Golf Companies DESPISE this Wedge Design #golf #golfequipment #golfgear

This is one of them things where you wonder why it never caught on or why they stopped making them
.
Then you remember how many sets of new wedges companies sell with new ones being released every year and it doesn’t take much to realise how much out of pocket the companies would be if people only had to buy one set of wedges and then just replaced the grooves every now and then 😂
.
Interestingly this was actually Padraig Harringtons invention that he sold to taylormade in around 2008. He claims he is still going through the faces now which he uses for practice and just replaces them when they need doing
.
Apparently part of the reason that taylormade stopped making them was because they felt like it’s hard getting the average golfer to even clean their grooves let alone buy new ones when the old ones wore out
.
They also come with the potential of dirt and debris getting stuck in the slots which could then cause the face to become stuck
.
How I see it is that there’s a couple of minor downsides that come along with it but if they were to run with the idea I’m sure they could have fixed them as they went along. From a business perspective it probably doesn’t make sense
.
I am speculating as there isn’t that much info on them so if anyone knows another reason why they stopped this design then it would be interesting to know!
