With his famous father walking around in the gallery only a month removed from a seventh back surgery, Charlie Woods shot the day’s low round and led his Benjamin School (Palm Beach, Fla.) squad to a second FHSAA Class 1A title.

Tiger Woods was in tow as Charlie, a junior, shot a four-under-par 68 on Saturday at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, and Benjamin scored a five-shot victory in the two-day event. The school won the state championship two years ago when Charlie was a freshman.

Woods, who has yet to make a choice for his college, tied First Academy senior Mingbo Jiang, a USC commit, for the day’s best score. It was Jiang who won the state individual title by three shots over Benjamin’s Andrew Tsar. Woods, 16, scored two under overall and tied for fourth.

The high school victory continues a strong junior golf run of late for Woods, who ranks ninth in the AJGA rankings (fourth in the Class of 2027) and was recently named a first-team AJGA Rolex Junior All-American.

Tiger Woods’ appearance at the state tournament was an encouraging sign. The 15-time major winner underwent lumbar disk replacement surgery in his L4/L5 vertebrae on Oct. 10, and at the time he said, “I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”

There have been no public updates since then on Woods’ health status or a timetable for his return to competitive golf.
