FootJoy’s Contour line has long been a favourite among golfers. Comfort is king has never been more true about a line of golf shoes. But in recent years, golfers have increasingly demanded shoes that look as good off the course as they perform on it.

The FootJoy Contour Casual aims to be exactly that kind of all-rounder. But does it achieve this? Jack Backhouse extensively tested them to find out…

FootJoy Contour Casual Golf Shoes

5 star review

NCG SUMMARY

The FootJoy Contour Casual is a textbook example of a modern lifestyle golf shoe. It looks clean, supplies all-day comfort, and offers surprising on-course performance. If you want something that moves seamlessly from the tee to the clubhouse, this is one of the strongest options on the market. Stable, supportive and deceptively grippy, it performs far better than its laid-back styling may suggest.

PROS

Superb comfort for long wear

Excellent traction for a spikeless design

Supportive arch and cushioning

CONS

Not ideal for UK winter conditions

First Impressions

If you love understated styling, the Contour Casual is immediately appealing. I tested the all-white model and I love the aesthetic. I like the minimalist leather upper and gum-coloured spikeless outsole. Less is definitely more in this case. It’s exactly the type of shoe that doesn’t scream golf—and that’s deliberate. The look is closer to a clean lifestyle trainer than a traditional golf shoe, making it a genuine wear-anywhere option.

NCG Verdict

This is where the Contour Casual truly surprised.

I wore them for multiple rounds in California, encountering dry turf, wet turf, slopes, rough, bunkers—you name it—and didn’t slip once. For a soft, lifestyle-focused outsole, that’s exceptional.

The traction exceeded expectations and outperformed many comparable spikeless shoes, particularly those with a more relaxed profile. I do tend to slip easily, but was impressed with the Contour Casual’s security and grip throughout the swing.

I wore these for 6–8 hours at a time while teaching, and I never felt any sort of discomfort. Pretty impressive and rare thing to find from a pair of golf shoes. The combination of soft cushioning and subtle arch support creates a stable, fatigue-free feel over long periods. I’ve found their comfort is the main standout feature of the Contour line.

After four consecutive days of wear, the shoes still looked fresh, with the leather upper holding up well. However, I must admit I would avoid using them for winter golf in the UK due to mud.

In terms of technology, it has a soft, flexible rubber outsole that feels immediately comfortable and allows the shoe to be worn for long stretches. For me it makes it ideal for coaching, range work, or full days on the course.

Additionally, for extra comfort it includes a lightweight PU insole which offers soft underfoot cushioning and a surprising amount of support. I found the built-in arch did take some getting used to but ultimately made the shoe feel more structured than many other casual spikeless options.

Even though I do think it is positioned better as a casual summer option the waterproof protection is a good inclusion for those looking for something a bit more.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think the FootJoy Contour Casual is a near-perfect warm-weather golf shoe. It delivers premium comfort, a versatile aesthetic, and performance levels that surpass its casual appearance. Traction is outstanding, the fit is supportive without being intrusive, and the waterproofing is more than adequate for dealing with the dew from early-morning rounds.
