Charlie Woods, son of golfing legend Tiger Woods, has shown he’s a chip off the old block by sinking a birdie on his final hole to secure a school championship. His proud father Tiger and mother Elin Nordegren were there to witness the victory. The 16-year-old prodigy tied for the lowest final round of the day, helping Benjamin School clinch its second FHSAA Class 1A team title in three years.
A birdie on the last saw him card a four under par 68 at Florida’s Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, securing victory for his private Palm Beach school over The First Academy. Woods’ final round matched that of First Academy senior Mingbo Jiang, who took home the individual title by three shots, ahead of Woods’ Benjamin School team-mate Andrew Tsar. Woods finished the tournament tied for fourth at two under par.
His father, 15-time Major winner and golfing icon Tiger Woods, was present throughout the tournament, closely following his son’s performance.
The 49-year-old former World No. 1 has high expectations for Charlie, who is following in his world-famous father’s footsteps.
The young golfer has quickly climbed the junior golf rankings this year, winning May’s AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational before tying ninth at the Junior PGA Championship.
He was also recently named a first-team AJGA Rolex Junior All-American, ranking ninth in the AJGA rankings. He is AJGA’s highest-ranked 2027 recruit yet to commit to a college despite being eligible to speak to college coaches since June 15 this year.
Golf Channel claim several leading schools are eager to recruit Woods, with Florida State among the frontrunners.
He faces a monumental task in matching his father’s extraordinary accomplishments, though.
Tiger Woods, a Stanford University alumnus, has claimed an incredible 82 PGA Tour victories alongside his 15 Major Championship successes and held the World No. 1 ranking for 683 weeks, establishing himself as a global sporting legend.
Following his victory at the TaylorMade Invitational in May, Charlie Woods reflected: “It means so much because I haven’t really performed at the highest level yet. And to finally do it after all the work I have put in, and not playing well in big events in the past.
“Even though I know I am so much better than that, and for it all to finally come together is such a great feeling. Just being able to say to myself that I have won an absolutely amazing event and say that I have performed under high-pressure situations is huge going forward.
“I haven’t been able to say that I have done that, and now that I can, it is a big thing for my mental game going forward.”
The promising youngster would have drawn additional confidence from having both parents present for his latest success.
Tiger Woods and Nordegren married in 2004 before their relationship ended six years later.
In March 2025, Woods made public his relationship with Vanessa Trump, the former daughter-in-law of US President Donald Trump. Vanessa Trump was previously married to Donald Trump Jnr for 13 years before their divorce in 2018.
