ABILENE – Abilene Christian men’s golf inked Jaxson Henegar and Matthew Lewis as members of its 2026 signing class, head coach Tom Shaw announced last week.
Henegar joins the Wildcats from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. He stands in 209th in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association rankings as the 19th-ranked golfer in Texas and the 103rd-ranked prospect in the class of 2026. Henegar ranks 13th amongst Texans in his signing class.
“Jaxson Henegar is a tremendous addition to our program,” Shaw said. “He burst onto the scene this summer with impressive finishes in elite, high-level events. Jaxson thrives in big moments and is only beginning to unlock his immense potential.
“The Abilene Christian experience is the ideal fit for Jaxson, empowering him to excel athletically, academically, and spiritually — values that deeply resonated with Jaxson and his family throughout the recruiting process. I am excited to have him join our team next year — he will make a huge impact for us.”
Henegar qualified as an individual for the 2025 UIL 5A Boys’ Golf State Tournament after winning the 5A Region II tournament at 8-under par. He became the first boys’ golfer from Dallas ISD to win a regional tournament this century.
Henegar went on to log top-four placements at the C.T. Pan Junior Championship and the C.T. Pan Foundation Junior Championship this past July. He shot 3-under 213 at both events. Henegar also tied for 13th place at the AJGA Junior at Ratliff Ranch presented by Discover Odessa at 4-under 140 in the summer.
Lewis hails from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas, where he qualified as an individual for the 2025 UIL 6A Boys’ Golf State Tournament. He is a three-time district champion and has set the single-round scoring record for his school at 65.
“Matthew ranks among the elite talents in Texas for his class,” Shaw said. “A dynamic athlete, he elevates his game in clutch moments — a hallmark of championship pedigree. With a proven track record of stellar scores, Matthew is poised to make an immediate impact on our roster.
“What truly sets our program apart — the unparalleled opportunities for growth athletically, academically and spiritually — strongly aligned with the values of Matthew and his family. He will be an exceptional fit and ambassador for Abilene Christian University.”
Lewis carries over 20 junior golf victories to his name, including the Fort Worth City Championship in a playoff this past July. Lewis is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Tarrant County.
“I chose ACU because I wanted a school where I will grow in my faith and also get a very good education while playing the sport I have dedicated my life to,” Lewis said. “I love the smaller school environment that is structured around Christ. I also love the world-class golf facilities and coaching staff.”
Lewis’ mother, Abbey Lewis, played volleyball at Lindenwood University, and his father, Shane Lewis, wrestled at Lindenwood. Lewis’ uncle, Robb Catalano, played baseball at St. Edward’s University.
