Unfortunately, I believe many of my fellow Americans feel entitlement for this behavior. I'm ashamed of the behavior and worry for the personality of our country my children and grandchildren will have to bear.

Why is everyone talking like this is the first time ever that a tense, rivalry situation has occurred ? In its 100yr history, the Ryder Cup must have had many occasions when competition was close and so games were tense ? But this is Golf…..not Football. Etiquette applies to the crowd, as well as the players. ( Bit like it does watching Snooker ? )
IN THE PAST…..WE handled it and kept emotions under control. WE did not behave like unruly children left alone for a moment, when teacher is out of the class. We made comments of course, but without foul and very person language AND at a more appropriate moments in the game.
TODAY however……people dont care about "control." Today is more selfish and ignorant, set in the belief that, "if I want to do something, I CAN and nobody can stop me…its my right. AND I'm really funny !!! " Hence we get the vile, low-life we saw and heard this weekend in NY.

First step the next time they have the cup in the US would be to manage the crowd by reducing the crowd so it can be controlled. You can't control a mob even when it's 10% of the people buried inside the total spectator field. The behavior has generally been degrading at this spectacle.
You know who's tougher than a beligerent New York sports fan? The chair umpire at the US Open tennis tournament. The player doesn't serve until the crowd is quiet. They could have done this on the first hole of the very first day at Bethpage. And if no player tees off, the crowd will shout down the hecklers. The Ryder Cup management simply let the crowd run the event. If it was a disaster. The disaster is on them. Condemning New York sports fans for the behavior of a few out of control fans is silly. And unproductive. Let the US Open tennis people do crowd control next time. And you'll see a different outcome.
