I bought Takomo 101T’s. They hit so well and I like how I can shape them better. However, they are a bit heavier. Well, a lot heavier that I’m used to.

My last set of irons (M6) were KBS S Max (85g)
My Takomo’s are True Temper Dynamic Gold x100 X-Stiff (120g)

I hit them pretty good, but what I don’t know is since they’re a bit heavier and they’re X-Stiffs, what misses would I expect because of the weight difference and the upgrade to x-stiff?

I’m not 100% but I believe x1’s are 130g, so a pretty decent change from an 85g shaft.
Is reshafting to a lighter KBS feasible for you since that’s what you’re used to?

    Grip it and rip it!

But seriously, check how your ball flight changes (height, spin, landing angle, etc.). You might see your ballflight become a little more fade biased and lower. X-flex may also not flex toe down as much into impact so you might need a lie adjustment. Don’t be scared off by the weight though. You might loose a few yards but gain a lot of consistency. Irons used to be heavier than they are today. A heavier club tends to swing itself better than a lightweight one. The industry pushed lighter weight clubs to sell distance but I think that also just further encouraged golfers into bad swing habits. It is harder to come over the top with heavier clubs. That mass wants to fall behind the hands (shallow) and track the plane. If it is really too stiff for you and you struggle to load the shaft or square the face, then consider re-shafting

By the way, I am not a fast swinger of the club. 7 iron about 85 mph. I play X100s because I love the weight, trajectory, and the solid feel at impact. Could I get another 3-5 yards with S300? Yes, but it would balloon more and bring left into play more often. Until I get older and cant load the shaft anymore, I will stick to x flex irons.

The stiffer the shaft the draw pull miss is more likely.

It’s all about tempo dynamics with the golf swing. If you have an lighter shaft, are you more likely to pull or have the head behind you? I think most high handicappers would assume whippier would lead to a left miss, but it’s the opposite. You need to be more delicate with lighter equiopment

You have to go with swing speed. Maybe heavier shaft is better for you anyway. You don’t want to go too light either

This is all helpful information. I’ve had buyers remorse since buying them because others are saying that my clubs are pretty heavy.

Are there specific strength workouts I can do more of to help hold the club longer without fatigue?

  6. Loved mine, until I passed 50 years old and was only playing 1x a month. Still have them, if only for the memories 🙂
