What’s up fellow hackers. I need some help. I’ve been playing consistently for a year now. Limited to no experience beforehand. I’m currently a 25 handicap…still trying to break 100. My biggest issue is inconsistency and flat out inability to hit off the tee box.

Within 80 yards to pin with my wedges, chipping around the green, and putting are my biggest strengths. I can consistently close a hole strong when I get here.

My iron play is formidable, I can strike the ball consistently and have improved so much in that area. I hit 9-7 irons the best, 6 and 5 irons can be a struggle for some reason, but my 4 iron is consistently good and I can carry it 200-210. I’ve recently added a 3 wood to my bag and I’m improving but can hit it around 215-220. I’ve almost considered ditching driver and hitting off the deck with my 3 wood or 4 iron 🫠.

My driver shots are either a low stinger around 190-200 yards, or I somehow open my club face up and it goes 45 degrees to the right in the woods 😂 but when I rarely hit center face and a clean shot I get 250+ down the center with a nice fade.

For the life of me- I can’t set myself up in a good position after my drives. I used to hook it low and to the left every time, but took an hour golf lesson and the instructor positioned my left hand stronger so I could see 3 knuckles and it eliminated my far left hook. I struggle the most with swinging up and getting good height and I’m pretty bad about lifting my head up and topping it on occasion. I’ve been trying to focus on eliminating as many swing thoughts as possible, having a nice and easy swing with more hip rotation, and having a more athletic stance on the balls of my feet with proper weight shifting. No matter what I do though, I feel stiff and awkward when addressing the ball.

For my irons, I take a loaded position with 70ish% weight on the left side, during my back swing it feels like I even the weight in both feet. Not sure if that’s proper, but it allows me to strike ball first consistently. For driver I try to have an even distribution of weight in both feet, during my back swing I load up my right leg and then focus on hip rotation and follow through towards my target.
