Cloverhill
Having swept home the previous week in the Fiver Sweep competition, Raymond Kelly’s attachment to his Winter Spurk Mat continued, as he bagged one of the main Christmas dinner components, “the Ham”.
In the first of the five weekends of the Christmas Fayer 12-Hole Competition, Raymond (12) followed up his previous win with another, returning 31 points. Raymond finished a point ahead of David Kiely (12) who took home the turkey for second.
There was a tie for the next two places on 29 points, with Kieran Bellew (10) winning a bottle of spirits of choice after getting the countback verdict over Brendan O’Rourke (12) who won a case of beer of choice. Stephen McLoughlin (4) landed the prosecco for fifth place with 27 points.
In order to spread the festive cheer around, the first and second players each week will be docked a shot. There will be four handicap categories in operation, with a bottle of wine, to go to the top points player in each category, not included in the top five overall prizes. To keep things on an even keel, anyone who picks up two prizes will also be docked a shot.
Category winners: Category 1 Mark McKinley (3) 25pts, Category 2 Fintan McAleenan (5) 26pts, Category 3 Colum Quinn (12) 26pts, Category 4 Owen Carragher (14) 26pts.
Dundalk
John McEneaney (20) and Peter McCaughey (17) shot the best scores in the 14-hole singles stableford competition played over the weekend of November 15 and 16.
Both were playing in Division 4, with McEneaney taking the divisional honours on the final round countback, the last hole, after the pair had matched each other on the last nine, last six and last three holes. They shot 35 points, with McEneaney’s score on the 18th one shot better than McCaughey’s and enough to give him the bragging rights.
The competition was played over the 14-hole B course which meant that the third, fourth, 15th and 16th holes were not used.
Dennis Cunningham won Division 1 with 34 points which was one better than Barry Grennan (8), while Peter Cunningham (12) also had a one-point winning margin in Division 2 as he edged out Gerry O’Keeffe (11). Alan Joynt (13) shot 33 points to win Division 3 and he had one shot to spare over Eamon Kelly (15).
The Winter League, sponsored by Precision Cables, starts this coming weekend, with entries being accepted up until Friday. There is a €5 entry fee and envelopes and the box are located on the bar in the clubhouse.
The league will take place over six weekends and run into early February, with breaks for team events over this period. Teams will be picked based on an even spread of handicaps.
Due to heavy demand on the timesheet, it has been agreed that players can play and enter in the weekend competition and the Winter League on a Friday for a trial period over the winter 14-hole season. Players must enter in the pro shop prior to commencing their round and need a Golf Ireland member to sign their card.

A nine-hole stableford turkey competition took place over the weekend and the results were as follows:
Cat 1 winner Monari Tonram (13) 21pts, 2nd Irene Kirwan (13) 18pts; Cat 2 winner Marita Moore (21) 20pts, 2nd Susanne Booth (23) 17pts ocb.
The winner of last Thursday’s nine-hole stableford sweep competition was 20-handicapper Caroline O’Neill with 20 points.
Ladies,as per usual procedures, any member who has won a turkey is docked a point per win for subsequent turkey competitions for 2025.

Week eight of the annual turkey/ hamper competition was an 18 gross and the winners were as follows:
Grade 1 – Feichin Rath 52 (whiskey winner Gerry Breen snr 51 ob9); Grade 2 – Ciaran Reilly 49 (whiskey winner Gary Coyle 48); Grade 3 – Eddie Cunningham 53; Ladies – Mary Coyle 52 (biscuits Barbara Murphy 46 nett). Well done to all.
This coming weekend there will be an 18 nett competition. The start times are 1pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, along with a Sunday morning session at 9.30.
