Media mogul Dave Portnoy has confirmed that Kai Trump, granddaughter of President Donald Trump, has accepted an invitation to compete in a $10 million golf tournament.
Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, recently hosted the successful ‘Internet Invitational,’ a $1 million tournament featuring a diverse group of golf influencers and sports media personalities. The event, which was not without its share of controversy and drama, was broadcast as a YouTube series over recent weeks and garnered millions of views.
With plans to expand the concept for a second season, Portnoy has set his sights on including 18-year-old Kai Trump among the competitors. The young golfer made her LPGA Tour debut last week at The Annika in Florida, finishing in last place.
Despite being a high school senior committed to playing collegiate golf at the University of Miami in 2026, Trump struggled with the steep learning curve of her first professional event. She carded a 13-over-par 83 on the opening day at The Pelican in Belleair, before bouncing back with a three-over-par 73, though she still missed the cut by a significant margin.
However, Portnoy is keen to have Trump participate in the next ‘Internet Invitational,’ along with WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark, who played in the pro-am at The Annika. According to Portnoy, both women have tentatively accepted his offer.
Speaking on ‘The Unnamed Show’, Portnoy revealed: “I’ve invited two people so far, they’ve both said yes,”.
“I don’t know how serious the yeses are. Caitlin said yes; Kai Trump said yes. Those are my two that I’ve asked. Whether push comes to shove, and those two are available and do it, who knows?”.
The inaugural ‘Internet Invitational’ had already captured the attention of younger golf enthusiasts, but adding figures like Trump and Clark would certainly spark even greater mainstream appeal.
Trump’s debut on the LPGA Tour demonstrated promise, though she clearly has considerable development ahead to compete at the professional level. After finishing at the bottom of the standings following 36 holes last week, the teenager offered a gracious reflection on her experience.
“What an incredible honor and opportunity to compete in my first LPGA Tour Event at The Annika,” she posted on Instagram. “This week was an absolute dream come true. There are so many amazing people I want to thank for making it happen and for being so supportive.
“You all made this week so special for me. It was a lifelong dream to play in a LPGA event, and this is just the start. I learned so much about my game and myself out there.
“I was so impressed by all the LPGA players I met and got to watch as well. I’m going to use this experience to keep growing as a person and as a golfer. Thank you all for the support!”.
