That is not at all, how I was expecting this golf ball to work

trying to figure out how reflective golf balls are made. Now, this is a Crowax golf ball. And if you can’t really tell by the name, that means it is kind of chrome. And when you take a look at it here, it’s like reflectiveish looking. You can see all of the stamping on the golf ball is actually like reflected back on it. So, I wanted to figure out exactly how they do this because golf balls are usually made with just an outer shell layer and then like an inner shell, maybe a mantel layer. But this one, it’s got this weird chrome effect and that’s actually supposed to help you see the golf ball a lot better when you’re out on the course. When you take a look inside here, you can see you’ve got an outer shell layer and then just an inner core. So, I wanted to see exactly what was going on to make it reflective because that shouldn’t do that. So, I cut it into like a wedge. That way, I would be able to peel it off and maybe see if I can actually pop out that inner core layer there, which is, by the way, really soft, like a great soft feeling golf ball. And I was able to peel it away. And what’s inside is shocking. So, on the core, you’ve got like a waxy layer there that’s super thin. And then on the outer shell, we’ve actually got like a mirror reflective surface there, which is what’s giving it that chrome feeling.

  1. That’s what I expected tbh. Chrome under transparent material is a real unique and identifiable effect. Looking forward to whatever you cut open next!
