Finland’s president tells the AP that Trump is “a pretty good golfer”

A former senior American military official in Europe told me that he thinks President Trump might be a little bit scared of you because you’re taller, fitter, and a better golfer. I don’t I I I don’t know. I think we’re about the same height. Uh we have an age difference obviously, but I I’d still put Trump as a pretty good golfer. I think better than me. So I, you know, Even though you had a golf scholarship in the US. Yeah. Yeah. But I stopped playing for 35 years. My dad told me when when I was aspiring to become a professional that you know Alex even if you don’t become a professional golf will come in handy at some stage in your life. But of course he was right because for me the the biggest door opener was around with the president of the United States. For someone from a small country to spend pretty much seven hours with uh you know breakfast and lunch included with the president of the United States is a big thing. Um, and and yeah, I enjoy golf, but no, he’s not afraid of me. I mean, he’s uh he’s the most powerful man in the world. Do you think then that that relationship you have, maybe perhaps more in private than in public, allows you to actually sway his thinking? I think anyone who knows President Trump, uh, he is actually a very curious person. He asks you a lot of questions but then at the end of the day there’s only one person in that country making the decisions and that’s the president of the United States u himself. self.

When it comes to dealing with U.S. President Donald Trump, Finnish President Alexander Stubb is in a better position than many European leaders. In his youth, he studied in the United States on a golf scholarship, and the two spent about seven hours playing a round at Mar-a-Lago in March.
