Sahith Theegala just delivered one of the wildest turnarounds of the PGA TOUR season:
76 → 65. An 11-shot swing. Cut sweat. Nerves. Survival. Explosion.

In this must-watch press conference, Theegala explains:

⚡ How a round that “felt the same” turned into a 65 thanks to smarter shot selection and letting the wind work with him.
🎯 Why he never lost confidence despite a disastrous opening day.
🔥 The “cut-line nerves” that made him hit his worst drive in months on 17.
🙏 The pride he feels every time he tees it up on the PGA TOUR — and why he treats every event like a major.
💔 His emotional reaction to Rafa Cabrera Bello missing the cut right beside him.
🚀 Why being 10 shots back doesn’t scare him: “There are eagles out here… and big numbers too.”

If you love comeback stories, raw honesty, and the pure emotion of making (or missing) the cut… this is Sahith at his realest.

first round 65 second round it’s an 11 shot swing uh what was different how do you compare those two rounds yeah um it didn’t I know golfers always say crazy things it didn’t feel too different just today I hit a lot of good putts and most of them went in yesterday none of them went in and we’re just talking about it right now a lot of it was shot selection um just it was so windy yesterday that I think I was trying too hard to fight the wind a lot and you just can’t do that so it’s a good reminder uh today. So, I did a lot less fighting the win today and sure enough, it was it was a lot better. But, yeah, super pumped about how I played today and just to get myself more golf on the weekend. Um, there’s nothing like a cut sweat. It’s it’s a different kind of nerves for sure. So, um yeah, just really excited. I have two more days. How How do you stay motivated after a round like yesterday to come out and do that today? Yeah. Yeah. I think you know sometimes it’s it’s almost easier when you’re so far away from the tournament. I kind of played myself out of the tournament the first day. Um, so I I guess I shouldn’t say that. Um, but it felt like I played myself out of tournament and and it was so far beyond even what the cut line I thought the cut was going to be even or one under and I think it’s going to be one of those two. So, um, figured I just need to come out and and be pretty aggressive. But I felt confident. I I I don’t know why sometimes, you know, you play good golf or bad golf or whatever it is and you’re not confident. But I I had a bad day yesterday and I still had the confidence in my golf game and um again just really pleased that it kept like all the all the work that I’ve put in and um you know all the the reps of the last last month or so are coming into fruition and and able to score the ball a little bit better which uh was a big key for me this week. Just just try and get out here and and try and score the ball. Don’t worry about swing. Don’t worry about the other stuff. You’re all exempt for next year. I mean some people would say you come here it doesn’t really matter if you make the cut but there’s a lot of pride always in a lot of a lot of players so how you know what does it feel like the nerves what are they like when you’re like you said sweating the cut line coming in yeah I honestly my driver’s been awesome and and on 17 I hit probably the worst swing I’ve made in a long time last couple months and and it was because of nerves um it was definitely because of nerves and u you know I I felt good over the t-shot I just didn’t make a good swing and And again, it was definitely felt the nerves coming in. I mean, I I again, it I said it earlier in the week, but every PJ tour event that I teed up in is is such a blessing and and honestly an honor and and I never want to take that for granted. So, the mindset I have out there is honestly pretty similar to what what it is in a major signature event. I still want to play the best golf possible. And obviously you try and peak for those events, but every single PJ tour event, every single golf tournament that I’ve always played, it’s I guess it’s just something that my dad instilled in me and the competitor in me, I I don’t want to give up a single shot at all. So, um, definitely a lot of pride. But, um, yeah, just it means the world to make another cut and and play the weekend and just looking for some good momentum for next year. And you played with Rafa who was in a similar situation coming down the stretch. Same score yesterday and then, you know, unfortunately just missed by, you know, the other side of the coin. I mean, what’s that like? You’ve experienced that. Every player experiences it. How do you manage that? And what does that feel like? Yeah, it’s uh it might be the worst feeling in golf. Um it it’s crazy. It’s it’s it’s different than even like being in contention in tournament and and coming up a little bit short because you know you’re playing great and you know, you still finished whatever you finished near the top of the leaderboard and you put yourself in that position. But when you’re fighting to make the cut, um you’re fighting yourself too. You’re grinding. you don’t have necessarily your necessarily your best stuff and again it’s golf is such a momentum sport and you know you never know what two extra rounds on the weekend could do for the rest of the year and and you know I definitely feel for Rafa especially being the P defending champ and um you know he’s exempt for next year too but I think he’s just looking for some momentum and and it’s a bummer it really is a bummer it’s things really bad and I could see the emotion even you know outside scoring with Rafa but he’s he’s a great dude I have no I have no doubts he’s going to bounce back. This this is probably my second time playing with him in tournament and he’s got a lot of game for a for the for a veteran old guy. So he I have no doubt he’s going to have a probably a strong finish next week and and a really good year next year. But yeah, there’s there’s no sugar coating it. This this sucks. And just finally you’re 10 back going into the weekend. It’s doable. It’s been done before, but how do you feel about the chance? Yeah. Yeah. I think um again it’s one of those situations where you’re you’re so far back that you you kind of have a different mindset about it and you know you need to be aggressive to put yourself back into the tournament and it’s it’s windy out there. It’s you know do you think this course kind of lends itself to maybe that Yeah, I think uh it’s definitely been done before. Um big comebacks out here um just because you never know when the wind could switch a little bit or wind get gusty. So you could play a stretch of holes with with not a lot of wind and then all of a sudden you get a ton of wind and and the scoring could shift a lot and it honestly depends which side you tee off on too. So I know with it being split te’s on the weekend uh you’re never out of it and uh there’s a lot of eagle holes, there’s a lot of high number holes so it’s a very exciting event and yeah I’m going to try and make some of those eagles this weekend. Thanks. Thanks Mark. Thanks. Thanks.
