ABOUT ME
I’m Andrew Jensen, a former full time touring professional that played on PGA TOUR Canada, Latinoamerica and almost every North American based mini tour from 2008-2020. I want to use my playing experience to inspire golfers to improve their own game and have more fun with this amazing game we play!
So, is this the longest golf ball that you can legally play here in North America? The brand new Srixon Qstar Ulta to be really long. So long that it was illegal in Japan some years ago, but it’s legal here. They’ve refined it and they brought it to the US market. And I want to test this out. Just how far is this golf ball? Who is it for? And for 30 bucks, can it be beat for the value distance equation? $29.99 a dozen. That’s a remarkable price. And for what Stricks is claiming something that is so long and so straight, it seems very very enticing. And for me, it’s not it’s not aimed at me. We know this. It’s not aimed for maybe higher swing speeds, better players. It’s aimed at the mid to high handicappers, the kind of slower to to mid swing speeds that want to experience longer flight and straighter flight. Figured the only way to really test this sight unseen, no numbers, no nothing, is go to the golf course, play some holes with it, and let’s see if it goes further. I’ve got 150 here on the 14th hole, a little downwind. So that would be with this much wind, probably just a smooth pitching wedge cuz it would probably keep me just short of that middle pin. So let’s see what happens with this pitching wedge from about 150 downwind. definitely went higher. Okay, let’s go see. So, I said typically I would have expected that thing to land probably just short of pin high or pin high with that wind, but that ball launched higher. Definitely flew a little bit further. So, now I’ve got uh a little test on how this thing feels off the putter because this is legit the first time I’ve hit it, putted with it, done anything with it. That felt really soft off the face. It’s a little shaggy. You got to hit that thing a little bit harder, but that felt soft off the face. Okay. Soft off the face, that’s for sure. We’re going to do all the launch monitor stuff inside. I promise we’re going to get the numbers and the data. I didn’t want to do that out here. I just wanted to react to it and play with it and see how it feels, how it flies outside without being swayed or skewed by numbers. Wow, that was pretty strong. Based on that wedge, I thought it was going to go like that. That thing was pumped. I mean, I did pull it. We had a little bit of breeze helping off the left down a little down slope, but I mean, that thing went really, really far. 42 yards, though. So, this is this is the ultimate fuel shot. I don’t think it’s going to fly any further. Not taking that into consideration. But can I kind of get some some stop on this or not? Definitely flew it three yards too far and it chased to the bat. See how this feels off the putter face. It feels really soft off the putter face. Softer than I like, but I think it still feels good. So, I’m not going to try any funny business here and take a more aggressive line because I think the golf ball goes further. Going to play this the same as I would. Got a little bit of wind this way. Touch of hurt. So, that was a little thin. Wasn’t my best strike, but I still think it uh Man, that was okay for a bad one. 211 to the flag again. A little bit of wind this way. That would be basically five iron. I’m about 200 to that bunker, which would be almost a sixiron. So, I’m not going to go for the flag. I’m going to hit sixiron at that bunker. And we’re going to see where this ends up. I bend the crap out of it. Oh my gosh, that carried the bunker. That carried the bunker. I’ve got a seven iron now. Roughly 200 to the bunker. I just thinned a sixiron over the bunker. Like I’m going to hit this at the middle of the green. Let’s see what happened because seven iron from 211 I would never I would never hit. I hit that well and went high like we experienced with the wedge. That flew right in front of the bunker like right probably that flew pretty close to 200 yards. Wow. Interesting. Interesting stuff. There’s the sixiron back there. It flew just over the bunker and kind of chased but it went past the 211. Um, so we’ll hit some chip shots from here and see how this uh this ball reacts with that kind of pitch you want to hit close. They’re soft to the putt touch, but that felt a little firmer. Little firmer on the pitch. That went a little bit harder. Nipped it more. would have expected a bit more spin, but this isn’t, I don’t think, a ball that’s gonna really nip around the greens like a premium premium tour player ball. But that felt good. That felt I mean, it’s a $30 golf ball. Felt pretty decent. What’s interesting though is like you do this. That’s the three-piece. It’s a little firmer where that speed comes from, but the the cover is soft and it I mean it feels pretty durable. I’m going to hit one from right down there. See how how soft we can make it land. Hit it pretty hard. Landed relatively soft. I thought I It feels a little firmer off the face, but I mean that’s pretty good around the greens. That was interesting. That was cool. It goes further out there. Four, five holes, random shots. It definitely goes further. Flew really high. the launch characteristics. Again, we we’ve reiterated it’s not for me, but that’s okay. This is for a particular golfer. And for $30 a dozen, that particular mid to high handicap golfer, even mid to low handicap that would want some more distance, wow, 30 bucks for that. That’s incredible. The feel was fine. It’s a distance ball. It’s not going to feel, you know, like a Proby one, like a premium stricks onour ball or the TB5X that I play. It’s not going to feel like that around the greens, but off the club face, it felt fine. The chips and pitches definitely felt firmer. It’s a distance ball. It didn’t feel as as rocky as I thought it would. I thought it would maybe feel like a pinnacle or a really old range ball. It didn’t feel like that around the greens off the putter face. Definitely soft. That was interesting. I feel like you would expect such a hard golf ball to feel more more hard off putter, but it felt really soft. Great alignment on it. Just it was just a cool ball to go out and play with. and experience obviously different flight, different launch characteristics, but it flew really straight because it’s it’s cutting spin, sid spin, and backspin. But now it was time to get out in here and hit some shots, kind of a few clubs in the bag, see the numbers, and see how it stacks up against my gamer, the TP5X. So, pulling these numbers, I wanted to test these four clubs and pull averages at the same club head speed. Not worried about distance. I’m not concerned about spin. I just tried to get an average with each ball at the same club head speed. So with the sand wedge, there was eight shots with 85 miles of club head speed. So it took me a little bit longer. Probably took me six 15 16 17 swings to kind of get the same club head speed. Surprisingly about the same in spin. Roughly the same in launch. Like when I’m hitting these, the launch is a little bit high off the mat. I did notice though it was relatively consistent. Trying to get that club head speed can be a bit of a challenge, but I wasn’t experiencing ones that went like 120 cuz the spin is down or ones that only went 100 cuz the spin is down and fell out of the sky. Pretty consistent. The apex is higher, which is what we experience on the golf course. I was surprised and somewhat impressed. Obviously, the feel off the face is firmer. So, with the Sand Wag, I like a more responsive feel. The feel wasn’t as responsive. So, if I hit it, I didn’t have a good guess of of what it flew. Whereas, when I hit mine, I kind of have a good idea of how it flew, how it spun. Definitely didn’t have that with the speed. Going into eight iron, 90 m hour. And I think again, I pulled five here. Oh, six. Six shots for an average. So, probably took me 10, 11, 12 cuz I wanted to just get the right club head speed. And now we start to see a little bit of an increase in distance, but we see a little drop of spit. And that’s kind of why this ball will go further. Spins less, spins less side to side. The apex was actually lower, which I would expect because if the spin is down, especially in the middle of the bag, it should fly a little bit lower. The wedges I think will fly a lot higher. It’s kind of what we saw. The launch was about the same. Pretty similar, just a couple yards further in the air, mainly due to a wee bit less spin, but like the ball speed is the same. So for me, we see a couple yards more in the air. Then we we if we take that club head speed down, someone that maybe swings an 8 iron at 80 mph, I feel like they would probably experience 3, four, five, six yards, not two 1, two, three. Then we go into four iron, and this was 98 mph. Again, I hit shots. I’m trying to figure out like what is the most consistent club head speed for me. 98 mph. We see six more yards in the air in that long iron. 300 less RPM of spin. A little bit higher launch, apex higher. It’s kind of what a distance ball should do. Launch a little bit higher at the top of the bag and the lower the bag, maybe a little lower in the middle of the bag, but the spin will come down. Like the higher launch and the lower lofted clubs combats the the lower spin ball speed a mile more. Like it is a longer ball. It’s a distance ball. And claims that you read were proving them. And for someone who it’s not even meant for, like my golf spy did a great test on it and they said even some high club head speed people saw some distance gains and I’m one of those definitely seen some distance gains. And we go into driver four drives 116 m hour. This was a little more of a challenge trying to get cuz it’s very easy to have your club head speed with driver vary and then when you think you’re swinging faster, you’re actually swinging slower. When you think you’re swinging slower, you’re actually swinging faster. So, it actually took me a lot more to get it with my TP5X, but again, like three yards in the air with driver, a little bit less spin. The launch is about the same. The apex is actually a little bit lower. Like, it’s a solid golf ball. It goes further. The claims are true. It goes further. It’s durable. The feel is fine, but if you’re not someone who knows tour ball feel, it doesn’t really matter. It’s further. It doesn’t spin considerably scary low tighter. Like this golf ball can make golf a lot more fun for a lot of people that are buying refurbished golf balls or still playing Kirkland’s or thinking they need a T a Prov1 or something like that. Wow. A $30 distance ball that doesn’t feel like a pinnacle that’s okay around the greens. Nice off the putter face. Really cool golf ball. Really well done stricks on. So yeah, check it out. $30 for this longer golf ball. It’s true. It goes longer. We’ll see you in the next video.

So it does the same thing as a warbird but feels a lot softer. Does it come in the divide pattern?
I picked a dozen up for a scramble let’s just say before the alcohol kicked in too much we kept using my drives when using this ball long and straight was exactly what it did but yeah struggled with going longer than expected with irons and wedges
The question with all those long balls is how do I stop them on the green? I have to kneel and say a prayer while the ball is midair playing the velocity from Titleist to have a shot. Unless the green slopes back to front I have no chance.
A three piece ball like the bridgestone E12 is really good on speed and spin and is about 30$ also.
I played with these balls today and they were very impressive! They are long and hold the green!
I am a 3 hdcp and play the srixon soft feel. I am 61 and hit my driver around 240 yds. Soft feel gas been my ball for years even when I was hitting the ball 20 to 30 yds further. Tour balls are a disadvantage to most players. Great video.
It looks like Srixon replaced the regular Q-Star with this ball. I was going to compare the two on the Srixon site as I knew both had the ionomer cover, but the regular Q-Star doesn’t exist.
I’m just learning to shape shots and want something to hold the greens in the short game. So I’m not quite at the level of a performance ball, but liking the mid-range balls that have a urethane cover (Q-Star Tour, TM Tour Response, Bridgestone Tour B RXS). Does Titleist have one with a urethane cover?
I'll stick with Kirkland. There's nothing wrong with the way Kirkland balls are made, they just vary between high 80's and low 100's compression, and the packaging doesn't disclose that information.
Not available in the UK unfortunately
I love the quality of the paint on this ball. Takes a lot of abuse but still looks new after three rounds
I just switched to the Q Star about two months ago because I really liked them. Now I am starting over, we shall see.
Imo the Wilson triad best for UNDER $30 plus search YouTube a TON of top golfers like Rick, James, etc all agreed & raved. I swing fast at 113-116 driver 105 7w & 93 7i yet they fly FARfeel amazing & my wedge game best it's ever been super super great ball. I used to play TP5x, Prov1x & CW Chrome Tour but I still always go back to Triad for feel! Plus 1/2 the price
Funny enough our local golf shop had these on sale on a Father’s Day deal buy one get one free. So I bought a dozen. Just judging by what it said on the back of the package for my needs. It’s turned out fantastic and now I see this video… I’m glad I made the decisionand it turned out perfect. They are a great ball for the price
Sorry that didn’t work out right… I bought eight dozen. And only paid for four as it was buy 1 box of 12 balls get another box free. There!
Had this on the course for the first time last week. There is a 320 yd par 4 that I have never driven even with what felt like pured drives. I could not see anyone on the green (dogleg right), but figured I would get it there anyway. Smooth swing, middle face. Just. Kept. Going. High and rising flight. Long story short, over the gram and came with some looks from the guy who did happen to be on the green putting. Said sorry and gave him a new ball. I agree with you—this ball is legit.
Great review!!
I just bought a dozen for a weekend golf trip.I hope they work for me.
Honestly, for the majority of golfers, as long as it has JUST ENOUGH spin, this is the type of ball they should use for score. The problem is that this seems to have that same spin problem as most ionomer. The company that figures that problem out……there’s money to be made.
This ball is incredible off the tee and great into the wind but it is so so terrible for greenside spin. I have landed it on the fringe and it has rolled out so much longer than you would ever expect. You may be able to get away if your landing area is uphill but if it is downhill you are toast. Gave the rest of my box away after giving it a long try, large sample size and moving over to the Zstar
I'm 30 yards longer with this ball .I love this ball
Just played these yesterday because I received a "free" box for being a member of InsideGolf/Fairway Jockey. I was a fan of both the Q Star and Snell 3.0, but I think these are going to be my go-to from now on. Noticed everything about the Ultispeed that Andrew mentions, and I like all of those characteristics. I have about a 90ish mph driver club head speed.
I've been playing these for a month. Performance is very good. It doesn't spin as much as others but it is still plenty. The problem is the durability is not good. I noticed scuff and marks halfway through the round. At $30 a dozen, it may be worth it to use a new ball every other round.
