Honest 9 Month TaylorMade r7 Driver Review – TIME FOR CHANGE!?
Of all the golf clubs I’ve tried in 2025, only one has blown me away. And today, we’re going to give you a long-term review of the Tailor Made R seven Mini Driver. Now, of all the drivers I’ve tried, I’ve tested, I’ve reviewed for you guys, this is the only one that has stayed in my bag, and for good reason, to be honest, because I’ve actually played some really, really good stuff with this R seven Mini Driver, both on camera and off camera. But there’s a few things that I think I did totally wrong in having this in the bag. So, I’m going to let you guys know that today. We’re going to do a little bit of a more deep dive than just a standard review. You can get these still online for a quite affordable price as you can see when Bob puts that in the corner there. But usually mini drivers would sell out. You wouldn’t be able to get them. They’d be worth more than when you bought them new secondhand. So, why is this driver still available? Why could you potentially save yourself some money or even get a bit of a deal on one? and why do I think it’s the best club released of 2025? We’ll discuss all that in today’s video. But first, the first te here at a gorgeous Lindrich Golf Club this morning. It is November. Not that you would know here. Now, one of the things I really, really love about this driver is that trip down nostalgia lane. I think it really works for me there. I really do love the memories of the old school Tailor- made R seven quad and the fact we have that new quad adjustable weighting system. Now, we’ve all seen the sneak peeks of the new tailor made driver on the conforming list which Rory and Tommy Fleet would have using in Abu Dhabi. I can’t talk too much about it because I’m under embargo and I haven’t even seen it yet. But something about this may well be working its way into the new tailor made driver. So, one of the things I’ve loved about this so far is often we get to the first tea here at Lindri or at WLET or wherever we’re playing, we don’t really have a warm. We just have a coffee like nice coffee this morning, won’t I? And then we get straight to it. So, I feel like here, this is the perfect driver for me just to get on the first tee, not really have loosened up and hit T- shots just like that one down the right hand side of the fairway. Now, funnily enough, I actually took this to the guys at SGT just the other day for a post purchase fitting. We have tweaked it a little bit. I’ll talk you through those settings as well, and we tried some rather expensive exotic shafts. Did it make a difference? Um the Fujicora R seven shaft is still in it. So the jury’s out on that. So you can see there quite a nice low ball flight with that first shot of the day. And one of the things that I have tweaked on this driver is I’ve actually lofted it down ever so slightly and that’s helping me with the lie angle of this club as well. So I’ve got the 11 degree version. You could you can of course have 11 degree or 13 11 and 1 half and 13 and 1/2. And the 11 and 1 halfs are quite difficult to get. The 13 and 12 you can get quite readily, but the 13 and 12 is probably the club that most people do want in their bags. Now, one thing that I have found also the head cover game is quite strong, isn’t it? I do love that flipped inside out look, but one of the things I’ve really enjoyed about this, and there are some negatives in here as well, so stay tuned if you want some proper honest feedback on this club. But one of the things that I’ve really, really enjoyed is the consistency of hitting fairways, which is what this club is all about. And when I played in a competition at Woolly Park the other day and when I played against Brett here the other day, I just hit loads of fairways. And in relation to that, I made loads of pars. I think I shot two over par at Woolly and I shot one over par here. And it was just loads and loads of pars. Now that is a little bit of boring golf. But realistically, I’m almost up there with my playing partners or just behind them, but pretty much always in the fairway, which kind of really really works for me who often isn’t in the middle of the fairway. if I hit what’s under that head cover there. So guys, these videos are of course as much about you as they are about me and my game. Guys, get in the comments below, what do you think to the Tailor Made R seven Mini Driver? What driver do you have in the bag? And what driver would you love to have in the bag moving forward to 2026? I can’t believe I’m saying that, but it’s December in a few weeks time. You love the clubhouse. What a lovely clubhouse that is. Now, usually on this first hole, it’s nice to get past that bunker. You can see here just in the rough on the right hand side, we’ve got just shy of 150 in. I’m not going to play this shot because this isn’t what the video is about, but that for the first t-shot of a day without a warm-up is pretty perfect for what I’m trying to explain to you all. Okay, so a good t-shirt on the first there. And when it comes to more of a long-term review, a review of the longevity of the club, just what exactly are we thinking? So, you can see I do have the heavy weight set in the front here. That does bring CG forward in the face. It reduces MI and it makes it a bit more of a low spin weapon. I don’t often use it off the fairway. That’s one of the slight things that I do think you can’t do as well with this as such as a Titalist GT280 or something like that. The TT280 does have a slightly smaller head, this being a 310cc head. But for off the tea, which is where I’ve predominantly struggled for quite some time. I have like hot days and then I have really really cold horrible days. And the really cold horrible days really aren’t that good. But you can see here on the second hole, I can just play a lovely kind of low shot down the left side of that fairway. That’s absolute perfection. But then say if I wanted to launch up in the air a little bit. I really wanted to go after one cuz so far they’re a little bit of like guidy swings. I’ve guided one down the right. I’ve guided one down the left. If I throw it on a slightly higher teeg and really move that ball position just slightly forward, get that sternum back, then I feel like I can launch it at a higher level. I can get that spin rate down slightly. I can hit shots just like that one. So, you can see again down that left hand side. I actually struck that quite towy, but again, it’s down the left side of that fairway. It’s launched a little bit higher. Now, when I say launch higher, that launched a bit higher. It’s not the exact shot I wanted, but part of why I love this club so much, part of why it’s staying in my bag for probably until Taylor made release another mini driver, to be brutally honest, is that when I’m unhappy with a shot, the shot is still in play. The shot is still doing what I want it to do. It’s still working for me. You see, both of those shots work nicely right to left. And that again something which I’ve worked quite hard on. And then that’s the perfect shot that probably I bet that only pitches around 230 but I bet it runs out close to 270 280 which are my actual driver numbers as well. So far when it comes to this club I am struggling to find negatives and I’m quite a positive person anyway. But whenever I struggle to find a negative about a golf club does it mean it’s perfect? Can Tailor Made improve on this? That’s going to be the big question moving forward. Okay, so what are some of the key negatives about this drive? Because a long-term review is only a long-term review if we have some feedback as well. So, one of the things I will say is I’ve been quite happy talking about being 10, 15, sometimes 20 yards behind my playing partners, but often such as here on a par five. Does that mean we can’t get on in two? If we talk strokes gained percentage, ideally the further up we hole we are, the more likely we are to birdie the hole and obviously shoot a better score. But if I can hit three fairways here with this Ret narrow back here, Chris, is it by the way? Yes, very narrow. A lot narrower than what I thought it would be. Does that mean that I’m more likely to birdie the hole? You can see there again a lovely fade this time. just starting in the center of the fairway fading back and it’s short of the bunkers actually whereas if I were to hit a fulls size drive those bunkers actually come in play you can see I’ve struck that quite bottomy and we still had quite a bit of forgiveness one of the things I’m really interested in and when I went to the guys at SGT for a bit of a retro fitting with this driver some of the ball speeds I would get were up towards the 160s now for me with a proper driver proper full length shaft and nine and a half degree 160 is about my ball speed generally so I don’t feel like I’m losing too much ball speed and into the wind here on the par five that we can just feel can I am I more beneficial to hit that nice low penetrating shot even that one that one’s not even pitched the fairway but it’s now bundling down the fairway and I’ve hit that here so days like today where I just don’t have the driver swing that I want to have I don’t have the skill set to be able to hit the fullsize driver. That’s where this comes into play. That’s where maybe I’m relying on this a little bit too much, but I’ve always thought if you have a club in the golf bag you can rely on, it builds confidence. It makes you feel more at one with yourself and it makes you feel like you’re much more likely to play good golf. Right, that’s two fairways hit, albeit one a little bit further back. I would have hate to have seen that last swing with a proper driver. And that is an absolute bullet again down the center of this fairway. Guys, get in the comments below, what do you think to this Tailor Made R seven Mini Driver? Is it a club that you could see yourselves putting in the bag this year or even next year if you find yourself a bit of a a deal? But apart from that, I’ll leave it in your guys’ capable hands to get in the comments. Let me know what you think.

I’ll find one of these, or the Burner. I actually tipped a 100X bubble shaft with a TM adjustable tip. I’d love to hit one of these with that shaft. I’d play one of these! I play a TSI3 9°, TSR3 15°, and a 19° 913 hybrid. Back up driver, and I play it more often, is a 2017 M2.
You could get a 11 degree driver and cut the shaft down , if you want to hit Fairways James
I've got the R7 Quad mini driver in my bag and it's there to stay! Picked it up for $325 in an online Whatnot auction and it's absolutely the BEST CLUB in my bag! My previous mini was the Taylormade 300 series which I sold to my buddy! He loved the stock shaft so much he bought another for his regular driver! 🐊🏌♂️⛳️🦅🇱🇷❤️
TaylorMade are my Kryptonite, I hate everything TM.
I bought one on eBay just to try it out. I hit driver pretty well aside from the occasional tops. The mini driver didn’t do it for me. Didn’t replace my 3w and I just hit driver better overall than the mini. I can see how it works for some swings.
I've got an original TaylorMade SLDR mini-driver, I was given it by a friend who could not get on with it. It's an absolute fairway finder despite looking a bit battered around the edges.
I have always wanted a mini driver.. but I would if a driving iron would be more versitile.. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I have a Vice driver. I love my 14.5 four year old Ping three wood.
Love taylormade fairway woods and hybrids.
Hate taylormade irons and drivers…
Bought an original r7 quad back in the day and hated it after about 2 rounds.
Also bought a t steel 5 wood and Its still in my bag.
Wish the face didn’t sit closed…
James …explain why this is better then copper colour burner previous model mate …is it just confidence I don't see how they are different really 🤷…used to have the old R7 quad driver what a driver that was
Also never understood how people find minis easier to hit 🤷 driver is what inch longer bigger surface area don't get it really
Who would love to see a RBZ white mini 🤔
I tried the Titleist 280 mini. It was spinning way too much for me. Still have my DIY TM 320Ti mini. I'm gonna put some lead tape in the back to add some weight and help launch, only 9.5°
As a senior golfer, I am a big fan of the mini driver. I opted for the 13 degree and have taken my big driver and 3 wood out of my bag with great results. I hit the mini off the turf much easier than I hit my 3 wood and only lose 15 yards off my Titleist driver. I am pleased I made the decision to go with the mini.
James, I have the copper coloured burner mini but really like the look of the R7 and the weights. If you decide it’s not staying in your bag, would you like my address in Riyadh ? 😅😅
Will be getting fitted in the spring for a new driver , this is on the list!
I dont really get why you wouldn't just use a 3 wood. Its the same benifits that you say you get from the r7 but then you can hit it off the deck and a more versatile club.
I understand when you get clubs for nothing you can chop and change but most golfers dont have that luxury.
Complete scam. 3 wood is more versatile and same distance. Mini is just a fad.
James, what’s the difference between a mini driver and a 3 wood?
Stunning looking mini driver and I can’t see what Taylormade bring out next in the mini driver series
"1:32 Under embargo and I haven't seen it yet?" Your eyes quickly look away. My ass you haven't seen it😂
IMHO, 300cc should be the max for any driver size. Yeah, I use a 460cc driver. But I would be perfectly fine if the size limit was 300cc. There should also be a max length of a club. Maybe 43”. That would help the game of golf for sure and protect these older courses. All of it would reduce costs.
I recently took out my old Callaway Steelhead woods. They can be played. Pros shouldn’t have an issue. No they do not go as far for sure.
I have the BRNR mini and G430 10k. One is for when I need the fairway and don’t mind being a little further back. Couldn’t live without it!
Hmmm..280, 300 cc is what the old Callaway GBB and biggest bertha were. If it works for you great but I have a dark speed 3 wood with titanium face that can be turned down to 11.5. Is it really better or just marketing hype. Just swing hard… you might hit something.
Played the R7 Mini Driver all season, 11.5* model. I did put a longer shaft in it, about 1" shorter than a standard driver. Fantastic golf club. I don't hit it off the fairway, not enough speed for that so it's basically a driver replacement. Love your videos. Cheers from Canada
I thought the Tour FW1 from Eleven Golf blew your mind this year?
I assume taylormade just released a load more of this model compared to the burners, that's why it's still available. Throughly recommend these clubs 👌
Pros use clubs like that for years and years so why don't we? Once they become a trusted club it should stay in the bag until a fitting shows me something better is out there to replace it.
That shot tracer is off
I just had an inch trimmed from my PXG driver, and it was superior to the Mini Driver when I hit it at the store.
I have the r7 mini driver and a stealth 2 driver in the bag but always start the round with the r7 and if I find I'm hitting it well will then bring the stealth into play. I've found it has given me a lot more confidence in finding the fairway and at this time of year that is crucial. The r7 will be in my bag for a while and can't see it changing any time soon.
I seriously considered one of these, particularly nostalgia as had the R7 quad (best made claimed it & still nails it!). But bought the Qi35 instead & love it, gained 20 yards from my old Ping G LSTec (older & slower now) and it’s brilliant, plus it goes straight more often than not. Also gone for their 5,7 & 9 woods so no room for the new R7… for now..
If they don't release a m1 mini driver… I have lost faith in humanity
Bought a TM 300 Mini in 13.5 loft. It just keeps me in play and is something that off a tight tee I feel confident striking and putting myself in a good position for a decent 2nd shot
I have the r7 quad mini and love it, I struggle to hit a driver well and find with the r7 gives me alot more confidence and control. I will be upgrading my clubs this year but this will be staying in my bag
Depends what you use it for !! Is it a driver replacement or a 3 wood replacement !!
I’d always exchange distance for fairways off the tee box. I used to play a 2 wood that was 13° off the deck and would hit it from the tee on tight holes so this seems like we are going back 20 years.
I have tried all the 2025 drivers to see if I get a bit more distance but unable to get more yardage than my G410 12 degree I would try a mini but is it worth spending £300 plus I am 76
I’d love one but but there’s no chance of me getting one.
It's still $350 used, no way.
If I hit it as bad as you mate I definitely won't be buying it 🤣
It's in my bag and I can't see it coming out. As you said, when not warmed up/loose on the first tee, it works for that safe down the middle shot. I actually use mine for the first 3 drives of the round, which are all tight and have danger left and right. I then pull out driver on an open fairway for the next 2. If it's having a good day well and good. If not I just go back to the R7. I can get the same distance out of it as an average driver and if I nail driver it's still only 15-20 back. Seriously thinking of buying another one to keep for when this one is banged up in 5 to 7 years. Oh and lastly, I love it off the deck.
My experience was that it had a draw bias. I don’t play the mini off the deck and I got more distance and control from the Elyte mini…
