Laurie Canter had appeared to have succeeded in his quest to become the first former LIV Golf member to earn a PGA Tour card, but the Englishman is set to rejoin the breakaway league in an unexpected twist.
Canter was a founding member of LIV in 2022 and competed as a full member in the league’s first two seasons before taking a reserve player role in 2024. After playing the first two events of that season, Canter’s time with LIV appeared to be over, and he focused his efforts on reaching the PGA Tour via success on the DP World Tour.
The 36-year-old succeeded in his mission, finishing seventh in the Race To Dubai rankings last week to secure one of 10 PGA Tour cards on offer. Canter previously made clear that reaching the PGA Tour was his goal after leaving LIV.

The world No. 62 played in three PGA Tour events in 2025, thanks to his strong world ranking, and he secured full member status for 2026.
But according to Sports Business Journal, Canter is set to snub the opportunity in favor of a return to LIV Golf. The breakaway league has started filling its vacant roster spots after six players were relegated at the end of the season in August.
Victor Perez has joined Cleeks GC from the PGA Tour, while Scott Vincent and Yosuke Asaji earned their spots at the conclusion of the Asian Tour’s International Series on Saturday.

But some teams, including Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers, still have openings on their four-man rosters with the start of the new season in February edging closer.
A landing spot that makes sense for Canter is the Majesticks. The team, co-captained by Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood, has an opening after the relegation of major champion Henrik Stenson.
The three remaining members of the team — Poulter, Westwood and Sam Horsfield — are English, and much of the Majesticks’ branding efforts have focused on the UK.
Although Canter is not a big name like Ryder Cup legends Poulter and Westwood, he would be a natural fit for the team’s branding, and his form on the DP World Tour suggests he would be a significant upgrade for a team that has found success hard to come by through the first four seasons of LIV Golf.
Canter’s excellent season was built upon early success, winning the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship in February, two weeks after finishing third at the Dubai Desert Classic — one of the DP World Tour’s flagship events.
Canter also had top-five finishes at the Investec SA Open Championship and Genesis Championship before finishing T3 at the DP World Tour Championship last week to secure a PGA Tour card, which appears set to go unused.
