This Fault Is The Number 1 Cause Of BAD GOLF SHOTS

so in today’s video we’re going to cover what is probably the most common cause of bad shots that i see from the amateur golfers that i try and help and that is perfect [Music] so welcome to the first video in a four part series in association with the hangar where we’re really going to help you with your long game and your short game give me some simple drills that you can do to improve your golf today we’re starting with the full swing and we’re gonna cover probably the common reason that you hit bad shots if you’re someone who struggles with direction or strike or distance there’s a very very good chance that we’re going to be covering the fault that’s causing that and we’re going to use the hanger to show you just how you can do it let’s quickly go through kind of what that fault is it’s really all to do with how you use your wrists in the golf swing if you can learn how to use your wrists better you will play better golf it is that simple what do we tend to see at setup well we tend to see this lead wrist taking this very natural position where there’s a little bit of shape a little bit of cup and you can see that there now what we would generally see from the best players the players that we aspire to be like the players that hit the ball better than us is that when they get to impact that lead wrist has gone from this cupped position to a flat position that is absolutely vital if you want to play good golf what that does it allows you to have some forward shuffling which helps you strike the ball get your low point where it needs to be controls the loft and it also means that we have a square or a neutral club face so so important what we tend to find is that those golfers will have this cupped wrist and by the time they get to the top it will be flat and you can see here that lead wrist is nice and flat what i then have to do is maintain that all the way down and into impact it’s not always what we see now once again in fact we often see the complete opposite we often see this wrist being in this very neutral position at the top we see almost the wrist has gone into a more cupped position you can see how there’s more shape in that lead wrist if i add shape that lead wrist i’m effectively opening the club face what these golfers will often then do is as they start down they will open the face even more as they start to yank and pull on the handle that wrist twists the opposite way club face gets extremely open halfway into the downswing now if you start to get that club face severely open in the downswing where you’ve got milliseconds where you hit the golf ball what’s going to happen well clearly you’re going to spend a lot of time looking for your golf balls in the right trees and the right rough or you’re going to start to make some really strange awkward movements into impact in an attempt to get that ball to go a bit straighter you might get it to go straight but you’re going to get some really awkward looking impacts in your strike your distance your consistency and not going to be there so the hangar is one of the best devices i’ve found to help train full swing right the way through to short games if you’d like to get your hands on one of these devices the hangar are giving 15 discount and you can use the link in the description box down below to get access to that and if you’re not happy there is also a full money back guarantee so how can the hangar help well this is one of my go-to training guys i use this all the time because it just helps with so much and obviously we’re looking today at how we can use it to help train the wrist this is going to give you some awareness and some feedback as to what you should be doing through your golf swing to control those wrists control that face and hit some better shots i’ve got this device on just in its standard position where the plastic club head here references the club head down there so i can check my alignment with this and when i take my normal hold onto the golf club the plastic part of the device at the top sits perfectly between my forearms now watch what happens when i move towards my impact condition the top of the hanger suddenly starts to press against the inside of my lead forearm and that tells me that my lead wrist is nice and flat nice and neutral and the club face is pointing down towards my target so what we would tend to see from the best players is that from setup when they get to the top the hanger will be pressed against the forearm if you struggle if you slice if you all the shots that we mentioned when you get to the top i’d almost guarantee that you will still have the device away from your forearm as you start down it’s still away from your forearm and as you get towards delivery position we still haven’t made contact it’s now far too late you’re going to slice the ball early release all those things that we don’t want to do so what you’re looking to do with this device is very early in that backswing put it against that lead forearm you can see how i took that setup position and during that takeaway i connected the two i get that feeling i get that sensation against my lead forearm and what that means is that club face is now beautifully controlled early in the goal seeing that club’s only moved three four five feet but i’ve got that club face under control what i can then do using the hanger as my reference i can move up to the top still feeling that connection work it down still feeling that connection and then i can rehearse all the way into impact again hanger against the forearm once i’ve rehearsed impact i can then go all the way through to my finished position so i can start to feel what i need to do to control the wrists like i said if you can control the club face so many good things happen and that’s what we’re really looking to do here so how would you begin well exactly in the way we’ve just done there i’m going to take my setup between the forearms connect it early keep on up to the top work it down and then i can go ahead to impact and then just chip the ball off the tape at this stage not looking for distance or looking for speed just looking to you know learn and understand what might well be you know new movements that you aren’t currently doing that feel a little bit alien to you feel a little bit strange but this is great way of practicing so many of you will take your address and throughout that whole golf swing you will never ever feel that device against your forearm if you make a golf swing and you do not feel that device against your forearm that should send those alarm bells off that your club face is open throughout your whole backswing throughout your whole downswing that is something we absolutely need to change this open face is often the cause of just almost all the shots i see your golf struggling with so we need to change that so once you’ve done a few of those you can start to improve the timing and the tempo so this time we’re going to go up and then through okay a little bit off the bottom of the club but again i’m just trying to learn and develop these fields once i then take this away i can try and make a golf thing where i’m just trying to replicate exactly what i’ve felt and sensed with that device so i can walk up to the top down club face under control work it through so if you want to eradicate many of the bad shots are in your game you need to be controlling your lead wrist your lead wrist is what controls the club face if we can control the club face we start to open up the chance of hitting much better shots much straighter shots much more solid shots with greater distance as well and the hangar can absolutely help you do that’s one of the best advisors i’ve found to help you train the lead wrist control the club face and hit better golf shots thanks for watching use your stuff is down below and hopefully we’ll see you back here again soon and make sure you check out video two come very very soon in this four part video series using the hangar

Do you want to eliminate bad golf shots from your game? Well this fault is likely to be causing them

This fault is the number 1 cause of your bad shots and I see it all too often on the lesson tee, the good news however is that you can fix it and in this video I show you just how to do that with the use of one of my favourite training aids, The Hanger.

The Hanger allows you to train your wrists throughout the golf swing meaning you can eradicate this fault and eradicate those bad golf shots from your game.

  1. Great looking tool but a tad overpriced even with a discount, guess they are relying on our obsession with our golf swings ruling our wallets rather than our heads.

  2. Chris my question is why would some people give it a thumbs down? Is there something that they are missing in this tip or are the just used to playing with the toe up.

  3. I got one of these about 4 years back and go to it when I "loose my swing" It's amazing what it does and is so key for me and good golf! LOVE IT!!! Spot on again Sir!

  4. I used the hanger for one session to fix this very issue. It helped me shallow out my swing and improved my ball flight and ball striking. It’s a great training aid.

  5. I understand the concept behind The Hanger but Is it easy to put The hanger on correctly or could I put it on wrong & groove a bad wrist motion? Thank you. I enjoy your videos.

  6. If someone is a natural 'drawer' of the ball (like me), that training aide isn't really of much use is it? It seems like it would be only REALLY helpful for slicers.

  7. First, if you're thinking about getting this, do it before end of the 11th at midnight (I think PST?). Its marked down from 99.99 to 69.99. Then you can stack the code Chris gives and it ends up being $59.50 USD. EDIT- just puchased.

Second – Chris, one of your previous videos helped me identify I was doing this on my bad shots. I believe you have mentioned I needed to feel the right hand knuckles pushing towards the right arm. What this does is closes down/keeps the club face square at the top of the backswing. So one of my drills is to feel that at the top of the backswing. But I'm still going to buy this because its quicker feedback and I can go to the range or in my net and hit balls more quickly, creating more repetitions.

Getting that wrist set at the top of the backswing was far more critical than I ever realized, even as a 9 handicap.

  8. Instead of manipulating your wrists in the backswing, can you start with that wrist position at the address?

  9. I have recently purchased the Hanger, but through two separate sessions I seem to only be able to top the ball.
Like you mentioned Chris, I get the arc of the Hanger against my left forearm early. But on a full backswing I can almost sense something is not right. And of course proceed to top the ball and it pops off the ground shooting to the left.
I have rotated the Hanger around the grip several degrees attempting to get the club face squared up. Just not having good luck.
    I don't know…just my experience so far.
The chip shots you hit were awesome and I have never been able to do that.

  10. Last week I started to feel like in my backswing that my wrists bow at the top and once that locks in I start my downswing and feel like I swing left hard, The difference in control of the low point and strike and consistency is beyond belief. Especially with my wedges, it's amazing. I didn't use a training aid but I can only imagine the one you're using here has great benefits

  11. Ordered one of these today and tried attaching it to a club and doing a few practice backswings in the house.
Is it normal for the club's actual club face to need to be closed relative to the hanger's plastic club face? If they're lined up, then my wrist still looks slightly cupped at the top, even though the hanger is touching my forearm. (This is on a sand wedge if it matters, as I tried a short club in order to not take a divot out of the ceiling.)
Also interesting to note that the hanger actually prevents bowing of the wrist somewhat. Is this a good thing, i.e. is bowing of the wrist ever a problem? i.e. if in the absence of the hanger, the takeaway 'feel' is simply to bow the left wrist as much as possible, is that a bad thing, or is it necessary to be just right i.e. neither cupped nor bowed.

  12. Hi Chris
Where do we find the remaining videos in the series.
I used The Hanger for practice all of last season , great results.

  13. Ahhhh! Don’t need the device but this has been my problem for years. Slice fixed in one video. Thank you! “Stronger grip” made this worse for me too.

  14. Do you have links to the videos for the four part series? I'm trying to create a playlist for theHANGER.
