Rich dudes with $60k clubs trying to flex on other rich dudes with “only” $40k clubs

My wife got a hand me down 3 wood very similar to this. Her mom is an LPGA pro and huge bargain hunter so I’m sure she got it at least 50% off.

Someone i know are using this. 10k usd for a set of irons.

  4. Forsaken-Carpenter13

Most of my students here in Vietnam use them. I have one young man that has a 5 star set. Over 60k. Whenever I hit them I can’t feel anything special about them

It has very little to do with performance, everything to do with flexing money. Just like with many designer apparel pieces, it’s the irl version of expensive in game cosmetics. People will buy them, even in the cases when they look like shit, just because of the flex.

Those aren’t even the most expensive ones haha. They offer a 5 star set. 62,000 usd for the 5 star irons only 🤣

They are a status symbol in Japan. Like driving a Gwagon or a Porsche or a Bently in the US.

Asians, which I am, use them a lot, but not at that price point.

Got paired with a random once on a normal but nice county course who had a whole bag of Honma Beres 3. They were beautiful.

I have a normal Honma Driver TW757 and it’s super clean and minimalist but performs pretty well. It was only $250 new though as it’s about 3-5 years since release. I haven’t seen these ones.

  10. People who want to flex their money, not their score.

I don’t think they invented any club to make me a better golfer so this would be definitely a waste of money

    BUT

    My wife doesn’t know that yet… 🙂

Go to Los Verdes behind my house. Tons of Asians playing full sets of these clubs with remote control push carts. I see it all day and am like, “how” and “why?” Most of them at 20+ handicaps but retired and just have a lot of money and it’s a status thing we their golf groups.

  13. PersonalityNarrow211

Played with a guy at Ala wai municipal which is a shitty track. Guy had the 5 star honma’s top to bottom. He had said it was 100k for the personalized set. He was a Japanese fishing exec.

  14. Fun_Emu4148

Not trying to be racist or funny but I’ve only seen older Asian dudes play these.

  15. Umbramors

I know someone who paid €35k for his Honma clubs.

Finance advisor 4hcp. Says he doesn’t play better, but his clients expect him to be successful, so he has them as a kind of status symbol 🤷‍♂️

Had a brand new 3 wood I bought at an charity auction, took it to the range, actually took the plastic off the head and shaft at the range third ball the head goes flying off, I’m not the greatest golfer but all hits struck the club head, I know it was a new club because my brother was the rep or Homana, so very expensive with poor quality.

  17. Fit_Membership_3086

Old rich dudes whom hit driver on a 130 yards par 3. And still missing short

  18. In Japan, businessmen play golf together when striking deals. They like to impress eachother by having flashy or gold plated clubs. Honma Beres are common. They’re more of a status symbol but still a functional club.

  19. MizunoMP5s

Those are quite affordable as far as Beres goes.
That being said, in my 30 years + playing here in Japan I’ve never seen them in the wild.

No “serious” player would bag them.

  20. In Canada normally some of the rich Chinese guys use them . it’s more of a status symbol ,once in a while I see brand new Chinese golfers using them at the range and it hurts my soul

  21. HARhoads716

If that’s Yen, it’s $1500 for the driver, is that a lot?

  22. darti_me

They’re meant to be gifts or status symbols. Very relevant in most Asian cultures. These 4/5 stars are most commonly found in the bags of CEOs, politicians and generals. If you’re rocking these you’re either filthy rich or fucking corrupt

  23. WYLFriesWthat

The Koreans at my local muni are the only ones I’ve seen who play them. At my club it’s mostly banged-up workhorse clubs in sun-bleached bags.

  24. Legal-Description483

    Honma Beres are status symbols.

Their TW line are great clubs for good players. I have a set of TW747 fairways than I got for about $100 each, and will be in my bag for a long time.
