The Sun Devil men’s golf fall of 2025 signing class has a chance to make a real impact in in the future.
Not just starting in fall of 2026, but this coming January, when the seventh-ranked Sun Devils step to the tee.
Head coach Matt Thurmond already announced that Oscar Couilleau will join the squad in the fall of 2026, and waiting for him on that roster will be fall signees Raul Gomez Montalva (Valencia, Spain) and Bryan Newman (Johannesburg, South Africa) who have signed and are ready to go when the calendars turns to 2026 this January as ASU begins its 11-tournamet schedule at the Copper Cup in California in late January.
What Raul says
“I want to express my gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to join the Arizona State University men’s golf team starting in January. I sincerely thank coaches Matt Thurmond and Thomas Sutton for giving me this opportunity to fulfill my dream,” says Raul. “Becoming a Sun Devil has been my motivation to work hard every day. It’s truly incredible to join a team with such extraordinary players and to be part of one of the most successful college golf programs in the world. I can’t wait for my first day! Let’s go, Devils!”
What the coach says
“It is hard to believe that last fall was the first time since spring 2011 that we didn’t have a Spaniard on this team,” says Thurmond of the history that includes names like Ballester, Rahm and Canizares to name a few. “Raul accelerated his schooling to get here as soon as possible and I’m so glad he’s joining in January. He has explosive potential and upside, played at a high level over many years and we see him having big success carrying on the great tradition of Spanish Sun Devils.”
