Aaron Rai was asked the following after his win at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship:
– How would you sum up this week?
– How much credit do you give to your wife for this win?
– How beneficial is it to have a partner that is also a professional golfer?
Yeah, amazing week. Um, didn’t really have too many expectations coming into the week. Um, I think it’d been six or seven weeks since the BMW PGA, which which was the last event that I played in. Um, so yeah, I actually came here two weeks ago to do a little bit of practice. Um, which which helped massively just with getting a feel for the course, a feel for the grass. Um but yeah, coming into this week, uh I wasn’t really sure what to expect. So to be to be sat here now is um is hard to put into words at the moment. And there were a lot of moves on the leaderboard today, lots going on. Did you keep an eye on that or were you just laser focused on your game? I didn’t look at it too much. Um I think with playing with Nikolai and Tommy, um they both played great today. Um, I was aware that that they that things were very close in our group, but outside of that, I didn’t really look too much at what was going on. Um, which which helped just to stay focused and to keep keep playing and in the way that I saw the course. Um, so yeah, I think that helped to just keep kind of plotting away and um, yeah, ju just to kind of stay stay in my own place. Uh, absolutely huge. Absolutely huge. Um it’s hard for me to really sum up how much of an effect that she’s had on me as a person. Um and also that that naturally feeds into into my golf. Um this year has been extremely special with us getting married. Um it was great. I spent uh almost 4 weeks in India um in October caddying for her, being with her, obviously getting married, practicing and playing together. Um it’s it’s just a beautiful thing to be able to share different parts of our lives with with one another um and being with each other every step of the way. So um yeah, very special massively. Um, I think first and foremost the understanding of just what goes into um, playing professional golf. Not just being away for the tournaments, but all of the weeks where there aren’t any tournaments, but the amount of practice you have to do, the way you have to live your life. Um, the choices you have to make, almost the control that you have to have around just the way you live your life. And I think it’s hard for someone who isn’t in this line or who has the understanding of the game that to really um be able to put up with all the things that that you have to do. Um so she’s she’s been incredibly understanding in that regard. Um and just sharing things together has has been has been beautiful. So yeah, I couldn’t ask for for anyone
