At the tender age of 16, Charlie Woods stepped into the limelight and delivered a performance reminiscent of his father’s competitive spirit, 15-time major champion Tiger Woods.

Over the weekend, Woods tied for the lowest final round of the day, leading The Benjamin School to its second Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 1A team title in three years.

The young golfer, whose success has highlighted Kai Trump’s recent struggles, scored a 4-under 68 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, including a birdie on the last hole that secured the win for his team. It comes as Tiger Woods was pictured for the first time following back surgery.

Entering the state finals as the top seed after a strong regional qualifier, The Benjamin School saw Woods’ final round surge help them overtake The First Academy by five shots, securing the 2025 title.

As a group, the team finished four strokes under par, the only team to post under-par in the challenging state finals field.

On an individual level, Woods tied for 4th at 2-under, just behind medalist Mingbo Jiang and teammate Andrew Tsar. Tiger Woods himself was seen walking the course through the round from the gallery.

However, Tiger has made it clear that he doesn’t want Charlie to be compared to him, stating, “He’s a kid. Don’t compare him to me because he’s not me. He’s Charlie.”

Charlie’s season has been nothing short of a breakout, even beyond the state championship spotlight. In May, he clinched his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, finishing at 15-under and defeating several highly ranked juniors.

His impressive performance earned him a spot on the AJGA Rolex Junior All-America First Team and a current No. 9 ranking among juniors, as well as 4th among the Class of 2027.

For Woods, success at the high-school level is bringing both individual achievement and team glory. His school’s previous state title came when he was a freshman, and this year’s win marks their second in three seasons.

With his AJGA success, top-10 ranking, and now a major state high-school title to his credit, he is increasingly viewed as one of the most promising recruits in his class.

While he hasn’t publicly committed to a college program yet, recruiting interest from SEC and ACC schools is reported to be strong.
