Despite a rocky start to her LPGA debut, teenage golfer Kai Trump has a promising future in the sport, according to her caddie Allan Kournikova.

Over the weekend, 18 year old Trump, granddaughter of US President Donald Trump, made her first appearance at the Annika tournament in Florida. With her mother, Vanessa Trump, who is currently dating Tiger Woods, by her side, the young golfer faced some challenges.

In her debut – which she was making early thanks to a sponsor invite – Trump didn’t make the cut after scoring 83 and 75, ending up last in the 108-player field at the close of the second round. She had a classy reaction, however.

Given her lack of experience, Trump’s initial struggles were not unexpected. However, her caddie, Kournikova, brother of tennis legend Anna Kournikova, remains optimistic about her future in golf, especially if she decides to pursue it full-time.

“I’m really excited to see what’s ahead, because if she wants to pursue her career in this game, she can play at the highest level in my opinion,” Kournikova shared.

He added: “As far as talent goes, she’s got as much talent as anyone.

“I think it’s raw talent as of now. I told her when we were walking off the green, I said, ‘Can you imagine if you did this every week, just how comfortable you’d be?'”.

“I mean, these girls come here, it’s like a 9-to-5 for them. They’re clocking in, they show up, they play, they leave. 20 weeks a year they’re doing this. This is our first time.”

Trump confessed after her performance that she was “really nervous”, and believed those nerves significantly affected her.

“For the first day I was definitely really nervous. I think the nerves just got to me,” she expressed.

“When I went out there today I felt very calm and peaceful to be honest with you. That’s why I played better.”
