Pickleball is quickly becoming the new hub for corporate networking, with companies increasingly swapping long golf outings for the faster, more dynamic sport, according to Bloomberg. While golf traces its origins back to the 15th and 16th centuries, it only became a corporate favourite in the 20th century. Now, that long-standing tradition is being challenged by pickleball because of its pace, accessibility, and modern appeal that draw today’s professionals to the court instead.
The main purpose for companies to meet outside the office is to create a relaxed, neutral environment that helps in networking, as it boosts trust, creativity and communication. Also, off-site settings eliminate workplace distractions, offer more privacy, and make it easier to hold discreet discussions.
For decades, golf dominated corporate culture because it offered long, uninterrupted hours for conversation and exclusive club facilities for post-game meetings. But pickleball’s rise, driven by its speed, accessibility, affordability and growing cultural appeal, is reshaping how professionals connect.
Pickleball offers far greater inclusivity, unlike golf, which is often viewed as a sport for the socially elite and those who can afford its high costs. On a pickleball court, professionals from all levels of business mix easily. The sport’s rapid rise in popularity has also made it a far trendier choice for modern networking, while golf increasingly carries an outdated image.
Businesses now prefer pickleball for its quick games and upbeat atmosphere, allowing for efficient, engaging and modern networking sessions. As the game becomes more popular across the world, with many mid-career professionals taking up the sport, pickleball has become the new hub for deal-making, networking and collaboration.
