Today I play Phoenix Gold Bangkok: a long, undulating course with thick Bermuda roughs, solid practice facilities and — yes — some of the cutest, most outgoing pretty caddies you’ll find in Bangkok. If you’re planning a golfing trip from downtown Bangkok, wondering whether Phoenix Gold is worth the drive, or curious how dual-pricing and caddy booking work in Thailand — this video covers it all.

What you’ll get from this video: a honest course review, clubhouse + practice facility tour, caddy interview, price breakdown and my final verdict. I also show real on-course shots so you can judge the difficulty, fairway width, green condition, and how the Bermuda rough will punish you if your tee shot strays.

Why watch: Phoenix Gold plays long (up to ~7,200 yds from the tips), has protected undulating greens, deep bunkers and wide fairways — making it forgiving visually but demanding on approach shots. Great for players who like a fair but challenging test without losing half the ball bag. Foreigner-friendly staff, but note the dual pricing (weekend vs resident/visitor). Caddy booking tip: use the Golfland app to reserve the caddy that fits your style.

Welcome to the 52nd episode of me playing all the golf courses here in Bangkok. Today we are at the Phoenix Gold Bangkok golf course and it’s going to be a hot morning here. So tag along. Let’s go and check out how Phoenix Gold plays. But as usual, let’s jump to the clubhouse and check out the facilities before heading on to the first tea here. 58 ces and make a sea of angels not giving up until I Phoenix Golf Golf Bangkok has seen a lot of changes since its opening back in 1993. It was initially opened as president country club later changed to sumaboom golf and country club and now it is known as phoenix gold golf Bangkok. Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and he has designed few more courses here in Thailand including Santi Buri at Kosamui and Navatani here in Bangkok. Phoenix Golf Gold called Bangkok is one of the courses that is situated further away from downtown of Bangkok, but it is oddly still inside the city limits unlike few courses way closer to the downtown. So join me as we go and check out whether it’s worth the drive and expect for a Gaddy interview later in the video as well. The locker rooms have been renovated two years ago if I’m not mistaken and that is when the new owner Kungania took over this course. The locker rooms here at Phoenix Gold Golf Bangkok, what a mouthful are great example how you can retain and respect the original 1990s clubhouse and feel. I like their design choice of not modernizing the locker rooms too much. You can utilize the old features and just make them fresh and nice looking and little bit more modern than the original ones were. The locker rooms are a little bit dimmer than average locker room would be, but I don’t mind it. It kind of fits this style and I was happy to have my shower here. One small complaint though, the water pressure wasn’t the greatest in the showers. And both of the channels viewers I was playing on this day with found the salon type of doors you enter through to get to the showers little bit odd and strange, but I didn’t mind them to be honest. Just like the locker rooms, the restaurant respects the 1990s clubhouse feel and style, although it has been modernized and it looks quite fresh, at least to my eye. On top of the extensive twofloor indoor seating area overlooking the beautiful golf course, they do offer small patio for outdoor seating as well. The food was delicious and I finished off my fried rice breakfast rather quick, but bear in mind that this is not the cheapest of clubhouse restaurants around. Last time when I visited the course, the pro shop was still rather empty, but now it’s fully stocked and I really like the feel and look of the pro shop. They have extensive stock of items for you to purchase and especially the ball selections are wide here. The staffs were also extremely lovely. On top of the clubhouse facilities we briefly checked out, they do have an extensive practice area here, including a driving range with nice real grass hitting areas, chipping area with bunkers, and multiple potting areas as well. So, you get to warm up decently before you’re round. Small complaint though, the turf, the real grass hitting area isn’t maybe the best of qualities and I felt more like hitting bunker shots than shots from a nice crisp fairway. And then it’s time to head to the course and start the round. I had the privilege of playing with two of you dear viewers on this day. Mr. Robert, San Diego resident, visiting Bangkok and Thailand for some golf and then Mr. Nick as well, a Australian living here in Bangkok. Thank you for following the journey and playing a round of golf with me. And as for the rest of you, please do subscribe to the channel and leave a like to this video and share this content with your friends if you find it useful. That would be super helpful for the channel. Phoenix Gold Golf Bangkok has said what a mouthful. Maybe I just refer to the course as by course from now on. So the course is a little bit similar to Bangpakong Riverside and Royal Lakeside golf courses. They are just the type that I love the most. Wide fairways. The punishing roughs though make it less easy than you would think at first glance, but not the most difficult courses, at least for higher handicap players like me. Surprisingly, the course plays quite long. It’s 7,200 yards from the blue TE’s and the white TE’s we played on this day were 6,600 yards. It’s maybe two 300 yards more than I would feel comfortable playing if I was playing by myself. The yellow TE’s with 6,200 y would have been my personal choice. But I think it’s not the length of this course that makes it challenging. It’s not the water either. The water doesn’t come in play on most holes. It’s the really thick and spiky Bermuda roughs they have here. So, if you’re not on the fairway with your T-shot, you won’t be going two on or three on unless your club head speed is price and desole levels. The fairways are in top notchotch condition and greens are tough undulating and always protected by multiple little bit deeper bunkers. So, it is a challenging course even though it doesn’t look like one. We are here at the prince of high season and I feel that they should have done the green maintenance and cing a little bit earlier during the low season. It looked like they had been sanded just week or two ago. So we weren’t enjoying the greens as much as you probably will if you come and play here a little bit later. Overall it’s a enjoyable yet challenging course. It will punish you if you don’t stay on the fairway, but you won’t be losing all your balls if you come and play here. Then to the prices and unfortunately this is yet another dual pricing course. I paid 2,500 B for green fee caddy and cart and that is a sports day promotion on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I guess you also get to play for 2500 if you start your round week days after 100 p.m. And if you’re not Thai citizen or resident here in Thailand, you will be paying roughly 500 but more than I paid on this day. The 2500 B I paid I think is decent value for this course. It’s further away and there are courses closer to downtown of Bangkok for similar price or even little bit less but they might not be similar quality. So it is decent offering for 2 and a half thousand but would I drive here and pay 3,000 or bit over 3,000? I’m not sure I would. That brings us to the foreigner friendliness of this course. And I have to say it is heartwarming to see everybody smiling and being so friendly here. And unfortunately they have the unfair dual pricing policies in place. So I cannot give them full score when it comes to foreigner friendliness. But I said you will manage yourself here speaking only English and everyone here is super lovely. Caddy interview. Caddy interview. Hello. Caddy interview. What’s your name? Bale. Bale. Yes. Hello. Belle. And how old are you? 28. 28. I want to be 28 also. And how how long you work as a caddy? M two years. Two years. Okay. I think you’ve been really good today. So I think you work longer than two years. And what is the biggest tip you ever get? Secret. Secret. Okay. You don’t tell us. Let’s keep it as a secret. I guess it’s so big. So you don’t want to say and and do you play golf? A little bit. Little bit. Same like me like 120. No, just like me. Okay. Thank you so much. You can find you can find Miss Belle from Phoenix Gold Bangok Golf Club and you can book her. Her number is 405. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Regarding the caddy situation, do I even have to say anything more after the caddy interview? If you are looking for the cutest and most fun and outgoing caddies here in Bangkok, you need to head out to the night golf courses. That’s where you find the most outgoing fun and cutest caddies. But I have to say this course offers one of the best pretty caddy selection you can find around Bangkok. And they don’t even have night golf here. On top of my caddy, Miss Belle being the cutest ever, she was also super fun to be with. And so were all our caddies. We had two pretty caddies pre- booked which cost 400 B more than normal caddies and you need to pre-book them. They won’t be there at the course waiting for you unless you have pre- booked day before your caddy. Then you have the normal caddies which I’ve always used here before and there’s nothing wrong with that selection either. So there’s plenty of good options for you depending on what you’re looking for and 100% all the caddies here will be professional and great companions on the course. If you want to have Caddy like Vel on your next round of golf here in Thailand, make sure to check out Golfland application. Golfland application lets you pre-book caddies on most Thailand golf courses. And before you pull the trigger and pick your caddy, you get to see the caddy’s pictures, vital information like age, weight, and height together with other players reviews, deep requirements, and even language proficiencies. So after watching this video, run off to farangolf.com to check out the golf application and start browsing for your dream caddy here in Thailand. Before we wrap this review up, I want to briefly remind you of the upcoming farangul social scramble on the 21st of February at Pakong Riverside. The entrance fee of 3,600 BT will get you the round of golf in good company including green fe and cart. On top of that, there will be free flow drinks during and after the round together with a dinner. And if that wasn’t enough, we have great prices to compete for. On top of that, so run off to farangolf.com to register to the competition after you finish watching this video. Also, huge thanks to the sponsors of the event, Bangkok Vodka, Golf and Application, but their golf rentals and Control Union Thailand. And if you cannot make it to the competition, but you are coming to Thailand for some golfing holidays and need help with your golf itinerary, go to forangolf.com to reach out to me. I’ll help you out. Whether it’s booking tea times, transportations, or accommodation, I’m your guide. So go to forang.com to reach out to me. Then we are at my least favorite part of the video. Summarizing the experience up, I have no issues with that. But giving a score to a golf course is always super difficult task, especially courses at this price range. Bangkok is scattered with golf courses charging you two to 3,000 B for a round of golf including green fee, caddy and card. So it is really difficult and unpleasant task to try to put them in the right order and it’s always subjective opinion of course. But Phoenix Gall of Bangkok being situated a little bit further away from downtown makes it a course I don’t visit too often. You got Royal Lakeside, you got Pangpakong Riverside, you got Kundita, you got multiple budget golf courses closer to the downtown of Bangkok. And for that reason, I don’t come here too often. Yes, they do have great pretty carry experience and the normal caddies are decent as well. The course is to my liking. It’s easy and long course and you don’t lose all your balls if you come and play here. But still, I think it’s the distance that is keeping me away from this course. And for that reason, it’s already 16th course receiving 80 or 81 points. Solid 8 solid course. It’s further from the downtown and for that reason I won’t be coming here too often. This would be point when I normally tell you what’s coming in the next video, but this time I won’t be able to tell you. I’m not 100% sure what video is coming out, but one thing is for sure. I’ve been publishing two videos per week now when I’ve been making this Bangkok series. And now that we have only couple courses left, I will start publishing the videos once a week on Saturdays 9:00 a.m. Thai time. So, I’ll be scaling the speed down a little bit. It’s been tough six months and I concentrate on offering you better quality videos but only once a week. So subscribe to the channel to see what’s coming next and leave a like to this one if you found it useful and share this video with your friend. That would be awesome and help the channel grow. Thanks for watching and see you in the next
