Charlie Flavin and trailing Charlie Walsh of Westport by a shot, but when Geraghty reeled off three birdies in a row on holes four through six, he’d turned a one-stroke deficit into a two-stroke lead.
From there, a dropped shot on eight did no real damage as it was playing as the toughest hole on the course and Flavin and Walsh also made bogey, but Geraghty played the next nine in one-under thanks to a birdie on 14 and eight pars, leaving him the luxury of having a three-shot lead when he stood on the 18th tee.
After signing for a closing bogey, Geraghty was still the only one of the 61 players who teed it up to be in red figures, with Walsh claiming second on level-par and Malahide’s Liam Cully taking third place on +2.
It caps off a great year for the Dundalk assistant pro who claimed his first individual victory on the PGA in Ireland region when he topped the field at the Ballymore Newlands Pro-Am back in July, having shared the honours at the Grange Golf Club Pro-Am back in 2024.
