DUBAI (November 16, 2025) – In a stunning conclusion, former Wildcat Matt Fitzpatrick finished his season with a win at the DP World Tour Championship, defeating Rory McIlroy in a playoff for his third career win at the event.

Fitzpatrick trailed by three strokes with six to play, carding three birdies on his final six holes with a six-under 66 in his final round to set the clubhouse lead at 18-under. McIlroy eagled the final hole to force a playoff, but Fitzpatrick would take advantage on the first hole, utilizing a difficult up-and-down to secure the victory.

“It means the world,” Fitzpatrick said after the round. “I struggled at the start of the year obviously and to turn it around in the summer like I did and have the Ryder Cup like I did… I mean what a feeling.”

Fitzpatrick caught fire over the summer, beginning with an eighth-place showing at the PGA Championship in May. From there, Fitzpatrick took eight top-10 finishes to conclude his season, including fourth place at both the Genesis Scottish Open and 153rd Open Championship, sixth at the British Masters and fifth at both the Omega European Masters and the BMW PGA Championship.

In September, Fitzpatrick played a large role in Europe’s victory at the Ryder Cup, guiding the team to the first away victory since 2012 alongside captain and fellow Wildcat Luke Donald.

Fitzpatrick’s win at the DP World Tour Championship marks his 12th worldwide win, and his first since the 2023 RBC Heritage.

“It’s a win for everyone, it really is,” Fitzpatrick said. “Everyone in the team has really come together and I couldn’t be happier. In that down period, I had the support of my wife and my friends and family. To turn it around and be here now is very special.”
