LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – In a matter of days, the Laredo City Council is set to make a significant decision: whether to formally extend an invitation to President Trump for a round of golf in Laredo.
This initiative comes from District Six Council Member, Dr. Tyler King, who recently announced his intention to add this item to the council’s agenda. Dr. King proposes that the President be invited to play at the Max A. Mandel Golf Course.
“It’s a beautiful course right on the Rio Grande River. I’d like him to see; I’d like him to see it. I’d like him to play it. I’d like him to see that, you know, the border can be a peaceful place, and I hope he’ll accept that invitation if the council does decide to extend it to him. And he’s been here before, but another round at the World Trade Bridge and downtown Laredo and see for himself the potential that we have here in Laredo,” King said.
This development closely follows a special City Council meeting that addressed the controversial removal of the “Defund the Wall” mural. Dr. King has stated that his objective behind this invitation is to convey to the President and his administration that alternative approaches to border security, beyond a physical wall, might be more effective.
The City Council meeting where this will be discussed is scheduled for Monday at 5:30 PM and will take place in the City Hall Chambers.
