Kai Trump, the 18-year-old granddaughter of United States President Donald Trump, missed the cut at the The Annika LPGA tournament at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, on Friday.
After shooting a 13-over 83 in Thursday’s first round, Trump finished with a five-over 75 in the second round, placing her last in the 108-golfer field with an overall score of 18-over when she entered the clubhouse.
At the time Trump’s second round ended, the tournament leaders were as follows:
10. Seven golfers tied: -4
After recording nine bogeys, two double bogeys and no birdies in the opening round, Trump had a bit more success in Round 2.
On the par-three third, Trump made the first birdie of her young LPGA Tour career, which put her at one-under for the round at the time:
A bogey and triple bogey followed on the next two holes, but Trump bounced back with another birdie on the par-five seventh.
Then, following bogeys on the eighth and 10th, Trump had back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th.
Trump finished her round with a double bogey, a bogey and two pars over her final four holes.
The Annika marked the first-ever LPGA appearance for Trump, who accepted a sponsor exemption.
Per Reuters, Trump is ranked only 461st in the American Junior Golf Association rankings, which suggests she is a long way off from being competitive against professionals.
That much was evident during The Annika, but it doesn’t mean Trump can’t have a bright future in golf.
She has committed to play collegiate golf at the University of Miami starting next year, and if Trump is able to develop and improve her game, perhaps another LPGA Tour appearance could be in her future.
