National College of Ireland student Patrick Curran is off to the perfect start in the 2025/26 R&A Student Series after securing a four-stroke victory in the opening event at Sweden’s Halmstad Golf Club.

The Edmondstown club man took a three-stroke lead into the final round after an opening 67 and then a gritty one-under 71 in tough conditions on day two, with a hometown player in Oskar Blomqvist his closest challenger.

Conditions were tough again on the final day, and the 20-year-old opened the door with a double-bogey-seven on the second hole, but regained his composure to birdie two of the next five and reassert his authority. He played the final 10 in one-over, but that was more than enough given the conditions and his -5 54-hole tally was five better than Blomqvist, Ross Laird of Scotland, and American Michael Crowley.

The win gives Curran the early number-one ranking in the Series which heads to Belfast’s Malone Golf Club for the second event in early October.

The Maynooth duo of Ben Cahill and Aodhagan Brady finished 10th and 13th respectively, while Anna Dawson, also a Maynooth student, finished tied for seventh in the Women’s event where hometown favourite Elice Fredriksson took top honours by two strokes with a one-under scoreline.
