WASHINGTON — On Saturday, President Trump met with golf icon Jack Nicklaus at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to announce a high‑profile effort to rebuild the base’s aging golf facilities. According to the president, the two 18‑hole championship courses at Andrews—often called the “president’s golf course”—have suffered from “years of neglect” and are in a “very bad shape,” requiring urgent renovation.

Trump, accompanied by Nicklaus aboard Marine One for an aerial inspection of the grounds, told reporters that Nicklaus will serve as the architect of the redesign. He asserted the work can be carried out “for very little money,” though he did not detail how the project will be financed or which entity will bear the cost.

According to official information, Andrews hosts three 18‑hole courses, multiple putting greens, and a driving range, and has served successive U.S. presidents since Gerald R. Ford first played there in 1974.  While Trump owns a portfolio of private golf properties—some of which were also designed by Nicklaus—he has seldom played at Andrews himself.

Faith Based Events

The announcement raises several questions: who will fund the renovation of a military installation course, whether taxpayer dollars will be involved, and what long‑term plan governs the property’s use. The base’s public affairs office deferred to the White House for comment; the White House did not respond to requests for further details.

As the project takes shape, it will join an expanding list of Trump‑era construction initiatives—including White House renovations and private‑donor–funded upgrades—that have drawn scrutiny over cost, transparency and ethics.
