For the first time ever, a former LIIV golf player has officially earned a PGA Tour card. And the historic moment has received a warm nod of approval from none other than Phil Mickelson. Lorie Caner, who played his last LIIV event less than two years ago, has carved out a unique place in golf history by securing one of the 10 PGA Tour card awarded through the DP World Tour rankings. The Englishman produced a stellar finish to his season, capped off by a tied third result at the DP World Tour Championship on Sunday, clinching full PGA Tour status for 2026. His achievement means he will become the first former LIIV golfer to compete full-time on the PGA Tour. Caner did feature at the Players Championship in Genesis Scottish Open earlier this year, but 2026 will mark his first full season on the American Circuit. After sealing his card, Caner received plenty of praise, including from Mickelson, his former colleague on L Ivy. Taking to X, Mickelson wrote, “Canter has worked endlessly on his game, and his success is welld deserved.” Lee Westwood, Caner’s former Mageix teammate, also applauded the milestone, but the veteran raised concerns about an issue that has caused debate for over a year. the tour’s threat to suspend Caner if he had earned a PGA Tour card through the 2024 DP World Tour standings. This was despite Caner never having been a PGA Tour member. Caner ultimately missed out last year before finally cracking the top 10 in 2025, avoiding the suspension complication altogether. Reacting on social media, Westwood questioned the tour’s stance, writing, “Brilliant for Lori, but I still fail to see the logic behind being banned from something that you’ve never been a member of.
